For me, visiting a McDonald's is never exactly a proud moment. It usually means I'm a) drunk, b)…read morehungover or c) suffering a momentary lapse of self control and ruining my most recent attempts to be healthy. We've all been there, I'm sure. Thing is, McDonald's actually is good for those things and if that's what you're after then there's no shame in that. This branch is especially handy in that it's open 24 hours. It also has a drive-thru attached, although I've never used that facility so I can't properly comment on it. In spite of being a small, drive-thru branch they still do all of the major offers (so if you get one of those vouchers for a big mac and fries for £1.99 then go ahead, they'll accept it) and they do all the standard UK menu items, including the specials as they come and go. Food-wise it's the same as any other McDonald's. They can alter your items if you have any particular requirements and they almost always have a few Big Macs and McChicken Sandwiches ready to go as you walk in. If not, they're still pretty quick. Less popular items, such as specials, salads and deli sandwiches take a bit longer, but I'm pretty sure that's true everywhere. You can expect really long queues around dinner time and long-ish queues at lunch time over the weekends. I've only ever once failed to get a seat, though. Plus, the staff are quick enough and clearing the queue and if there's a wait for fries (or if you've ordered something less popular) they'll tell you to go take a seat and will bring it to you when it's ready. The toilets are kept pretty clean and the staff do a decent job of clearing the tables whenever they get chance. The WiFi is free too, so I could even imagine people working here during quieter hours. One very important thing though - don't get the coffee. It's the worst I've ever tasted. Just don't.

Best kebab in Glasgow. Bar none. No, your local is not better! Blasphemy, I say!…read more Persepolis is a South Side takeaway institution, and has been in business as long as I can remember. I love everything about them, down to their super special garlic kebab sauce which you can choose instead of the bog standard one. The kebab meat is marinated beautifully, and flame grilled to tasty perfection. I usually get a large chicken kebab, which gets me two pita breads as well. The beauty of it is they don't stuff the pita bread for you. You get to do this yourself. Why is that a good thing, you may ask? Have you ever gotten your meal home and the bread is soaking and falling apart? Or have you ever had your pita bread stuffed to the point that it's coming apart at the seams? Not a problem in this shop. I'm also a huge fan of their calzone! Not only do they stuff the pizza crust silly, but they also top it with more sauce and cheese on the top! Sensational stuff. Super awesome. Their chips are not half bad either (whenever I've pinched some from someone else). If you're ever in the Battlefield area and hankering for some snackage, this is the place to drop by! You'll be ever so glad you did.

I was enticed to Lasani's by Hector Curry-Heute and his excellent blog here…read more(http://curry-heute.com/category/scotland/glasgow/glasgows-top-rated/lasani-grill/) and I was not disappointed. After have a beer in Sweeney's on the Park and then at the Allison Arms, Julie and I were getting pretty hungry and I really fancied a curry after being on a wedding diet the past few weeks. Side-stepping the standard fayre of Indian restaurants I consulted Glasgow's favourite curry blog and found that two of the best rated curry houses were within a few minutes walk. Tonight we chose Lasani, next time we may try Yadgar (although Lasani was so good it's difficult not to return!). Lasani looks like a standard curry/kebab house, but when you turn right there's a wee seating area for about 25 people which means you can enjoy eating out at takeaway prices. We started with a chicken sheesh kebab for £2.50 between us. This got us FOUR kebab sticks and a huge plate of salad (the olives weren't great but everything else was). This was a little spicy for Julie so that meant more for me! To follow we had a couple of the Desi style curries each (I had lamb chop Karahi which was epic, super tender lamb), a pilau rice, nan bread (£1!!!) and a couple of chapatis. This was too much but we did a great job to try and finish it off and got a pretty big doggy bag to take home. The mains took a while to come but this is because it was cooked to order. Classy. There's obviously no alcohol for sale here so we had a couple of cans of pop for 70p a throw. Stick that in your pipe rip-off merchants! What was the total bill for two people completely stuffed with authentic and incredible Pakistani cuisine? Just £19. This included the popadoms too and enough food for another meal. Don't expect fine dining, but do expect fine food.
