Eagle Lake, a mere fifteen minutes from the middle of the city, is big enough to be exciting (tubing!) and small enough to keep Silky safe. If you head out around two or three you might catch a glimpse of Club Pontoon, the floating suburban party that rocks out to Jimmy Buffet every weekend off of Maple Grove's leafy coast. Also, turtles!

It is located less than 10 miles from Minneapolis in the suburb of Plymouth, quick getaway from the city. There are lovely parks surrounding the lake, and the paths are nicely paved connecting to Minneapolis, Maple Grove, and Minnetonka. The paths are ideal for biking, running, and a nice stroll. There's lots and lots of parking, Medicine Lake is one of my favorite lakes and I love the walking paths something one can enjoy all year long with the change of seasons, oh the colors and the fragrance! It offers a variety of recreational sports, full Basketball & Tennis courts, Soccer and Softball fields and a Hockey rink. Shallow pool and a small majestic library (Webber Library) that was built in 1927. If none of this excites you, It's a beautiful park to picnic, hike or just throw a blanket down under a tree during summer breezes and read a book. The Legislature last July approved a $4 million project to renovate the park. A new pool is scheduled to open this summer, where no chlorine or any other chemicals will be used. Sort of a pool-lake like, creating that lake experience. The first of it's kind in the state. It is not the Canadian Rockies or the majestic plains of the Serengeti - It is a park in North Mpls, a historical park and it is breathtaking during the summer.

Peeking at this place on Google maps it didn't look like much, but I gave it a shot; I'm quite glad I did! Part of why I'd been unsure was because it does have a relatively small footprint of the landscape (it doesn't even encompass the entire lake, as many houses have backyards around more than half the shore... boo). But, they made up for it with a really nice visitor center and art installations! Honestly, I'd say this place wouldn't be half as good without the outdoor art walk; I really enjoyed discovering all the unique and fun sculptures along the path. It meant I got a much more engaged and lengthy experience; I don't know if their longest path was much more than a mile's distance, but because of the sculptures I kept venturing off the paved path to check them out up close (and take photos and selfies with each)! It was fun. There seemed to be two parking lots. The one near the visitor center was pretty large and seemed to be necessary; there were quite a lot of visitors there when I was, plus a school bus! Most of the visitors seemed to be there to enjoy some skating around out on the frozen lake, but others were walking the trail. Inside the visitor center were bathrooms, including a family restroom, water fountains, including a water bottle refill station, cute little trinkets to buy, a cafe with beverages and bakery snacks, a cozy seating area, lots of rooms for community events, a board advertising said community events for the next couple months, and an art exhibit. I was grateful for the easy access to bathrooms and water! Just outside the visitor center was one of the most adorable little free libraries I've ever seen, nestled inside a mushroom-like sculpture! All in all, definitely worth checking out. Unless you lived nearby, you probably wouldn't go too repeatedly (I think the indoor art exhibit changes seasonally, but the outdoor one has been installed awhile... one of the plaques read 2018), but it's great for a one-off or occasional visit!

You may need to street park and walk. The playground is colorful and has lots of fun equipment. I noticed there are definitely wheelchair accessible items for kids to play on. The ground is a mix of rubber and wood chips. There is a volleyball court, basketball court, fishing dock and public grills. There are also indoor bathrooms and a filtered water bottle station. I was very impressed with how well maintained this park seems to be! There is a beach here, however geese have taken it over and there was a ton of poop all over the sand. I would not swim here. If you haven't checked this park out yet, you need to! Your kids will love it! The ice cream truck also makes stops here!

Hiked the dirt trail through the woods and was surrounded by nature. An adventure! All we have left to try here is the golf course. Several of my neighbors golf it every week and are fans. It is well kept and a beautiful setting. They even have carts for rent.

Brookdale Park is a nice area with various trails to walk/ travel along that connect to nearby…read moreparks. I enjoy walks on this trail, with its many sights and beauty in nature. Spotting little turtles is a fun time, as well as ducks along the water. Even watching the seasons change reflected around us is a joy to me. Just a little bit of time spent here is a great way to refresh yourself and also enjoy one of the many parks/ nature Minnesota has to offer!! As a dog owner, I appreciate the consideration and accessibility this space has for our furry friends to enjoy as well. There are dog trash bags along the trail, and many garbage bins for disposal, making this a great location to walk your dog!

It is a wonderful place to see wildlife. Wildlife including otter, deer, fish, birds and beautiful wetlands abounds! Shingle Creek flows in to fills ponds and makes its way to Palmer Lake. LOVE!
