They treat my girl moose with care and love , she just loves going there , as soon as we pull into the driveway she starts crying because of excitement and can't wait to get out . Very unclear on temperment evaluation and what was required as far as the dogs staying as part of the evaulation. We ended up paying for a full day of care for TWO dogs, thinking that it was required as part of the temperment evaluation on the same day as the evaluation. We were also told that a full day was recommended, but it could be a half or full day. The owner herself and staff just refused to believe that myself and another family member were told this on an initial call and subsequent arrival to the facility. We didn't actually need daycare for the dogs to day but were charged $80 anyway and refuse to refund. Poor customer service. No thanks. We will find somewhere else to bring our dogs. read more

Miss Lola has been going to Pals for Pups since 2017. Wonderful caring staff. I know Miss Lola will be well-taken care of whether it's just for a play day or an extended stay. Pals for Pups does have stringent requirements before they will take a pup--a good thing. And, they are diligent when it comes to making sure vet records are kept up to date. I recently had a medical procedure that required a pet-free home. Friends had offered to take Miss Lola, but I wanted her to be somewhere that knew her, and she would know them. Pals offers curb side pickup and drop off and this has been truly helpful! love the curbside offer. I have two pups that attend there as well as I typically have my two young children in the car so curb side has been super stress free and helpful. Nowhere on the site does it say large dogs aren't allowed, but my dog was denied a temperament test (note that this was over the phone/dog was not present) because he's an adult and "too big". The reasoning was that big dogs may be aggressive and they may know otherwise I'd they haven't known them since they were puppies. That leaves out SO many rescue dogs. As someone who rescues dogs, that makes me so angry. My rescue dog is incredibly sweet and gentle (he's a certified therapy for for Christ's sake) and the fact he was denied sight unseen is ridiculous. It's a blessing in disguise because I'd never want to leave my dog in the care of someone who clearly doesn't share the same love of dogs that I do if they judge dogs by breed and size like that. Glad all your clients' dogs are safe from my Gio's kisses and snuggles I guess! read more

Sent my lab here for boarding and the owners are super strict with new dogs. My girl is super playful, and at our previous daycare she would be paired with bigger energetic dogs who could keep up with her. Instead, they scold her here and discourage her from playing and getting her energy out because she is "too much" They basically do not accept any dogs who are overweight, and don't accept dogs unless they are puppies. Since the people that run the place are trainers, they only believe what they think is best and don't think about what's best for the dogs depending on age, breed, socialization, aggression, and triggers. If your dog shows social aggression, they don't even separate! They muzzle aggressive dogs and let them free in a group. Definitely does not teach them anything or help them with proper socialization. They also pester their customers if their dog is not PERFECTLY behaved and ramble on about how their dogs need proper training and can't come back unless they do. It's ridiculous and their methods and views on dog behavior is not realistic. The temperament tests they do are not to see how your dog is with other dogs, it's to see if they play, which if they do it's good, but if they are shy or are rough players, they don't match your dog with specific groups or sizes. They just deny your dog. I will be looking elsewhere for my pup to board from now on. read more

We used to take are 1st dog there for years & they were ok at first. Then their liberal politics started to come out. They are now forcing all dogs to have the influenza vaccine. I don't know one other daycare in IL that requires this. I was afraid they were going to make sure the parents had the Covid vaccine when picking up our dogs. We then got our second dog who is almost two & never ever have we seen him mount anything around the house. Our first dog would do this all the time. So Patti basically kicked our dog out for mounting other dogs which was a complete lie. We have been to numerous daycares & dog parks & not once have we witnessed this or other daycares. I've heard from people that Patti comes off as a know it all & picks and chooses who she likes. I think her company grew to big & her ego grew with it. i signed my dog up for obedience training she is a Rottweiler. There were no problems and the building was clean the staff was great and i thought it would be a great fit for myself and dog. About 2 weeks before class was to start I called to let them know I have aortic stenosis and may become out of breath (it isn't a given) the sweet girl on the phone had me speak to the owner, Pati, It was truly the worst conversation i've had with a proprietor of any business i have ever spoken with. I told her my stituation and she proceeded to go on about what an awful fit i was for my dog, that my dog would disturb others. She inferred I was too old and feeble for a Rottie. She asked if my dog was under contraol. Well of course that's why I'd take her to obedience classes. haha My dog and I were totally discriminated my dog for being big and me for having a disease. (BTW our dog was adopted in August and I was diagnosed in December) If it was such a problem you'd think they would offer individual traning. This person has the empathy of a dead skunk read more

