My husband and I stayed at a unit here via Airbnb (unit 215) owned by "Julie" from Aug 8-11. Instead of warning us about the power outage or wildfires, she just told us "Maui is crazy right now" and gave us the instructions to enter the unit. Upon arrival we were unable to leave for 4 days due to fire blockage and road closures. During this time we had no power, minimal food and minimal water. The host Julie left no flashlight or any emergency supplies in the unit so we were left in the dark for our entire forced stay. We had to leave a night early due to a new wildfire starting and slept in our car at a safe distance from West Maui. When we asked for a partial refund we received no reply from Julie. Instead she went on to write us a terrible review on BNB even tho we left the apartment immaculate. Please see photos of texts and her review for reference. Very irresponsible property owner with zero empathy. Julie is clearly more focused on getting her money than the safety of her tenants. We will be reporting to Airbnb directly.

We had a very lovely stay, and I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for a nice quiet place to relax, but also enjoy a clean, and million-dollar view. Ask for Jason, and I know you won't be disappointed. He went above and beyond in making sure we had a very warm welcome in Hawaii and the condo had everything we needed but also left us a bottle of wine, some chocolates, and macadamia nuts to enjoy during our stay. They take great pride in making sure their property is up to par, and they even fixed the hot tub that was down the first day we arrived. By the 2nd day, it was up and running. It's worth it to book your stay here and get an ocean view, as you won't be disappointed!

We stayed in unit 420. While the unit is updated the bedding was stained and dingy and one of the bath towels left for us to use had some sort of blue gunk stuck to it. I found a dead roach in the room and the instructions say to take the trash out each night and put all food in the refrigerator so they are aware of their pest problem. There was a rat by the swimming pool and large roaches in the pool. The no AC was pretty uncomfortable. The only way to get any airflow is to have the front and back door open but since that's not possible at night it gets uncomfortable. Some units have a screen door on the front door but this unit did not. I would not stay at this place again. The lawn by the ocean was the only nice part. The stairs down to the water are still blocked off.

The check-in time is 3 pm. We arrived at the hotel around 3:10 pm, but we were told the room was being cleaned, and we can wait right here. No apologies. We waited for about 10 min, got the key and checked into our room, 5 min later, someone was trying to open the door with a key desperately, I'm not sure if he was trying to knock or break in. We opened the door, he said he was here to deliver a brochure. One side of the hotel room is against a solid wall, every room is in darkness without naturallight, no windows what-so-ever, the garden view has no view basically. You sit on the couch and view the wall. We got into the kitchen, and there lays a Huge cockroach on the floor, dead on its back (remind you, this was right after the room was being cleaned). I called the front desk to request another room, the front desk gentleman who checked us in, Mr. Leonardo said "Ok, tomorrow." No apologies. I paid the total in full through Expedia, but the hotel charges a processing and check-out cleaning fee for over $200 (hidden fee.) You can request for the cleaning service, about $75-$95 each time. Otherwise, there is no cleaning service for our 7 day stay. If you want clean towels, pay $18 to exchange, or wash them yourself at the common laundry facility. Unfortunately, this is DEFINITELY not the hotel that I would recommend. We've been to Maui over 7 times, stayed at a different hotel every time, so far, this one is very disappointing.

With the prices in Maui , this place was a deal. Somewhere to rest your head at night . Full kitchen with all the supplies you will need. Our unit (326) had upgraded baths, and a washer and dryer (not all of them had this ). My only complaint was it does not have air conditioning, and the master bedroom mattress was old (sunk in the middle, hurt my back). The location was good , few blocks from major grocery store , and a small strip of restaurants. The complex itself is along the shore line of the ocean with some lawn chairs to sit out there . Kaanapali strip is about 2 to 3 miles up the road . We had a "partial ocean view " which meant step out on the balcony and turn your head to the left and you can see the ocean .

Beware of the heat The advertised pics looked great, upon arrival everything looked fantastic. Unfortunately, the temperature was high and the humidity was terrible. I think most people would think that staying in a place right next to the ocean would make a difference with the temperature and humidity, it does not! The point is, there is no Air Conditioning in this place. If you like comfort, this place is not for you. With high temps and humidity, many sleepless nights followed. My children complained about stuffy rooms and not being able to breath. This place was also advertised as a resort. It is not a resort to say the least. Yes, people do come here to vacation, but this place had more of a motel atmosphere. The ONLY amenity is the pool/hot tub. There is no weight room, game room, spa facility or dining you would find at most resorts. Why do I say it's like a motel? That's because you are on your own. There is no assistance from the front desk whatsoever. We needed clean towels, so we called the desk. Their reply, wash them yourselves. They do supply a community washer/dryer, but there is no coin machine or detergent. So get lots of quarters and shop for detergent. We wanted the room cleaned. Sorry sir, we don't do that. Be prepared to purchase toilet paper and paper towels because you will be supplied with the bare minimum. The advertised price of the room is misleading. After special fees and cleaning services are added, the price averaged $300/night. For that price, 99 out of 100 places offer AC and daily cleaning services.

