I have seen Dr. Wallshein three times. Today is the last time. Every visit takes about three hours. When you see Wallshein, there is no greeting; absolutely no interest in the patient. Today started with "Let's look.' He dictates notes to the assistant and starts to leave. I had to stop him so I could ask if my condition had changed. His response? "No much." And then he is out the door. He has the bedside manner of a lump of coal. I have no idea if he is any good. I have never had a conversation with him. read more

Not only is Dr. Jay Wallshein an arrogant twit who will keep you waiting for over two hours after your appointed time, he will tell you that he doesn't make any money on Medicare patients. He will then charge you an extra $75 for a refraction (your prescription). Yesterday, I input my prescription into Zenni to order new eyeglasses by the end of the year and it triggered an error response. Not only had the good (ha ha) doctor written a prescription for a far-sighted woman, (+ in front of the number), the numbers were exactly opposite of what my previous (fabulous) eye doctor in California had prescribed! I left a message for Dr. Wallshein and told him that I expected to hear back from him or I would write bad reviews. I got a call from someone in his office who barely spoke English. Apparently, his time is too valuable to speak to his patients. On my second appointment at this office, it looked like they were ready to make me play the same waiting game and make me pay for the privilege. The staff is rude and arrogant. I asked them why I had an appointment to begin with. They told me to speak to the tiny little man who takes payments. He was extremely rude. I told the staff that they were all rude. Little man told me to leave. I told them I would never be back. Skip this joker. I highly recommend Florida Vision with offices in Port St. Lucie, Stuart, West Palm Beach, etc. They are professional, friendly, and did a great job on my cataracts years ago and following a retina problem that I had back then. And they treat you well even if you are on Medicare/Medicaid. read more

I had a particular problem that was not solved at three other medical practice offices. I kind of think that a lot of other practices are just into doing surgery but not doing diagnostic testing and determining what the problems are. After a few exams, we have a final diagnosis that made sense. I followed the treatment plan and I got better. I was sitting out on the waiting room during one of the visits and I said to the patient next to me I can't believe the wait it's really long. The woman next to me said I've been going to this doctor for 15 years and it hasn't changed. In fact the doctor continues to get busier. I asked her if it was really worth it, and the answer I got back I've been going here 15 years because I know there is no better care. They are the most thorough, and Dr Wallshein. He really cares. He always asks how I'm doing and the family, and he's a very kind individual. Perhaps the GOAT. read more

They are playing games with my medications. Ordering meds I do not use like avastin. Then I get billed for it. Dr Raduns assistant Braxton. I owe 240$ because they are ordering a drug I don't need. Dr. wallshein sold this business a few years ago as it closed another office. It must be eating him to see the ship sinking. The best doctor was Dr. Tollentino. The remaing 2 had no idea how to treat my damaged eye. Plus doing eye exams for glasses to add $$ to the bill. I now use a retina specialist service and another practice. read more

Horrifying! First they scheduled a procedure to remove a tumor on my eyelid, then when I arrived they left me sitting in the waiting room for 1.5 hours as they began to close up. Then they came to get me to say it was too late in the day to do the procedure and I had to come back. I rescheduled, and they told me I had to be there a half hour early. I did so, and then they left me waiting for 2 hours. Then they lost the biopsy so I never got the results. Rather than taking responsibility and apologizing, they were trying to blame the lab. When I told them I was not surprised they lost the biopsy sample because my entire experience with them has been that they were completely incompetent, they said that the people who schedule appointments are supposed to tell everyone to expect no less than a two-hour wait every time they come. Are you kidding me? Spare yourself the total and complete incompetence, rudeness and lack of caring and go elsewhere. This place is a joke. read more

