You would think a restaurant inside Mozart's birth house would be super touristy and cheesy…read more However, this restaurant featured innovative and delicious cuisine that ended up being up one of our favorite meals in Salzburg! Instead of catering to tourists with clichés of Austrian cuisine, this uses elements of Austrian cuisine and other cuisines (French, Italian) to create novel, memorable dishes.
- Chestnut cream and bacon soup. This was the most memorable part of our meal! The flavor is a novel blend of both sweet and savory, and the combination of textures in this soup is fun -- light froth, creaminess, the crunchiness of croutons, the chewiness of bacon. This is a dish I will remember for years.
- Fried salmon. It's really more grilled than fried. The salmon is solid and well-complimented by the saffron cream sauce and the beets. The presentation and mix of colors is also beautiful.
- Truffle risotto with steak. The risotto has a good consistency, and the steak lends such rich flavor, and was cooked perfectly.
Additionally, the atmosphere is hip and modern and overlooks the old town. The salt and pepper combination shaker caught our attention and you can actually buy it at the front! Anyways, I highly recommend this restaurant, especially after exploring Mozart's home!
