I had someone else at another salon who wasted almost a year of my time with upselling me these fake protein treatments before she would do a simple highlite. She actually convinced me my hair was shot and I needed this. I went with it. Then she cut my hair and completely ruined the shape. That was it. Searched around locally. Stumbled across Stellas Salon info on FB. Messaged. She got me in. She took one look and got it right back to where I wanted it without having to cut a lot more off like I thought! Then she started coloring my hair and through all of the many highlites my hair has never been fried and always feels so soft. I even went behind her back and dyed my hair like almost black and after two visits I'm blonde again. Again with completely healthy hair. I've always…read morebeen happy with the cuts, especially during my long, drawn-out process of growing out my bangs. (Also provided: moral support while growing out the bangs, which I very much needed.) I have medium-dark blonde hair and Brittany has a light touch with highlights which brightens up the overall look of my hair color without giving me dark roots to worry about and maintain. I don't have the time or money to mess around with roots; subtle highlights are the goal for my hair and I'm consistently pleased with the results. The salon is in downtown Saratoga so you are paying Saratoga prices (sigh, I'm still a midwestern girl at heart, and the cost of living up here really hurts that heart). But, for Saratoga, this is the first place where I've reliably received haircuts and color that I like, can get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, and the actual cut and color don't take foreverrrrrr. My previous salon once took a full 3.75 hours for a simple (and not that great) cut and highlight, which is *absurd*, and why I jumped ship. Please note that the Strand does *not* accept credit cards. Cash or check only! Parking can be found on the street if you're lucky, in the public library parking lot, or in the garages on Putnam St and Railroad Place. I think all of the parking in the area is 2 hour time limit between 8am-6pm.

Living in Los Angeles where the weather is dry versus the hot and humidity of upstate NY, I was feeling miserable. I yelped Blended and rolled the dice. Kat did a great job with my hair! I am of mixed race so my hair is not the easiest to manage when it's cut too short. She really knows hair and the direction of hair growth. I didn't look like a drunk porcupine (I drank so much vodka on the plane ride - oh and thanks cabbie!) and I arrived at the dinner party looking so fresh and so clean-clean!!! Don't stop believin'!!! Anyway, this place is worth the detour. Like totally, next time when I'm in Manhattan, I'll just schedule a car service to take me here. After all, I can't exactly fly my L.A. Hairstylist to NY - she's busy, too! You can get beer-battered hot dogs in upstate NY and even catch that lady from NY Lotto, Yolanda Vega sitting at the neighborhood bar socializing with friends and neighbors!!