My husband and I have been patients at Dr Wallshein's Practice for several years. This past March 2020 we experienced several serious issues. Beginning with the front desk, we were charged out of pocket for our eye exams even though our Medicare plan covers it in full each year. Once we discovered their error, we asked for a refund. They had overcharged the previous year too. It was not easy to get last year's money refunded. Another issue is that the eye exams were conducted by technicians rather than optometrists. I was experiencing dry eyes and was tested for it ( I had to pay out of pocket for it) and the doctor spent our entire time with him telling us about the three sets of washer dryers he was buying to put into his new house. I didn't realize at first but he was shopping for them on the computer when I thought he was looking at the results of my test! He then told me I needed a special treatment for my dry eyes that would cost $950 (out of pocket) and I would have to do it every three years. I asked about whether wearing an eye mask was a contributing factor for the dry eyes and whether wiping the mask with an alcohol wipe was a good way to clean it. He actually started yelling at me and speaking condescendingly to me! I'm 67 years old. I've never had a doctor do that! When I asked about the pressure in my eyes (glaucoma testing) he dismissed it with a wave of his hand and said "no problem," which in so many words said to me than he couldn't be bothered. I have been to many doctors in my lifetime. My experience with Dr. Wallshein stands out as one of THE most unprofessional and aggravating medical experiences of my life. read more

In four visits and money spent on treatments and medications, he said he mixed there in the office and he said I needed, I still have the problem. I can't see out of the $600 I spent on glasses either even after paying twice for an eye exam. I can see better without them per the new doctor I saw yesterday for the same eye problem. If you have all the time in the world and you don't mind waiting in the waiting room at least 40 minutes after your scheduled time, this practice is for you. I have been seeing a doctor in this practice for 4-1/2 years and this seems to be their procedure. Schedule a patient and then make him wait before one of the technicians finally begin the examination. Im looking for a new doctor that has more respect for their patients' time. read more

I am a continuing patient of this office, having previously paid several thousand dollars out of pocket for eye surgery. Nevertheless, when I arrived at the Lake Worth office on 03/22/21for a scheduled appointment I was advised for the first time by 2 clerks that I must pay $120 before i could see Dr. Wallshein for a non-refraction consultation, because they were uncertain whether or not I had met my Medicare/Supplement deductible. No such advance payment charge had been advised by staff at the time that I had made the appointment. They refused my suggestion that the office just bill me should my insurance coverages decline to pay, so I left. Unless you enjoy being treated like a head of cattle or a customer at a fast food restaurant by your doctor's office staff, avoid this unprofessional business practice. read more

I am totally unhappy with my recent visit: 1. My primary care physician's office informed me that they had sent a referral to Palm Beach Eye Center and thst they would contact me with appointment information. I waited a week and heard nothing from them I then got a copy of the referral and called your office for an appointment. A. I was told that a referral wasn't necessary. B. When questioned why I needed an appointment, I quoted directly from the referral the TOS codes and descriptions. 1.H25.819 (0) Combined firms of age-related cataract, unspecified eye; 2. H02.839 (0) Dermatochalasis of unspecified eye, unspecified eyelid C. When I finally saw Dr. Wallshein he told me: 1. That I needed cataract surgery on both eyes. He would operate on one eye at a time. He also stated that he only performed laser surgery at a cost of $1500. per eye;0 2. He did not perform the eyelid procedure (which was one of the reasons for which I was sent there); 3. Since I couldn't afford his astronomical fee, he would refer me to another ophthalmologist, Dr. Mas-Ramitez at that same facility. I HAVE MORE COMPLAINTS!!!! read more

I was seen by Dr. Barish for dry eye syndrome. My first appointment was a couple of hours at least but I didn't have a long wait for my appointment. They did multiple tests to diagnose the dry eye and I liked Dr. Barish. My follow up appointment a month later ended without seeing the doctor because I waited for an hour and a half and finally had to leave because I had another appointment elsewhere. Today I am back and here I sit, my appointment was at 10:30 and I'm still waiting for an hour and fifteen minutes and counting. I will not return here again. The wait time is ridiculous. read more