Let me start off by saying I've been training dogs for decades. I have brought my own dogs here for playtime on weekends and went with a family member. So I'm very familiar with this facility. First off to the person that said they have a tiny area for the large dogs; that simply is not true. They have several large indoor areas and they have several very large outdoor areas for the dogs as well. This is a very nice clean facility for daycare and training. Caveat I have not seen the areas where they board dogs. I will say that the employees here seem to be long-term employees and do take good care of the dogs. This place is been around for a long time in two locations that I'm aware of. Maybe the owner may seem a little bit abrupt sometimes, but keep in mind that her primary concern is the welfare of the animals. Quite honestly you can't bring strange people parading through an area where you're keeping many dogs. That's just not smart or good for the dogs. They do close down for nap time in the mid day which is also for the benefit of the dogs. In the place they currently reside they actually have a drive up service where they will bring the dog out to your car. While this might seem strange or a bit unusual to some, because most places do not offer this service, this is very convenient for the owners and much better for the well-being of all the dogs. As I stated earlier bringing strange people through A place that houses many dogs causes a lot of undue excitement and stress on the dogs. I personally have taken applications for behavior assignments with dogs and could tell within the first few minutes that I could not work with the owners. For one reason or another we just didn't click. So I can also understand why someone might suggest going to another trainer or facility before actually meeting the dog. The truth is sometimes you just don't click with the owner and realize it's not a good fit before you actually meet the dog. I understand how people can be when it comes to their dogs. That's not always a good thing because sometimes we humans can make our pets a bit neurotic. Daycare is a wonderful thing for most dogs. So I would suggest anyone that doesn't particularly like this place due to the personality of the owner to do a little comparison shopping. This place stands head and shoulders above most. I have been in the dog training and animal rescue community for many many years. I do struggle sometimes to deal with some people. This includes pet owners as well as people that work in the industry. I would say that I'm much more apt to want to deal with a place that puts the welfare of the animals above all else. And this is one of those places. For those people that have dogs and want to find a place to train, do daycare, or board their dogs, I would suggest looking beyond the reviews and visit this place and Bring your questions and concerns and see if this might be a good fit for you. Pals for Pups is wonderful! I have nothing but wonderful things to say! I actually prefer this place to others as they are strict with not just accepting any dog, as to protect the wellbeing of all dogs. I feel my puppy dog is safe, and well loved and cared for which is such a blessing!!! I have went to Pals for Pups for many years. I first tried them with Max who was our little 17.5 pound Silky Terrier Schnauzer mix. Max passed away at 15 years, though he absolutely loved Pals for Pups. Now, I have a new Sheepadoodle Puppy Blizzard. I started taking him to daycare recently when I need to go into the office. Blizzard completely loves everyone (dogs and people), and gets so excited and happy to go. All the staff and the owners are super nice. I have never had a bad experience. The facility is very clean, and the people are wonderful. I love seeing Blizzard's pictures online with all of his puppy dog friends. We love this place! Pals for Pups is an impressive establishment from their super spacious play areas to their friendly staff to their convenient drop off options (there's an intercom option so you don't even have to leave your car!). Buddy, our new golden retriever pup, runs and plays and froclicks for an entire morning, enjoys a nap time with a frozen kong filled with peanut butter, plays some more and promptly passed out in the car on the way home. Not a bad life. Beyond full day or half day doggie daycare/playcare that's separated by dog size, they also offer Yappy Hours, grooming and boarding. I cannot say enough good things about this place!!! My husband and I have a VERY hyper Boxer puppy and were at our wits end with him. Our pup Max is very lovable but crazy and even with 4 walks in a day he was jumping all over us trying to play, destroying anything he could get his hands on and actually pulled my husband down the stairs with his leash which broke a bone in husband's foot! We completed 2 levels of puppy training at Petsmart but seemed like nothing that we could do would help - finally the teacher recommended puppy day care to allow our little guy to play and socialize with other pups and get out some of that energy. After researching places in our area, Pals for Pups was exactly what we were looking for. After dropping our little guy off today, he was amazingly sweet and exhausted and it was wonderful. Peaking around the facility this place is a clean, safe environment for your pup. It is not cheap, but we see this as an investment in our puppy! Our puppy, Bruce, started at Pals for Pups this week. He went 2x this week and we went to Yappy Hour today. I have nothing but great things to say. The staff is great, and they always take time to answer my questions. Today, I noticed several staff members already knew Bruce by name. The facilities are sweet, lots of space to run and play (indoors and outdoors). But the best part is how happy going makes Bruce (and us) obviously he can't tell us with words that he likes it, but with his body language it's evident. We love it because he comes home worn out and is a very sleepy puppy- and when you live with a high energy 5 month old Boxer puppy a sleepy puppy is a very beautiful thing! The only thing that would make Pals for Pups better is the ability to live stream video of the dogs playing. I would love to be able to see what Bruce is up to throughout the day. Not at all because I don't trust Pals for Pups or because I question what he's doing, but mostly because I love seeing my Brucey run around having fun. read more

