Visiting this museum can be a mind-altering experience. It's one thing to see photos, or even film clips and videos of battle tanks in action . . . .It is yet another thing to view them up close and personal in a museum as well-inventoried as the Panzermueuem in Munster, Germany.
It's not in Munster with an umlaut, it's the other one, to the north.
And not just battle tanks are on display here. All manner of vehicles used in war are restored and on display here, such as command jeeps, half-tracks, communication vehicles, and so many more. The diverse colors and styles of camouflage are fascinating.
Want to see an Israeli Merkava tank up close? How about every model of German tank employed during WW2? And also very modern German tanks like the Tiger and Leopard. Vintage and modern armored staff vehicles as well.
One neat display was an impeccably white UN vehicle in full UN livery. A Mercedes tristar emblem adorns the grill, of course.
There are several outstanding engine cutaways, but the single most impressive exhibit was a cutaway tank ! Cars and aircraft can be cut away using a can opener, but tanks are a completely different story, as the cutaway amply proves. It's a fantastic exhibit!
Fans of small arms mounted on small, maneuverable vehicles will not be disappointed either, given the variety and quality of the armed and armored small vehicles on display, even including their belt-fed machine guns, and the mannequins to operate them.
