One of my favourite beaches of all time, Palm Beach on Waiheke is perhaps the most glorious place to swim in New Zealand. With its terrain providing almost daily shelter from any rogue weather conditions, nothing can beat this beach on a sunny, clear day.
I always liken the beach to swimming pool, with the water clarity and stillness second to none. While not a steep beach, you can quickly find yourself in chest deep water, and you could be forgiven for thinking you were in your very own pool. If visited on the weekend make sure to visit an authentic French (I think) crepe cart at the right hand end of the beach.
