I used to be a subscriber to the idea that, 'It's a haircut, what's the difference between a $10…read morecut and a $50 cut. Same hair, different scissors." But that was when I thought that all haircuts were the same, "Shorter". For years I lived my life like this, thinking it was normal to leave the hairdressers feeling a bit like a douche with big ears and a 1950's farmer kind of style about myself. Then I found out that hairdressers had different specialities. I have curly hair and for the first twenty or so years of my life I have been going to hairdressers who probably thought the same as I did. A haircut just means, "Shorter." My dad has curly hair also and he discovered a hairdresser at a salon called Taglio who was very skilled when it came to cutting these thick follicles of hair, these curly follicles. I decided to go and at this time the top of my head resembled a Wookie's armpit, long ungamely hair, matted and obscuring any and all facial features. I was amazed at how many questions were asked before scissors even met hair. This was a thorough styling. I left the salon about $50 lighter, but with a manageable mop on my dome and looking forward to my next appointment. Claudia, who cuts my hair is a delightful woman and I've never looked forward to haircut before this. Now, as a dude, I've never put much thought into hair and maintenance and I still don't spend much time on it, therefore this makes these 'style meetings' all the more important for me. I used to think that a haircut took about two weeks to grow out and look normal, but now I know that's two weeks longer than it needs to be.

Escape Hair & Aesthetics is steadily winning over each of my friends…read more One by one my friends suggested that I try Escape hair, but the bright pink and purple hair of the hairdressers, complete with shaved sections, made it an intimidating endeavour - what the hell am I going to come out looking like?! There soon came a point however where I could no longer put off a long-delayed cut and decided to brave Escape. Popping in on a Tuesday afternoon, the shop was pretty quiet - only two hairdressers in the shop. I asked if they could fit me in, they said yes and then before I knew it I was sitting down with my alternate barbie hairdresser discussing my options. It seems that I too am now on Team Escape. The hairdressers here are really friendly and talk with you for a while about what you want before letting you indulge in a relaxing wash and condition. Throughout the cut the hairdressers were chatty and talkative, not just amongst themselves but including me in their conversation and offering tea and coffee and a choice of magazines. They double checked any drastic moves and in the end I walked out with exactly what I wanted - or better. And you get all of this for a decent price - $75 for a wash, style cut and blow dry, which is pretty darn cheap for a good haircut in Sydney. Plus they offer free fringe trims. Go Team Escape.

I had exactly what I wanted in an improved version by skillful hands by her. Looove it. Must try. Friendly staff!!