Contacted the facility about training for my brother's 6 month old puppy. I asked a few quick questions and became concerned about 2 things... First, when I asked about their philosophy of training, the first thing I was told about was "correction", that they believed in correcting and having the dog comply on first command. The word "correction" was used 3 or 4 times in my brief conversation, as well as no treats. I think that most trainers feel opposite and that treats are a great motivator when first introducing training and then weaning off as the dog continues to learn. I then asked about the type of collar that the dog's would need to wear, expecting to hear "Martingale". Instead, I was told that a chain collar was required, no exceptions. Needless to say, I was shocked. Most trainers do not believe a chain, choke,pinch or prong collar should EVER be used. They are not humane training tools! I also asked about professional certifications that the trainers held and I was told none that they knew of. I am looking for a force free, positive reinforcement environment that builds on trust and bonding. None of those words were used by the person I spoke with. This is not the right environment for my family's dog. read more

Patti tested my dog for Saturday pup play. The other dog used in the testing jumped all over my dog and bit at his face, my dog did nothing in response. Patti then said my dog was too, then she shook her hand and did not say what he was "too", and she failed him. He is now 9 years old and never had a problem, just a sweetheart. She has a problem. I have been taking my dog to pals for pups for a couple years now. I cannot say enough good things about Patti the owner and her staff. My dog is very well taken care of and the staff treats each dog as if it were their own pet. The new facilty is state of the art and very clean. I am very confident that my dog is safe when I leave him there for a day of play care or boarding. He gets so excited when I simply say "lets go to pals". He comes home totally exhausted and all played out. I personally, am very happy that Patti is very thorough in her temperment testing before she accepts new dogs. I have been to other facilities where this is not done. Owners have said "my dog is great with other dogs and people" only to have their dogs attack other dogs and handlers. I have never witnessed any dog or employee injured at pals for pups. Any person who is not concerned for their dogs wellness is not a responsible owner. That is why I would not take my dog anywhere else 10 STARS ! read more