Dirty sheets , Dirty pillows !! And no apologies for these two
Marilu A.

My stay in Maui was a dream except for the hotel room. The first night when we arrived we found the bed smelling like old dirty sheets and a pillow was clearly dirty with what looked like old stains or mold (who knows) anyway we complained to a lady at the front desk I showed her my picture of the pillow and she send it to her phone and showed her manager , then she looks at me and asks me , "what do you want us to do?" ... I told her I wanted a different room with a clean bed , she said they can't do that because they are full , I stead she sent another person to give us new pillows and sheets , the new bedding smelled bad but not as bad as the first one . One more thing the living room light wasn't working and they took two days to fix it , the dish washer was not working either , we were very disappointed . They didn't apologize to us for any of these . Also there is a $177 cleaning fee that was added to us when we checked in but was not included when we payed online through Travelocity , ugh!! On top of that they DO NOT CLEAN YOUR ROOM until you leave ! You have to pay extra for that . I loved Maui but I would not recommend this place to anyone

This is not a hotel. There is no front desk service after the work day ends. There is no security. Carpet in the rooms which is nuts in this humid climate. This place is basically an apartment complex. The whole facility is worn out. Word - dilapidated.

Nice tile work. My 10 year old could have done better

Wow what a dump. The problem is that these units are owner owned. So none of these units have a consistency, some or ok and some are dumps. I'll never rent here again. I would rather pay a little more and not have filth and cockroaches. You would think that the so called paki Maui resort would have some sort of rules forcing owners to keep their property clean, up to date and maintained. We'll be back to Maui in a few more months, and we know we're not to stay.

First of all, when considering this property and sorting though other reviews, it's important to know the Paki Maui has several different management companies, with Castle Resorts being the largest. Others are private owners listing on VRBO, Aston (6 rooms), and small companies with only a couple of rooms. We booked through the Castle Resorts website and stayed in room 209, managed by them. Therefore, my review of the actual room can only speak to our experience in # 209 and the common areas. Unfortunately #209 is very dated and hasn't been touched since the place was built. Appliances are old but functioning, the paint and carpet faded, the TV's super vintage, and the most disappointing fact-- the bed was only a double (not a queen) and was beat. There was a foam pad placed on top of the mattress to try and fake it into being more pleasant, but it was not possible to sleep for more than a couple hours before being uncomfortable. Finally, the pillows were pitiful and pilly. I could hold it with one hand and my fingers would touch. I asked the front desk repeatedly for a different or more pillows and they said they didn't have any and the owner needed to replace it. I can handle old decor for the reasonable price we paid, but I want a good nights sleep. Overall the resort is well maintained and IS located right on the ocean. There are a couple (dead) reefs out front and some sand, although the surf was very high so it wasn't really "beachfront", but I heard during other times of the year there is more beach. The best part of the resort is the lovely green lawn bordering the ocean. There's plenty of loungers and people come and go throughout the day with little fan faire. It's super laid back and the other guests were mostly snow birds. In terms of convenience there is a local market a block away, an ABC a block the other direction, and a larger grocery store about .5 mi away. In conclusion, the rooms at Paki Maui are a grab bag. The ocean front unit next to ours (also managed by Castle) was renovated and had all the modern features and look one would desire. I would definitely recommend booking a ocean front room (what we had) and if possible doing so on VRBO with a private owner or company so you know what your unit will look like. If the owner of #209 reads this, please renovate your unit. At the very least buy new pillows and a mattress. Mahalo

I'm not that hard to please BUT ....... Come on! Even motel 8 is ten times better. If I wanted the ocean view.....I'd rather go camping. First impression when I walked in was the holes in the curtain. The curtains in both living and bedroom has large holes in it and besides the curtain is thinner then my underwear. (See pictures) Would not recommend for future stays

Castle resorts is the new mgmt co for their 49 rooms as of 9-1-13. A great value for the price. Fine location. No air conditioning, but you don't need it. Lovely pool, hot tub and gas bbqs. Ask for their best room, since some are being refurbished. Managers are good and activities desk person is super. Good neighborhood.

Oh Paki Maui, let me count the ways...... of how terrible the stay was at your resort. I had these Hawaiian pipe dreams, thinking in this day and age of Airbnb's taking over renters would be kind enough to update their hotels, condos, or whatever. If I could give you a piece of sage advice, rent a tent and stay on the beach. Save the money! Stay at the local Hostel! I'm no booshie, but come on now. If you're going to pay this type of money, you better be serving me mimosas poolside in the morning and rubbing my feet. Don't take my money and not give me my due. This was probably the worst "motel" I've stayed at since I was in college. The photos you see online are not the ones you will see in person. We were so "lucky" to have been given room #326. At the end of the hall, street side, partial ocean view with the lovely weed smoking neighbors and dump truck pick bright and early in the morning reminding us that we probably should stay on our Cali time zone. rolling my eyes. They do not clean your room and give you fresh towels or soap. On that note, we walked into the room after being out all day to a random swifter duster in the middle of the floor. Now we know there was no swifter in our room, because we looked everywhere for a broom. So where did this random swifter come from? Smh. I think I should dispute this credit card bill. What do you think?

