The select of bag-making supplies and patterns is small but unique. There wasn't much in the way traditional fabric and nothing at all faith-based (except for Halloween-type). The classroom looked open and had a large class going. The shop was very crowded, with bolts and displays very close together. It made it a little challenging to shop. The central cutting table made it difficult for staff to greet shoppers. One clerk did ask me if I was finding what I needed when she was out from the counter. I was visiting WI from a different state, and I wouldn't make a return trip to Blue Bar next time, but I can see how someone local might shop there.

High points: - similar items placed together, but also collections largely placed together - a handcut area of fat quarters that are different from the usual precut by the manufacturers selections. - a very big clearance room Low points: - clearance prices only apply to 1 yard or more and I didn't see this policy posted (though I might have missed it), so the savings if you're getting a smaller cut, like many do for quilts and such, is fantasy. -almost no modern-type design lines. I would've loved to see more Free Spirit or Cotton & Steel or the trendier Moda lines, etc. - some of the employees are not particularly friendly. In a small, independent shop, if you're unwilling to at least look like you're vaguely interested in the customers it's a bit off-putting. All in, I'll still be visiting again when I'm next in WIsconsin. Mill House is a nice shop with the possibility to be amazing.

Sandra's had the most unique and plentiful collection of all. It's a small store front with great fabrics inside. Mill House in Sun Prairie and Electric Needle came close behind. I visited many more going to Whitewater and Reedsburg. These were the best only 30 minutes from Madison. The new owner, Sandra was a great too.

Then yesterday, I was looking through my Visa account to make sure there were no odd charges. Whadya know, there's a mystery $28 charge from Nancy's Notions. That was odd, since what I had ordered was $3.99; that charge also appeared on my account. Later in the day, I got a shipping confirmation from them, for something I didn't order, and probably never would have ordered. I called their customer service line this morning. They say they don't keep credit card information for security reasons, so this couldn't have happened. The only thing I can do is refuse the package, and they will eventually credit my account. They did say that they show that the order was placed over the phone; I'm guessing that someone else's order was charged and sent to me. Bottom line - don't ever order anything over the phone. They've really gone downhill over the past few months. If I could find everything I buy from them somewhere else, I would go there.

I have purchased my Serger and one of my favorite machines from them and the service is top notch. I know they have been in transition since the sad passing of Nancy which may explain some of the bad reviews. I only had one bad experience and it was a serger class that I took. The instructor was not someone from the store but the company. I thought there were too many people in the class and the instructor was not prepared enough. I can not blame the store or the girls for that. Do not be afraid to check this store out and purchase products.
