We were on our way back to Amarillo from Palo Duro Canyon and in need of a serious caffeine boost. We stumbled upon this place at the last minute, but I can't tell you just how happy I am that we did. What an unexpectedly amazing coffee shop! Based on the written recommendations on the chalkboard behind the counter, I went for the Salted English Toffee Late. It was a bit of a gamble, as I could have been overwhelmed with sugar, but I tend to trust the baristas, and I'm so glad that i did! Patrick absolutely knew what he was doing. The toffee flavor was present but not overwhelming, and the sweetness was so subtle but just enough to prevent any need for additional sugar - far better than what you get from certain "chain" coffee shops that will not be named here. Even my boyfriend, who is not a fan of sweets at all, was blown away by the final product. Palace Coffee Company would stand out among others in any major city, and yet, there it is in the middle of the square in Canyon, TX. Check it out if you're rolling through. This amazing coffee shop is worth a visit. The staff is very personable and friendly. They make a variety of coffees including pour overs that are as fresh as can be. Don't forget to visit the back room which has a wall painting that covers Texas to Santa Fe. There is also a chandelier and a variety of seating arrangements. We stopped by Palace Coffee during a trip to Palo Duro. We saw it had a solid five-star average and needed a caffeine boost. It's located on the courthouse square in Canyon, which makes for a great view while sipping on some joe. The inside is sparse, but modern. There were a lot of students on Saturday morning studying and writing papers. But the coffee is what's important. Palace Coffee is REALLY good at what they do. They could hold their own in Houston, a city full of great coffee places. Palace probably has the best coffee for at least 300 miles around. Five stars, easy. read more

Palace in Canyon had gone downhill over the last year. The downtown location in Amarillo had a better feel to it and honestly was better. I'm not sure why but it's always just better. Over the last year the service and product has gone downhill. The last time will be the last time in this coffee shop. The two young ladies were just flat rude. They had their noses up in the air so high I could have sworn I was in junior high again and watching the stuck up girls think they were the best. The girl that took the order was just rude. Short and snippy. Not how I enjoy a face to face with an order. It almost throws you off. You walk up with a smile expecting a "good day how can I help you?" We got more of a "what the heck do you want?" The order was correct and the coffee good but not to the standard I'm used to here. After a good while of sitting and talking we were lied to by the other girl saying they were closed and they never are close that early. I found it interesting that they served the person that walked in after we left. Unacceptable. They get a 1 star because of the pathetic and rude service as well as the ok product. Palace Coffee in Canyon is like my second home and has been since the fall of the year it opened. I've known the owner since I was a seventh grader and he's a man who is interested in the lives of his people, which is nice to support. The seasonal drinks are interesting and yummy, far more thoughtful than those found at a Starbucks. I really dig the vibe here, and love to park at a table and work on something or read while sipping a coconut milk Chai latte (which was a recommendation from one of the baristas when I poured about how gross milk makes me feel). The baristas are fun and lively and give great recommendations (I may be biased, they're predominantly dear friends). They also sell very cute merch- I love a fun mug. read more

A great place for Canyon, Texas! The Coffee culture in West Texas has been pretty limited and Patrick and his crew are committed to growing it here. They offer great product and are knowledgeable about everything they sell. If you ask any Barista anything, about your drink they will know everything about it and how it made it to your cup and are more than happy to explain. They have a separate room in back to study if you want to escape the noise from the back, I'm also a sucker for design and I love the big store front windows that let a lot of natural light in. My wife and I stayed in Canyon to visit the Palo Duro Canyon, and we were pleasantly surprised to find this place! The shop is clean and cool, and has a college town / hipster vibe. The baristas are so nice and friendly, willing to answer questions or give you recommendations. They have a specials menu with unique drink options, such as cold brew and Dr. Pepper, or and Old-Fashioned Cold Brew (complete with orange bitters and a candied cherry). I have heard and read almost nothing but good things about this coffee shop in the past. I went in recently and ordered a cappuccino. The baristas weren't skilled and my espresso tasted burnt and ashy. The milk was far too hot and foamy for a proper cappuccino. I decided to give it another shot tonight but when I went in the person who I believed to be the owner (reading reviews and blogs online led me to this assumption) was not paying any attention to what was going on on his bar. He had his head buried in a grinder that he seemed to be attempting to repair. Again, I had heard nothing but good about how friendly and heads-up this man and his baristas were on bar and when I walked in tonight not only was I not greeted, the environment seemed very uptight and rigid. Went to enjoy the Canyons farmers market and I brought my dog, I got up to line and was asked if she was a service dog. I said no, the guy/girl (I couldn't tell) said I can't have my dog in here..I stated well I don't have anyone else with me to watch her and you don't have a drive thru so how could I have gotten coffee from you? When I first heard about Palace, I was skeptical. It's the panhandle of Texas and you just don't think of it being any kind of coffee mecca. But I kept hearing about it from people all over, and while on my way to Colorado, we decided to make a stop. Well...the rumors are true. These guys are serious about their coffee. You can tell they have a high value on training and knowledge while also being fantastic customer service representatives. I lost my phone in a crack in the wall in a freak accident, and the barista helped me to recover it, all while my two year old was doing what two year olds do when they aren't being fully focused on.
