This is a beautiful and free site to see while sight-seeing in Marseille. The water features, fountains, falls, etc are all stunning! The only issue is all the HORRIBLE GRAFFITI everywhere... these people and their graffiti are ridiculous!!! Sorry, but I don't care about their political messages, trials, tribulations... they're destroying thousands of years of amazing history and architecture with this mess, they need to stop! Once you overlook the modern-age messes, you'll enjoy the story of the water supply coming into town and this tribute. It's still worth visiting and taking plenty of pics of!

The Palais Longchamp is ideally located in Marseilles . As well as being an architectural beauty, the venue is often used for jazz festivals and other live music events!! Surrounded by the stunning Longchamp Garden - Palais Longchamp is also the home of the Marseille Museum of Natural History (Muséum d'histoire naturel de Marseille) and the Marseilles Museum of Fine Art (Musée des beaux-arts de Marseille). Definitely worth a visit if you are in Marseilles

I was thoroughly disappointed that this historical monument was closed and scheduled for demolition. The Palais Longchamp was my favorite hangout when I was a teenager. The gardens were immaculately maintained and the majesty of the park with its history was unique to me and millions of others. For all of that to be given away to the blandness of apartment buildings is a slap in the face for all. The Mairie of Marseille should be ashamed of themselves for being a sellout.

This was a stop on our excursion and I wasn too blown away. I get the history and the importance it once held but it looks poorly maintained and dirty. Additionally, there are no facilities to utilize, so you have to depend on the hospitality of businesses around the park. I was fortunate to be allowed in after purchasing something, others were not so fortunate.

First, the walk to get here, down Blvd Longchamps, resembles a smaller version of the Champs Elysse in Paris. The entire route is tree-lined and you pass all the upscale shops (Dior, Lanvin, etc.) along the way. The architecture of the structure is beautiful! The palace is actually a water tower that was constructed in the 1800s to provide clean water to the city. It now houses two museums-the fine arts museum and the museum of natural history. At the entrance is a beautiful sculpture of tigers and lions. Behind the structure is a lovely botanical garden, perfect for a stroll. You really do forget you are in France's second largest city! The fountain, unfortunately, was being reconstructed during our visit, but this was still a great spot to come to in order to relax during the heat of the day.

Incredible structure placed in the middle of the city, we only got to stop to see it from the outside for 5 minutes but it was still incredible. Massive structures, buildings, sculptures, and water falls that all look incredibly amazing. I can only imagine what they have to offer if you got admission to see inside, there seems to be a lot of history behind this. I believe it talks about the importance of water to a society. Simply said, but it comes with a lot of thought and meaning.

Def worth going if you are in marseille! Some reasons and highlights: -get out of the tourist filled vieux port -magnificent fountain with lots of children -cute "zoo" -small shops and cafes around this park -close to the train station -just a quiet place to chill Hands down, one of my favorite spots in marseille! Keen to come back some day! If you are staying in vieux port or around that area, i would suggest walking here. It is about 2-3k, but you get to see a lot of cute little shops and cafes as you walk towards this park!

This is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Marseille! There are two entrances, one through the park which is closest to the 5 Avenue Longchamp metro, and another from turning right once you get out of the metro and walking a little bit following the signs. I highly suggest the second entrance view from the street. Then you can walk up towards the fountains and walk down through the park! There are a couple of museums and also a planetarium! They close around 6 pm though! The palace and park stay open at different times according to the season. I went in March and it closes at 7pm then. Do it!

The museum promotes local artists from Provence and has a small but very varied collection of art from local artist - photographs, paintings and sculptures in different materials. Walking through the collection hardly takes more than 15 minutes, if you take a bit of time to study a few of the artworks that you like. None of the text in the exhibits are in English, only French, which does somewhat limits the output for a non-French speaker, but it is none the less interesting to have a look around. The museum is housed in what was previously a sanitary station built in 1948 at a time when it was almost obsolete before it was finished. A 45-min film (it's just as much an art installation as a film) tells a bit about the history of the place. It's really interesting and worth the extra charge to see. But it is not the least bit critical, so bring your own skepticism and notice both the religious references and processing of people as if they were cattle - a bit like going through airport security in France today except there is no DDT involved.

I loved the local people selling their quality goods in tents in 2005. Now there were locals selling fresh fish, which was nice, but not something I was interested in purchasing. We ate mussels, pomme frites and drank champagne. It was a perfect afternoon!!! I was disappointed that it was pretty difficult to find fresh baked bread and pastries in Marseilles. There were a couple "chain" looking places. I had been looking so forward to strolling the streets eating french bread and munching on pastries as I did in 2005. :( It was a bummer. But I was full from my delicious lunch there. We realized there was a whole shopping section we missed. Some fun people from the ship we met and ran into made us aware. Time was limited at this point but we managed to check out their mall. It was tres chic!!! Marseilles is simply beautiful with all their boats and the blue, blue water.
