Once again this is a venue in The Garden of Unearthly Delights. The Paridiso is one of two Speigeltents that are in The Garden.
This venue was great :) It looks like a lovely old vaudevillian/circus/bohemiam venue. And that is kind of what it is. Performances in this venue are everything from Limbo (which is a circus act) through to The Vaudevillians (a Vaudville style comedy show) and even The Hot Dub TIme Machine (wich is a dance party)
The Spiegeltents are very versatile venues, and the staff at the Paridiso work tirelessly to ensure that each performance goes off without a hitch. Like all of the venues in Adelaide during the fringe, there is a fast turn around for shows in the Paridiso. But the staff always make sure this happens as smoothly as possible.
We were in this venue on Sunday night to see the final performance of The Vaudevillians. For this performnace the seating was cabaret style - but they had ensured that there were only enough tables and chairs for the size of the audience. This forces the audience to sit close to the stage - and gives the performers a nice intimate space to work with. This worked brilliantly well with the show that we saw, hats off to the organisers at this venue for achievning this.
What I was particulalry impressed by, was the ability to change the venue from a performance of Limbo (a circus act) over to the cabaret style show so quickly. I am seeing Limbo later in the Fringe so it will be interesting to see what that is setup like - to have an understanding of how much work goes into the show change over.
Unlike some of the other venues I have been in so far this fringe, the lighting and sound team in the Paridiso know their stuff. The sound was great, and the lighting (which given its location right around the stage, could have been problematic, was instead brilliant.
This may have become my new favorite venue in the fringe.
The Paridiso has a fabulous array of shows during the fringe - so go check it out :) read more
