Can't believe I've been going here for 7 years but the experience is worth coming back for again and again. My haircut is always quality and just how I ask for it. Brandon is my barber but having watched thr others work over the years, I wouldn't hesitate to go to or recommend any of them. Always hospitable and good value for what you choose for your cut. I recommend the hot towel treatment, but you can get by with only a haircut if you don't have a need for a shave. Great atmosphere with TVs on the wall and a great selection of music always playing on the overhead speaker. When I said no, I was told they don't do walk-ins and the person turned around and continued cutting without offering any information on how to book or even a greeting. Was in town for a week and desperately needed a haircut. If you go to their site you find that they only book through the site. If you TRY to book, you discover that they are more than a month out. Since I was only here for a week, I tried to call to see if I could come in if there was a cancelation. I was basically told, "Can't you read the website...who do you think you are..." etc. I think I'm someone that travels from town to town, and have never had a problem booking a haircut. Can't see myself getting a haircut anywhere else. I've been coming here for a little over a year now, and not once have I left with an unsatisfied cut. It's located in the East Village; so after getting your haircut, you can flaunt it while shopping or getting a drink in the area. Service is second to none. Since coming here, Brandon has been my barber. For good reason, too. He is definitely a master of his craft and is very personable and outgoing. Remembers my style every time I come in. Relaxed atmosphere with a cool and modern aesthetic. There's beer ready to go for customers and TVs along the walls. Very clean and well-maintained business, too. It's by appointment only. So make sure to check out their website for the full list of services they provide and to schedule an appointment. It can seem a little pricey at $30 for the adult cut. I've been going to Jordan for almost 3 years, which was even before this shop. He has a passion for giving the best haircuts and for the past 3 years every haircut he has given me is his 100 percent dedication to attention and detail. Not once has he ever not done a great job, what I'm saying is that he will give you his best effort cut every time. They specialize in more traditional men hairstyles like side parts, comb overs, pompadours, undercuts but some of the barbers are able to do designs and more modern style cuts. I been to other barbers before (not gonna name any names), and some days they are great and some days they will give you the 10-15 min treatment and skip some stuff because they are busy or they are tired. It also helps that he and his whole shop does appointments. I've seen Jordan get better and better over the years, now his appointment book is full almost 1 month ahead so if you want to book him be sure to try and do it early. I'll be continuing going to Jordan for as long as he is not super booked up otherwise I'll try and book his other guys. Con's street parking is terrible some days so make sure you get there early enough to find a spot. Also make sure you are not late by at most 10 mins. read more

I don't know how I skipped this review for this long... The guys here KNOW HAIR! I've been happy with every haircut I've had here and the experience is like that of a true barber shop. Walk in and be greeted by name, grab a beer from the fridge, and chat with the other customers. This place has great decor and just feels good. But let's be honest if all of those things were true and they gave a bad haircut no one would come back. The haircuts can be trendy or classic. I've seen a lot of folks get great undercuts and razor work but then there are normal dudes like me that just need a modern, but standard cut. Everyone walks away happy! They are a small business that only accepts cash, so that's a bit of a bummer and requires a little more planning, but it's worth it to stay away from the discount cutters around town. Finding the right barber is more than just someone who knows how to cut hair. It's the entire experience, the vibe you get when you walk into a place, and Paramount Barbering knows just that. Coming from California, I know I needed to find a place that reminded me a little bit of home, but also somewhere that I would get that real midwest, DSM vibe. Jay was my barber, and he did a fantastic job. We chopped it up, talking about what DSM had to offer, and just two weeks into my stay in Des Moines, it already felt kind of like home. A haircut really makes you feel like a new person, and can make the difference in that first impression for whatever you intend to do, which is why quality is always the major key for a barbershop, and why you can't put a price on a good haircut. Every time I walk in, I know I need a cut. Problem is, I can never seem to find a way to tell Pauly Shears what I want. The good news, is that I always walk out loving the cut he gave me. He is an awesome guy on top of that. Read the long version below for more detail Long version: First of all, I can't say enough about how great a barber Zach Bogle is. I've been going to him ever since he graduated barber school (and a bit before) and he's been nothing short of awesome. I have always been pleased with my haircuts from him. To attest to that, I now drive 2 hours (since he moved) to still get my haircut from him. Every time I see him, he's been somewhere to enrich himself when it comes to being a barber. He's always traveling to learn new tricks of the trade. He's confident, quick, and very sharp. I asked him today for something a little different. I wanted to look a week or two after a haircut instead of fresh today, and he nailed it. 100%. And socially, he's great to talk to. Easy going, keeps up with modern stories, all around good guy to just be around. The environment here is wonderful. It's masculine. There's brick, old pin-up art on the walls, and TVs normally with ESPN on them. You can really tell the barbers are all friends, almost brotherly. They'll give each other a hard time with smiles on their faces and it makes you feel like you're a part of their group. It's a place you want to be a part of, not to just necessarily sit down and bury yourself in your phone. They'll offer to sell you stuff if they think you'll honestly benefit from it. There isn't the badgering and pushing of products to upsell you that you might get other places. That doesn't go down here. I always set up appointments in advance. I would suggest doing the same, but they do accept walk-ins when they have openings. These guys are all professional, and I know if Zach is associated with them, any single one of them would do an excellent job and do their best to make you happy. I book my cuts with Zach Bogle (never disappoints), but based on what I've seen I don't think you can go wrong booking with any of the guys who cut here.
