He did a superlative job. One can only hope that a cruise meets the expectations that the advertisements often pique. In our case, Princess came up short, being that the ship seemed to be out of date in terms of decor and amenities. Food was also inconsistent. The tour advisor cannot be blamed for the failings of the cruise line. Without Dave Branson our experience would have been far different, and probably much less enjoyable.

I've been many times for over 25 years and booked direct and with travel agents. Direct is ok for something simple, you know the cruise line maybe and maybe repeating a trip...say Carnival for the Christmas weekend to Ensenada...but my experience is that the pricing is the same whether buying direct from the line or buying with a travel agent. The travel agent gets a small commission from the line, obviously but they are buying at a discount so the pricing is consistent whether buying from the travel agent or going direct. But what you get FOR FREE from the travel agent is often invaluable in the form of advice about a particular line, the cruise, the ports, where on the ship you want you state room and a dozen other question that these experts to provide. The team at Expedia Laguna Hills is great at this. Old school customer service, actually answering the phone personally and helping you RIGHT NOW, not a website, not endlessly clicking for answers you can't find, real answers when you need them. Dave, Chris and others are responsive, knowledgeable, experienced and very easy to understand, very hard to find in our modern world and so great to have them right here in Orange County.

The woman I spoke with made comments about how young I looked, asked whether I had talked to my parents about the trip, and said something along the lines of, "If I were your mom, I wouldn't be letting you do this." My mom had in fact, come in the day before interested in booking a family trip for us to Costa Rica and had suggested I go since she initially had a good experience. She was well aware of my plans to go in there and that should not be a matter that they are considering when helping someone book a trip. I understand that safety is an important part of travel planning, and I'm absolutely open to hearing professional advice about potential risks. However, the way they went about this situation was not the best in my opinion. Thailand and Vietnam are destinations that many people visit independently, and I was hoping to get practical recommendations and advice about planning our trip. Instead, the conversation left me feeling judged, and the alternatives suggested were a cruise and a much more expensive guided tour, neither of which was what I initially came in looking for. Although the follow-up email was polite, the in-person interaction left a negative impression. I believe a good travel agent should listen to what clients want, offer balanced and informative advice, and respect their ability to make their own decisions. All I did was answer a few questions for Dan and he really helped narrow down the choices. PRICE: I know this is cheesy but after my trip was booked, I looked up the exact same hotel with the same dates - IT WAS THE SAME PRICE as Expedia/Travelocity, actually a little cheaper than them. But it felt good to know I wasn't just a number like I would have been to those other sites. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Every time I had a question, I was able to email Dan directly and get quick response. I really trust his expertise advice. He even sent me a preparation type package of what to do and what not to do, depending on where you book your trip. We went to Cabo and he advised us to avoid the timeshare people in certain sections. They were so tricky and I really would have fell for it if Dan didn't tell us about it. The list had things like what to bring, not to bring, how to keep your house safe while traveling, etc. BONUS: He surprised us with a LIMO TO THE AIRPORT! It was so nice of him to hook us up with a limo to really start off the trip right! Thank goodness too because after crazy planning, we didn't even think about how we would get to the airport.