Beware of dog discrimination and excessive pricing! We had been taking our male retriever mix dog to Pals for Pups since he was about 6 months old and everything was fine. Our dog loved going to Pals and would come home exhausted, which made us very happy. We also boarded him at Pals on numerous occasions with no issues. About a year later, we adopted a new puppy to keep our other dog company. She is a Cane Corso Mastiff. We began taking her to Pals with our other dog about once a week since she was 4 months old and everything was fine for about the next 6 months. Each time we took our dogs there we received very positive feedback from the handlers about how our dogs behaved. Fast forward to last summer when our opinions of Pals changed. My husband and I were preparing to leave town for the weekend and scheduled our dogs to be boarded at Pals while away. Late the night before we were planning to leave, our female dog had been sprayed by a skunk. Realizing we needed to treat our dog right away, my husband and I gave her a thorough skunk treatment. After her bath, we crated both dogs separately and went to bed. The next morning my husband dropped off both dogs at Pals, neither of which we thought smelled of skunk. I guess we were wrong, because Pals had left us a message on our answering machine stating that our other male dog smelled of skunk and we needed to come and pick him up. Note, nothing was said about our female dog smelling or needing to be picked up. To our knowledge, our boy had not been skunked but thought perhaps some of the smell may have transferred onto him at some point. We were not available when the staff person at Pals attempted to reach us; therefore, we did not receive the messages until a couple of hours after dropping them off. Upon hearing their messages, my husband quickly ran over to Pals to pick up our male dog. When he arrived, he was told that our dog had already been given a skunk treatment because they weren't able to reach us and that it was okay to leave and board him. Relieved that the problem had been resolved, my husband and I boarded both dogs there and headed out of town. After returning from our trip, we picked up our dogs from Pals. This is when we were shocked to learn that they had treated BOTH of our dogs and that we owed Pals an additional $300 for these services. Note, this fee was only for a skunk treatment, neither of them had been groomed. In fact, our male dog's fur still smelled, was matted and neither had appeared to have been brushed. When we asked why the fee was so extreme and why our female needed be treated, we were told we needed to speak with the owner, Patti. I sent Patti an email explaining our situation and apologized for any inconvenience we may have caused. I also asked her why the fees were so high. She later explained that they don't do skunk treatments as a rule, they were very busy that day, didn't have a dog groomer scheduled and had to call someone in specifically to give them their treatments. Fair enough, we gave her the benefit of that but disagreed with her claim that our female also needed a treatment because we had treated her ourselves the night before and there was no mention made by her staff of her needing a treatment in the messages we had received. While disappointed by the whole situation and feeling we had been overcharged, we let it go and continued to take our dogs to daycare at Pals. Weeks later, Patti asked that we start bringing both dogs to daycare at least twice a week because they are large breeds that need more socializing. This seemed odd since we never received any negative feedback about how our dogs behaved while under Pal's care. We complied for a while but @ $30 per dog/day, we agreed that Patti's request seemed like a rather expensive requirement that would cost us at least $3,120 per year. We also didn't think her request was just or reasonable because we do socialize our dogs by other means (e.g., dog parks, doggie play dates, pet stores, and regular walks, etc.) So, we went back to taking them approx. once a week - again with no negative feedback from staff about their behavior while under their care. Apparently, this was not acceptable and we ultimately received a curt "Dear John" email from Patti stating that our dogs were not permitted to return because they didn't come often enough. Not a nice way to treat a customer who had been going there for at least a year and a half. Honestly, I don't know how Pals can offer a 12-pass that is good for a year, accept our payment for such plan, and then end up telling us that we need to bring them to daycare twice a week regularly with no justification other than the Owner's opinion that our dogs need more socializing. Our dogs are are gentle and friendly and we've never had any socialization issues. We think Patti was either looking for a way to get more $ out of us or get rid of us entirely because we have large breed dogs or perhaps the skunk issue. read more

I had the same experience with Patty that others have had. Called a couple months ago to schedule a bath for my dog, and was told the owner would have to talk to me. After 3 phone calls and what I considered a ridiculous amount of questions just for a grooming, I finally cancelled the appt and went elsewhere. I called yesterday to inquire about daycare, and was again told that the owner would have to call me back (apparently this lady doesn't trust her employees). When she called me back, I was told that because my dog is not a puppy, and is a large breed she would only consider taking him if: 1. I go to another daycare and she can get a good reference... why the heck would I go somewhere else only to pull him out if he's doing well and take him to a place that didn't want him in the first place??? Or 2. Sign up for their obedience classes so that she can "get to know him in a controlled environment". That sounds like a scam to get more money out of me.... Anyway, if Patty doesn't feel she is equipped to handle larger breed dogs after a certain age, then I am probably better off. However, if that is the policy, It would have been nice to avoid the snotty dismissal by having the size, breed, or age restrictions listed on their webpage. read more

