We were directed by Wyndham reception on where to park and how to access our room at Novotel. The room is privately owned so when our check in time of 2pm came my partner received a text from the owner to let her know when we arrived, to text when we leave and to let her know if we needed anything. We found the key with it's safe box open. The room was still locked though and we advised it may be broken. After settling we went for a couples massage by an independently owned Beauty salon located in the hotel. There are 3 very nice pools, 3 tennis courts, a large gym, basketball court, golf course, aqua golf. I actually could keep going. The resort has everything. You don't need to leave. Back at reception there is Charlie's restaurant. A 3 part restaurant with proper 3 course meals, bar and bar food if after something casual and a grab it and go menu to take away. I spied some of the dishes when waiting for our pick up order. Looked delicious and very well presented. Now for the room. Eccentric, peculiar, a little old fashioned and bird themed. It grew on me though and felt more homely than your average hotel room. Even the giant gallah framed over the bed became part of the charm. A small balcony overlooked the aqua golf pond. It was cosy with blankets inside if it gets cool but the chairs, cushions, rails and floor could use a clean.

The lounge was horrible as the bartenders and waiters were rude. The drinks were extremely expensive as well. Food was ice cold. The hotel itself was disgusting. Somebody relieved themself in the pool so we couldn't use that and there were cockroaches in the room. On the bed there were stains and bedbugs. Asked for a room change and after a full hour struggle the management finally gave us a different room. In that room, the bathroom was cramped and smelled horrible. Bad bad bad. 1/5 stars.

The pool is not heated, which is a bit of a let down, but there are tennis courts, mini golf, an arcade, a beach and heaps more to keep the kids occupied while Mum and Dad get some R and R. Probably not the best place for a couples retreat, but for a family it would do the job fine.

You would expect that when a group of 8 of you check in they would assist with getting all your luggage to your room which was a big FAIL. The room we stayed in was very clean and had generous rooms. The kitchen was very well appointed and well equipped with what you would expect from a resort. The Buree we stayed in was the family room and it had four bedrooms with three bathrooms, one of which had a spa bath. The free Austar/Foxtel was great for the days that weren't very good weather wise but be warned, the resort offers WIFI but it's very expensive. If you have time to use or need internet access, you may be better off going to your local telco and buying a wifi/3G USB dongle. Plenty of parking but a fair distance from the reception if you have lots of luggage to carry. Although the resort does have use of trolleys. The restaurant overlooking the ocean was very picturesque and the food was very nice and very reasonably priced. Lunchtime time mains were around $15 and very tasty. The many pools on the grounds of the resort meant there was no shortage of cooling off after a day of sight seeing around Coffs Harbour. Even on wet days, the outdoor heated spa baths were very relaxing. Then of course there was the beach which was only a short walk from the resort. A wonderful location for families as there were plenty of things to do. The kids swimming area with water slide was a big hit with my niece. Final analysis: It's an 8 out of 10 for me. Great family getaway. Good way to unwind and relax.
