Hard to get to but gorgeous private beach! We went on a rough surf day and got caught in a storm. It was still worth it!

Anahola Beach Park - At Anahola Beach Campground, although you reserve a site at kauai.gov, it's basically pick a spot on grass and set up your tent.

By far the dirtiest, nastiest, trashiest beach on Kaua'i. It should be called homeless beach. I get…read moreyou can camp here, but most of those tents were definitely inhabited by people who are unhoused-- and it shows by all the trash. I stepped on glass while walking barefoot by the water. There was literal plastic trash floating in the water and coming up shore. Never again.

I spent 2 nights here camping at Anahola Beach Park. For those traveling to Kauai on a budget, this…read moreis the place to be. It's only $3 per night for which you reserve a campsite online at kauai.gov. But upon arriving, it was basically pick your own area to set up your tent and survive the night. They don't offer space for anything other than tents. Although I picked Camper 07 ahead of time, there were no numbered campsite signs and so wherever there was free grass during both nights, I set up my tent. Btw, at least sleeping on grass is always a plus. There was no security or authority walking around and checking permits. The campground was crowded during both evenings. I was just grateful to have any sort of room. It got dark around 6:30pm and if you don't have your tent up and ready to go, you're pretty much struggling to do anything in total darkness. Also, I avoid leaving your tent set up during daytimes and trusting that it'll still be in the same place when you return by the end of the day. I'd play it safe and take down the tent, especially because there's too many unknown factors and campers occupying the same space. The good thing about Anahola Beach Park is its location. If you have early reservations to hike popular Kalalau Trail, it's only 26 miles away along the northern part of Kauai. Other nearby landmarks include... - 7 miles to the closest McDonalds. - 13 miles to Lihue Airport. - 13 miles to Kilauea Lighthouse. - 16 miles to Hanalei Valley Lookout. Some extra notes... - If you plug "Anahola Beach Park" into Google Maps, it's a reliable source to get you to the campground. - You can park on the side of the road next to the grass beside the tents. Though sometimes if you arrive late in the day, parking may be fully occupied. - There is a restroom house with flushable toilets but I don't believe they offered showers. I did also stay at Lydgate Beach Park where I'm certain showers were available over there. - At nighttime, most campers quieted down their conversations somewhat, but if you do want peaceful time, you may have to block out the noise. - There are picnic tables offered but I can't remember seeing any barbecue pits. - You can camp out here for a few nights of the week, but certain evenings they close the campground for cleaning. Besides Lydgate Beach Park, there's Anini Beach and Salt Pond Beach that offer reasonable camping accommodations. Overall, this Anahola Beach Park was serviceable for camping on the island of Kauai. It's a popular spot among the 4 primary campgrounds and it's the cheapest at $3 each night. I would just temper expectations. You're not getting much other than a small space on grass to rest your head.