I went today to Palm Beach Eye Center and had the pleasure of being a patient of Dr. Alma Mas-Ramirez . She was great with answering my questions. I never felt rushed. I had a cyst removed from my eyelid and she was gentle. She answered all of my questions and had a great bedside manner. Went there to get a prescription for new glasses that I was going to by elsewhere online. Even though I told the first person I saw there that, that was all I was there for and she went back up to the front desk to clarify that because she was not aware of that, they still charged me $70 dollars, which I knew before hand but also charged my insurance company $432 on top of that. read more

I normally go to the Wellington office, however I had to go to the Lake Worth office for a eyeglass prescription check as a new pair of glasses seemed off. I waited about 1/2 hour, not bad for an ophthalmology practice. I met Dr. Berger, who checked my paperwork and the glasses. He said they matched however he then took the time to completely re-do my eye prescription check and discovered the script was a hair off (done by a tech last time). They will get the glasses redone for no charge! Also my sunglasses as I had put new lenses in them based on that old prescription. Giving them 1 star is being way to gracious. 1st appointment after waiting 3 weeks, after sitting in the waiting area for 1/2 Hour, I was informed that they were going to have to reschedule the appointment. The second appointment after waiting an additional two weeks they kept me waiting for over an hour past the scheduled appointment time and had to leave because of prior commitments. The third and final appointment they were running late and additional half an hour then I was seen by a technician rather than the Doctor Who is extremely unprofessional. After the hard-sell of services which should be included in a normal annual visit I was then shuttled into a different office and sat there a half an hour without the doctor as much as acknowledging me and believe it or not he was in the next office his cell phone rang and he then proceeded to take the call went into another room and spoke on the phone for 15 minutes. After the doctor finished the call he went back into the original office but again failed to even acknowledge my presence after all that time....I got up and walked out !! I have been a patient of Dr. Wallshein for many years but I believe it is time to look elsewhere. The practice is now owned by a cooperation and is being run like a factory. Tests are done by different technicians...you see the doctor for maybe 5 mins...and you could wait for hours in the waiting room. I use to highly recommend him but I just don't feel the same...he has really changed and not for the better. Sad to say. read more

I had taken a friend to another eye doctor who had treated him very poorly. We were able to see Dr. Alma Mas-Ramirez for a second opinion. I am so happy that we did. The office staff was wonderful. The initial intake was extremely well done by a lovely assistant who treated my friend extremely well. Thenwe met Dr. Mas-Ramirez and she is wonderful. She did a very detailed examination and found 2 problems that had been missed by the other doctor. She gave an explanation of her findings and then went over her suggestions for ongoing treatment. he was not rushed out of the office and had all of his questions fully answered. When an eye doctor waits for you on a Friday even when you're running 30 minutes late for an appointment, you know you have a winner. I found Palm Beach Eye Center to get a second opinion and get my condition resolved. They were able to fit me in Friday for their last appointment of the day. Still I ran late but a call to their front desk staff ensured me that they'd wait. They also called back to make sure I was in fact coming, and even went to the parking lot to help me find a spot. That's customer service! Dr. Wallshein was the first to see me for screening. his patience, conversation, and answering all my medical questions made the torturous experience of eye drops and eye probes that much easier. The medical assistant finished by explaining how to take the drops and the treatment plans. She also stated I could sit and wait in the comfortable lobby until the dreaded drops cleared out. This is one of those 5 star places I hope to never have to use again, but if my eyes do give me trouble I'll make the trip Palm Beach Eye Center. read more

Too bad I can't give ZERO stars! I wish that I was able to review Dr. Barish, but I never got the chance to meet him. I arrived and signed in at 10:30am for my 10:40 appointment. After 15 minutes of no attention, I went up to the desk to request "New Patient" paperwork. When I handed it to them around 10:50am, I was told that the average time in the office was 1.5-2 hours. I was called to the desk at around 12:00pm, at which time someone had FINALLY read my paperwork and realized that I was not only there for an eye exam, but a contact lens fitting. I was told that they only have an optometrist in office to do the lens fitting once a week. Since I had told the appointment taker what my needs were, AND I had written it down on my paperwork, I would have expected someone in the front office to notice this before I spent so much time in the waiting room. Completely disorganized and mismanaged. I will never attempt to enter that office again. Wasted my entire morning. read more

