The Viktualienmarkt was a bustling outdoor food market with restaurants, coffee shops, wine shops,…read moresome crafts & a busy beer hall. Late afternoons it's very busy with lines of people trying to purchase & outdoor seating overflowing. Each stall beautifully presents its wares. Between stalls are magnificent fountains. I understand we can bring out gourmet picnic from the market to the beer hall, and enjoy my meal with a cold brew. However, by the end of the day after 20,000 + steps my feet hurt, I'm tired & just want to be served. The Viktualienmarkt developed from an original farmers' market in 1807 to a popular market for gourmets. There are now 140 stalls and shops offering flowers, exotic fruit, game, poultry, spices, chocolates, wines & cider, pastries, cheese, fish, juices....

Best to come with a few friends to stake out a table. Alone,... good luck. The Augustinerbrau Helles is my favorite beer in Munich and I wish I had been able to sit down to appreciate it fully. I took a picture of my liter Mass standing with several other people. Later I had tea and a pistachio croissant at the nearby Eataly, a Keberkaessemmel at the A. Klobeck Metzgerai and a small craft gift at the Kunst & Handwerk shop of Peter Urban, all ringing the Viktualienmarkt. There is something for everyone at the Viktualienmarkt.

I just love this shop! It is very easy to find fun and useful gifts for most people. Whenever I am…read morenear Sendlinger Tor, I enter this store to see what new stuff they have. I already bought there something for myself. But most of the times I just buy gifts for friends. And they really like it. Who would not like the stuff they have? OK, the person has to like some colorful things. :D The store has a wide range of products, which goes from decorative, home, kitchen, personal care, accessories, to office items. The products are most of the time very colorful, amusing, and very functional as well as fun. They provide gift packing at no extra cost. I am not so sure if they also do it on Saturdays, given that the store do gets a bit crowded. It is almost guaranteed you will find a gift that the matches the person that will receive it. :D

Pop culturish with brightly designed toys, clocks, etc. This is also a place I could see locals coming to get something for their young teen nieces and nephews, particularly females who want something hip for the phone or bag. Overall, a nice place with cute ideas it just wasn't what were looking for on this trip so we did not make any purchases. With that being said, check it out anyway.

I was fortunate to come by this cute little cafe and bakery as it was only a block away from where…read moreI am staying on an impromptu first-time trip to Germany. The space and atmosphere are intimate and cute. The woman who helped me (possibly the owner?) seemed a bit flustered, and admittedly it added to my embarrassment in not being able to speak German as I felt like a bit of an inconvenience. I asked for a traditional German breakfast and was given the Weisswurst and pretzel. FYI - apparently you don't eat the sausage skin-on; you can, but it's considered very touristy. The wurst didn't seem to have a ton of flavor, but whatever, it was my first breakfast in Germany, and when in Rome. The pretzel on the other hand was amazing. So much more flavor and care obviously goes into them than the street pretzels in New York I'm used to. Another FYI - it's standard to tip 10%, and often you have to ask for this to be out in the card before they charge you. However, the woman said they can't do this here, and you must tip in cash, which I didn't have. The woman was not too pleased about this, so do be sure to have cash when you go in. All in all it seems like a very charming place - by the time I left it was filled with locals. I'd like to go back again sometime knowing the things I now do.

I have yet to eat here, however what I have seen with the few times that I have been here is good quality and nice selection. It does remind me of something that you would find in NYC, which makes me really want to try the bagel selection that they do have here. Great staff, good seating for groups, and nice out door seating when the weather is at its best.