We have taken the obedience 1 course and are currently in the obedience 2 course, and have received SO many compliments from others on how well behaved she is. This was horrible. I took my dog yoda their for training for walking on the leash. Yoda was a rescue dog and we decided it would be best to teach him how to walk. we hit their. Took my dog in for a temperament test. As I was talking to the woman upfront, other dogs were approaching mine. My dog had no problem. As we continued to talk, another woman comes out with her dog. Her dog proceeds to charge into my dogs face and back her into a corner. My dog let out one small bark to the other dog (she did not growl or snap.) As soon as that happened, the woman upfront proceeds to tell us that her behavior is not tolerated and she will not be accepted at their facility. In March 2022, I inquired about a temperament test and daycare services for my newly rescued dog. I was asked his age, weight, and breed. When I received a call back the next day, the woman told me that she could not offer a temperament test to my dog because with an "older" dog it can be harder to mold and correct their play, as opposed to getting dogs when they are puppies. When I clarified that my dog was not an older dog, she insisted that a "60 pound dog can do much more damage than a 20 pound dog". When I asked if they have size restrictions, she said "no, but we just really don't know what to expect from an English Bulldog. I said "isn't that the point of a temperament test?" She said she could not offer him a temperament test because she would need to know that he had good previous experiences at dog parks and with other dogs...yet she NEVER asked me to provide this information before denying him. I became frustrated and said "first it was that he was too old, then it was his size, now it's his breed...what is the reason that you are denying him?" And she said she understands it must be frustrating having a dog like mine and that if I wanted references to other places I could ask her then hung up on me. I called back and stated that I would like references to other places. She gave me one and said I could go my own googling. I said that for the next person who calls, not to offer references to other places if she's not going to do it. Incredibly disappointed at the lack of professionalism and respect. They also hold training sessions through the park district and the first thing the trainer did was hand out these metal chains to everyone! Doesn't matter if your dog is a young puppy or a four year old big strong dog. For the rest of the hour we had to basically jerk our poor dog's necks and choke them to get them to behave. It was extreme! For those that do not believe in negative reinforcement this wasn't a great way to learn!! Needless to say I am getting my money back. I love love love Dog training Now!!! We've brought our dog here consistently when she was a puppy, every Saturday for "Yappy Hour" and boarded her whenever our family went out for vacation. We've supported Pals for Pups before they even moved to this newer location. We recently tried to board her for the weekend, but claimed they don't have her in their records. They asked for a temperament test to see how she deals with other dogs. That was fine. We haven't been there in a while so maybe the records were lost. I then followed up just to make sure we were set for the test and Patti (the manager) told me that my dog was snappy so they just turned us down completely. She did not seem to want to help us and didn't not allow us to take the temperament test (which is literally to test for the so-called snappiness). Mind you, she remembers our dog for being "snappy" from three years ago. My dog has never bitten anyone and has always been called playful by her employees and everyone that our dogs comes across. I called Pals For Pups on a recommendation. The person I spoke with was extremely rude to me. I have a puppy I wanted to Board and thought I could take her there for daycare to see how she did at PFP. Right from the get go, the person I spoke with didn't believe my dog would be a good fit without ever meeting my dog. Then the lady received another phone call which she took and apparently put on hold. She came back on the line to, again, convince me that the dog wouldn't be a good fit (again without ever meeting my dog). When I tried to talk to her a bit more, she said she had to take the other call and for me to call back in 10 minutes. Obviously, I didn't. read more

Walked in for the first time to talk to groomer re: my shih tzu. Talked to 2 different girls to answer my questions and neither girl was any help. I asked to talk to the groomer and was told she was too busy and to come back another time or they could have the groomer call me. Are you kidding me??????? I am a prospective customer and they are too busy. There was no one in the place. Are they the only groomers in town and therefore don't need the business? My dog loves it. I have been using pals for pups for my kennel needs for 4 years now.

We did NOT have a good experience. We left our 14-year old dog here for 6 days/6 nights and will NEVER do that again. I sure hope our experience was a fluke, and that most dogs have a pleasant, loving experience, but sadly this was not the case for our dog. I called several times to check on him. Being that he is older I was a bit concerned leaving him for that period of time, However, each time I called I was assured he was doing great. When I called over the weekend, I was not able to reach anyone and left a message, no one ever called me back. I had to wait two days to talk to someone...that's not right. When I picked him up and got him home his blanket and toys reeked so strong of urine. They were not wet so I was concerned about how long he was forced to sleep in that kind of unsanitary, filthy manner. He also had, and still has 3 days later, constant diarrhea, and was so sore he could not walk down the stairs. I had to get pain meds from his vet. When I called to discuss my concerns, I was met with hostility and irrational yelling from Patty. She was extremely defensive and insisted this would NEVER happen, but I can assure you it did. His things were saturated with urine and he was made to sleep with them. For how long, I cannot say. I had to simply hang up on her because all she did was yell and even went so far as to say my dog must have a bladder issue. He does not. Again, I hope this is an isolated incident and that all the other dogs have a much happier and exciting experience. I would caution anyone who has a senior dog; they have different needs and require more of a "kid-glove" approach and I don't think this facility is capable of caring for them properly. read more

This is the worst company! I had been coming to pals for pups for months. Within the first couple months my dog was attacked by a dog who had "hip issues" (clearly not a candidate for playcare). I gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned. Since the attack, he's been exposed to a strain of the flu AND pink eye. I picked him up today and they accused him of "attacking" another dog. I requested footage and the footage showed him going up to another dog to play. He never even opened mouth on this dog. I said I wouldn't be returning and the owner threatened me to find a better place....they also followed me out to my car and requested pay for the day. I will not be returning and do not recommend. An absolutely wonderful doggie day care facility! My energetic 7 month old female Rottweiler/Lab/German Shepard loves it. (I love it because after a day at doggie school, she gets rid of all that excess puppy energy, and I have a polite dog when we get home.)
