There were lots of jump scares between the live actors and the props! You can tell a lot of work was put into creating a very creepy and eerie experience and it was very well done and thought out. FYI, plan accordingly and bring rain jackets and umbrellas if you go, as a majority of the lines are not covered. Their website states all areas are covered which is inaccurate and we got completely soaked. Marked down 1 star for uncovered waiting areas.

This temporary pop-up show is by the south waterfront (in the big white tent - you can't miss it). It includes live musicians/vocalist (I don't think she sings words though), lots of live horses, fantastic acrobatics, and showmanship of the people on top of the horses. I do have to say that everything is quite spendy... from the tickets themselves (and fees) to the drinks and food. Certainly considered to be a 'treat' night out if you have extra $$ to burn. The show was a bit over 2 hours with a 30minute intermission where you could go buy a bunch of Cavalia themed merchandise (tons to choose from!) Overall, the strength of the horses and the people were phenomenal. You could tell that they practiced for hours and train seriously to put on a quality show. Highly entertaining and if you can, worth the splurge!

The food was really top notch - I typically shy away from buffet food because the quality seems to be seriously lacking - not the case here. The food was fresh, hot, very tasty and several options to choose from. The "pre-show / intermission" lounge is very comfortable - a nice option compared to the seating inside the arena. The show itself - amazing - trick riding that would impress anyone. One of the biggest surprises was the different scenes with horses without bridles or saddles - performing with human "partners" in choreographed settings that was nothing short of amazing. They have no mares here - only stallions and geldings. I was surprised at how smoothly things went. They go out of their way to point out that the humans spend a lot of time with their four legged partners and when the horse isn't feeling a particular part of the program, the humans "go with it". I saw one horse who wasn't feeling one of the events and his partner followed him out of the central part of the arena and gave him time and space until he was ready to rejoin the herd, so to speak. I really appreciate that kind of sensitivity. Getting to go into the stables after the show is another perk of the VIP pass, something that was a real treat all on it's own. This was nothing like a circus- and that's good - my wife is no fan of circuses. I recommend it.

Great Event At A New Venue in Portland…read more SITREP Last year when I was passing through Portland this same time of season, I enjoyed the event ShadowPlay at the venue known as The Fez. Unfortunately, that venue shut down in the last year. THE SETUP @ NEW VENUE However, DJ Carrion has found a new home for ShadowPlay in the very eclectic venue The LoveCraft Bar ("LoveCraft"located on SE Grand Avenue in Portland's Eastside. I was meeting my awesome friends Marvin W. and Michelle B. - recent transplants from Sacramento to Portland - who already had an intimate knowledge of the music & dance scenes that we all love up & down the West Coast, from San Diego to the Bay Area and up through Seattle. THE VIBE Though much much smaller than The Fez was as a dance venue, LoveCraft has an immediate eccentric charm with it's physical layout, wall decor & accessorization that matches quite well the dark wave vibe that ShadowPlay sets out to establish. The attention is immediately drawn to the large open area (as you first walk in) that served first as the concert stage for the two (2) music acts - that started the night off at 9pm as soon as we arrived, and performed until 10:15pm - and then graciously tranformed into the main dance floor through the rest of the night. THE MUSIC The format focuses on such stalwart anthems ranging from VNV Nation, Covenant, StromKern, to some truly noteworthy German Industrial bands like Das Ich, and others I can't name at the moment. But whether you want to swirl or stomp on the dance floor, there was always seemed to be a song in the queue you would dance to with a couple of songs or so. THE BAR Our lovely bartendress made the best mixed drinks, had the most reasonable canned domestic beers available, and the most pleasant smile & demeanor to share with all her patrons. I like that their shows seem to explore a bit of the dark and the light - it feels right. I also love the way that they use the space very creatively. As an ADA person, it means a lot that I have easy to get in an out of seating. Even just easy in and out of the building! And the staff there have always been so kind and welcoming.

The program specifically encouraged attendants to arrive an hour early to enjoy drinks. Staff was incredibly awkward and passive-aggressive. I don't know where they expected people to congregate, there was hardly any room at all in the lobby, and the show is completely sold out. I left before I had a panic attack, and came back about 10 minutes before the show to find a seat, in a completely crowded and full theater, great good for them! The show itself was brilliant. But I had to endure 10 adjacent giggling wiggling man-children kicking my seat and causing the whole row to shake. Again, they're not the venue's fault, but when a show is full to capacity like this, the seats being latched together will really try your patience. I did see a woman in front of me stand up and look all around to see if she could find another empty seat, before asking the man next to her to stop leaning on her. Kudos. If I could offer any suggestions, the venue should have at least some signage telling guests where they can and cannot go in the building if the staff will not open their mouths even once. Also, if you're going to ask people to come early for drinks, don't put them in a secret cooler somewhere, have an actual bar set up. In the room where people are allowed to be. Atmosphere: 2/10

I saw 2 of their shows back to back: a PG13 show and then an adults-only show…read more The PG13 was ok, truly, if you have early teenage kids it's a great thing to take them to. As an adult I was left feeling like, "They are alright for amateurs." I wasn't really engaged in the show for younger audiences, perhaps because I'm not one of them. it wasn't bad, it just didn't grab me. My guy liked it well enough, he was surprised I was blasé about that show. But I gave the 5 stars didn't I? Yes. That's because of the adults-only show. I laughed so hard for 2 hours that I cried repeatedly, I almost wet my pants at one point and my cheeks were still sore the next afternoon. My guy laughed just as hard as I did. And it never stopped. Never. It's been a few days now and we are still talking it over and laughing at it. Seriously, best amateur improv for adults I have ever seen, and I have seen a fair few in my travels.

Loved to see how everyone acted and showed emotions. Drawbacks: The people on our table were a little shy (on their 2nd/3rd date) and weren't participating as much so that was a drawback for us. Food was so/so but again we were there for the experience and not the food and that is where I took away a star. They were a little loose with the directions with what to do with money or who should respond how. Now we are looking forward to next time because we know what to do. They took mugshots in the beginning and during the event and promised to send us the link to the pictures via email. We never got them :( take your own pictures! Tips: Its all about the guests! The only down fall was the lack of all the clues, as well as short amount of time to solve the mystery. After the killer was revelaed and the reason why it was evident that the evidence we would have needed to come to that solution was in the killer's hand most the night. We are definitly going to go again once there is a new "show".