Waited over 2 1/2 hours to see my doctor to get the results of a test that I waited over an hour to take. Was told by receptionist that I was next, but then they called another person in front of me. When I said something, the owner of the practice came out. We went into another room, and told me "this is the way the practice is, they are not gonna change, and if i don't like it I can go somewhere else." So I did. If you don't mind waiting, one of the doctors in this practice, Wayne Barish, M.D. is excellent. I would highly recommend him. The practice, not so much. LONG WAIT AND IMHO THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT MAKING YOU WAIT AND THE OWNER HAD A HUGE ATTITUDE! read more

I've had dry eyes for years, and been to many other physicians in the area that prescribed basic treatments with minimal or no effect. Sadly I had been doing this when I could have been getting the best care early on. My error. I read some reviews on here about lipiflow and the doctor prescribing it and negativity. All that is false and over played. My glands were 50 percent gone and my tear production was so bad I'd wake up in the middle of the night with pain and eyes stuck together. When I saw the good doctor I had been given many options including lipiflow and autologous serum. I said forget the cost and just tell me what I need. He said Lipiflow and serum but let's do one first and see if we can get you to normal. That's a good man. I felt much better after Lipiflow and then decided to do serums. Then i felt like I was 18 again and now wind blows in my face and I love it. I would highly encourage anyone that reads reviews to found out how many patients the doctors did procedures on and get their opinions. When I was in the waiting room everyone was chatting and you can see these people love Dr Wallshein. Even my primary care doctor recommends him. After waiting for over TWO HOURS, the technician taped my aunt's eyes open while she proceeded to try to "find a vein" to administer the dye by injection -- after she did a couple "tries" -- which entails pricking her with a needle, I stood up and said " are her eyes just taped open?" She responded that she couldn't administer the dye, run the test and hold her eye lids. Probably due to my expression-- she called another technician for "help" and had her find the vein. Also, the more people complained or attempted to reschedule-- the faster they were tended to. Nightmare really. read more

Dr. Mas is a new glaucoma specialist in the area and she is very thorough! She answered all of our questions and created a treatment plan that has me feeling like my eyes are being well taken care of! The techs were also wonderful and I felt very well taken care of. Good eye care once you actually get in to see the dr but 3- 4 stops along the way. Herded through the office like cattle with little flow or organization. Appt time doesn't seem to matter. With such a large staff there should be more flow and time for patient consideration. read more

I just wanted to write about my experience at Palm Beach Eye Center. It's a beautiful office, and I thought my examination was very thorough and satisfactory. However, I was very displeased with their charging practices. I'm not cheap, but I had a couple of pictures taken of my eyelid for precautionary purposes with a DIGITAL camera, and I was charged $90. That alone almost made it where I didn't want to return, but they scheduled a quick in and out appointment after 2 months, to make sure the tag on my eyelid didn't grow. Normally with most Doctors I've been to, this type of quick check appointment would be at no additional charge. Palm Beach Eye Center wanted to charge me $130 for this visit. I cancelled my appointment on the spot, and walked out. Maybe this is what they need to charge to be able to pay for a beautiful office, what looks like excessive staff, and taking their entire staff on a cruise recently, but I will not be gouged in this manner. I have been a patient at the Palm Beach Eye Center since the Dr. Sugarman days and am growing increasingly frustrated with the ridiculous wait times and expensive care options being offered. I was at the office for over 3 hours for the last two appointments. While the techs take you back sporadically for various tests, you mostly just sit and wait. At my last appointment, I was diagnosed with dry eye and told that the best new treatments included some ridiculously expensive ($900 I think) eye massage therapy that was not covered by insurance and a blood serum (equally expensive) treatment that was also not covered by insurance. I sat through several tests that were also not covered by insurance and am now wondering if my diagnosis was just presented as a way to pay for expensive new machines. I am now looking for a new eye doctor. While I realize that the long wait times are becoming standard for eye care, the last diagnose and treatment plan was the proverbial straw that broke this camel's back. read more
