Our last moments in Spain were spent here because hell, it was the airport, and we were catching a…read moreflight to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport at 7AM. Of course, that meant arriving at the terminal by the ungodly hour of 5AM. Security and passport check was a breeze at Barcelona El Prat, so we had time to kill before getting to the gate. No doubt of its prime location, this was the first sign of coffee anyone saw coming out of the security zone, which meant almost everyone made a pit stop here to refuel. Jamie W. and I certainly did as we needed a bit of Café con Leche to get our engines going for the flight ahead of us.
The space was surprisingly expansive, accommodating a large influx of people easily even if the staff didn't display as much flexibility. There is an element of Scandinavian ship design given the free-form cabling and wooden ceiling boxes that marked the open space. Not that we appreciated the architectural detail since we were near-zombies at that hour. I did manage to order an exorbitantly priced fruit cup (6.50€) to go with the 3€ Café con Leche (photo: http://bit.ly/2DOrX7p). It held me over until we received our snack boxes on the plane. The meh-ness of the experience lingered after we started homeward bound.
COFFEE - 2 stars...somewhat burnt flavor for so early in the morning
AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...actually more spacious than most kiosks
SERVICE - 2 stars...not stellar at this hour
TOTAL - 2 stars...coffee in the morning if you are in desperate need...and who isn't?
