I rolled into Florida hungry, running on fumes, and pulled over at a taqueria that had exactly zero interest in impressing me from the parking lot. Which is, of course, always a good sign. The service was quick. The people were kind. The place was clean, and I say that as someone who has knowingly eaten tacos in questionable places. The menu was unapologetically Mexican, but it wouldn't scare off anyone who's discovering it for the first time. We got carne asada tacos. A pork tamale. A torta Hawaiiana. All of it landed well above the line, but the tamale. That tamale might have been the best I've ever had, and I don't say that lightly. Masa that knew what it was doing.
