We had an entire afternoon open and ventured down the street to the big yellow Pizzeria sign and gave it a try. All of the staff was very friendly and laughed with us at our lack of Italian but helped us pick a few items off the menu. We ordered a 1/2 Litre of Vino Blanco, Ravioli Pasta, Penne Pasta, and a specialty pizza. The dishes were proportioned well and full of flavor, and each was priced between €4-€7 with some easily being shared between two. We had a great experience and on our last night in Italy went back late at night for dessert and a full Litre of wine to share. The staff remembered us from the previous night and welcomed us back like family. I had a delicious ricotta cheesecake that was so fluffy and full of flavor I just savored it for an hour, and Nathan enjoyed a Tirolese; a chocolate layer cake similar to Tiramasu. We stayed there for a good amount of time just enjoying wine, dessert, and company with no rush just enjoying the Italian lifestyle for one last night.

The Osteria is in the city centre just 2-3 km from the highway exit Casale Monferrato Nord on A26. I went there by chance while searching for a place were to eat with the family. The menu is simple but with choice of 3-4 dishes for each category. We started with peperoni with a salsa and fried anchovies, fresh fried fresh fish, simply and delicious.After we had tagliatelle ai fungi, home made pasta with fresh mushrooms. Both the children and my wife were trucked by the delicate but intense taste. I went for a more 'casareccio' Tajerin al ragù:,simply delicious. We also the rabbit with potatoes was wonderful. Even if cooked in the Niven was tender and succulent. As dessert we had Bunet, and Zabaiione with Krumiri (typical biscuits). I enjoyed the Zabaiione but especially the Krumiri made by then!! ( you can also buy them there). For 2 starter, 4 main course and 3 dessert we payed 80 euro. Worth the money and worth a ride. Belle experienza. Siamo capitati qui per caso in cerca di un'alternativa all'autogrill, mentre viaggiavamo in A26. A qualche chilometro dal casello di Casale Monferrato Nord, nel centro città ci siamo imbattuti in Ostetia Amatotto. A parte i divertenti piatti decorati da disegni di bambini, la sala era pieni colleghi di lavoro in pausa pranzo: quindi servizio veloce e buon rapporto prezzo qualità. La prima impressione è stata poi confermata dalla cortesia e professionalità del personale. Abbiamo cominciato con peperoni con salsa di acciughe e con delle magnifiche alici Fritte: fresco il pesce ottima e leggera la frittura. Abbiamo poi assaggiato sia le tagliatelle con i funghi: fresca la pasta e freschi i funghi e quindi gustosi. Io ho optato per un più casareccio Tajerin al ragù: fantastica la pasta buoni il ragù. Abbiamo anche assaggiato un coniglio al forno con patate. Sorprendentemente succulento ed umido. Abbiamo chiuso con i dessert: Bunet e Zabaione con Krumiri. Ottimo lo zabaione, anche se un po' troppo alcolico per i miei gusti, e squisiti i Krumiri fatti in casa, che sono anche in vendita. Assolutamente da provare. Non mancheremo di fare un'altra sosta nei nostri viaggi tra nord e sud...

My wife ordered the Prosciutto e funghi (which we now know to be tomato, mozzarella, ham, mushrooms) and I ordered the Calzone farcito (which is tomato, mozzarella, ham, artichoke, mushrooms) We should mention that neither one of us are big fans of ham and thought it was going to be like American Prosciutto, so it was quite a surprise when we saw chunks of ham covering our plates. However, the crusts and sauce were very fresh and tasty and each had an enormous plate of food for about €6, leaving us very full and satisfied. We did end up going back a couple days later for a nice dinner, and were much more successful at ordering a 1/2 Litre of wine, Risotti frutti di mare, and a Diavola pizza with spicy sausage and salami... and little cut up pieces of hot dog, that part was a bit strange. They have a really nice location and the patio area is really great.