But it does have a lot of other things going for it. Our favorite is the location to the boardwalk and the super easy access to the most beautiful beach. Perfect for morning walks. Snorkeling is incredible there. Also turtles, sometimes dolphins, monk seals and tons of whales during whale season. You have to pay $90 for two beach chairs and an umbrella. $36 for just an umbrella. Parking is $35 a night. It all adds up quickly. If you want a lounge chair at the pool, you have to get up by 5 AM to get the one you want. They have activities all day and live music most nights- really enjoyable to sit by the fit pit, watch the sunset and live. The rooms are hit and miss. Sometimes we get an ocean view where you can see a sliver of water. Another time we were next to their laundry units, which were loud. Other times we were ocean front and it was incredible to watch the whales. The little kitchenette is perfect. They are well stocked. And I love that you can do laundry. They clean the rooms every two days but you can ask for supplies if you need anything.

When we arrived, our villa contained power tools, dirty dishes, and had clearly not been properly prepared for guests. What was even more frustrating was that it took three separate face-to-face visits with both the front desk and management before the room was finally cleaned. Communication throughout the process was poor, and we never felt that anyone took real ownership of the issue. The only compensation offered was a $50 resort credit, which did not reflect the inconvenience or the time we spent trying to resolve a problem that should never have existed. Beyond our room, both the villas and many of the common areas felt worn, dingy, and lacking the level of care we have come to expect from the Westin brand. The most disappointing aspect of our stay wasn't simply the condition of the property--it was the apparent lack of urgency and concern from management. We have always associated Westin with quality, service, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, this experience fell well below those expectations. We hope management takes these concerns seriously because loyal owners and guests deserve much better.

Also love keypad entry so you don't have to remember your keys all the time esp when at beach or pool. Love the outdoor grills and beer fridges on the villa balconies. Areas of feedback for the property: We found many of the units to have been in mediocre condition and poorly maintained. Two units have broken a/c's and a third was just barely strong enough. Also had WiFi issues, broken bbq lids, non operational patio fans, broken dishwashers. In the common areas, the gym has a decent set of weight equipment, but is comically small, almost infuriatingly and dangerously so. Every morning and every evening before dinner it was just so packed, you could barely do your sets without bumping into somebody at the machine next to you To add to that, the gym's air conditioning was broken all week (who knows how long before that?) which added to the discomfort. I'm a pretty easy-going traveler and have no problem when a couple of these happen from time to time but seeing them all occur is a clear sign of poor management by the ownership. My TLDR here is it's a good property, but shows extremely poor management and excessive cost cutting, and ultimately becomes a subpar product until that's addressed.

Overall the spacious lush tropical grounds are beautifully maintained with two pools, a kiddie pool and two hot spas and featuring BBQ grills under a covered deck with chairs and tables. The whole complex is directly on the beach. There are no restaurant or bars on the property which is nice as it keeps crowds to a minimum. Unfortunately this visit fell well short. We rented two ninth floor villas, each with a different but beautiful view of the beach or the mountains. Unit 495 was a mountain facing two bedroom unit. It was clean, well maintained, probably recently renovated and up to the exemplary Kaanapali Ali'i standards we are used to. Unit 496 was an ocean facing villa showing it's age. One bathroom shower curtain showed spots of black mold. The lanai doors were incredibly hard to open requiring a maintenance person to come and repair them. The refrigerator ice/water dispenser leaked and there were stains from it and possibly something else down the front. Worst of all was the sickening smell of cigarette or possibly cigar smoke throughout the unit. This is unacceptable for a non smoking facility and quite unappealing. Electric air freshener units and odor disguising gel containers were provided but could only partly contain the smell in two of the bedrooms. The whole unit needs to be cleaned, sanitized and the lingering smoke scent removed. The bed in one of the bedrooms was regrettably very hard and painful for us to try to sleep on. Water to the entire complex had to be shutoff overnight for some kind of plumbing replacement work. Small plastic jugs of water were available at the front desk, this we found out by my son casually mentioning the inconvenience of the water shutoff to a facility staff member whi indicated that water would be delivered to the room upon request. When I called th efront desk, no delivery of this water to the room was available or offered. The outside bathrooms were under construction and we were directed to two porta potties, laughingly labeled as "Rest rooms", outside the buildings requiring a long walk to access. We should have been advised of this work before arriving as it was extremely inconvenient. The two large pools were getting shut down to access for maintenance or some other kind of issues. The two outside showers that are used to rinse off were unexpectedly shut down for a day so no rinsing off of sand. we noticed some younger guests simply entering the pools or spas with sand still over their feet and legs which resulted in a greta deal of sand at the bottom of the pools/spasOne night we attempted to access our two units only to finad all of our keys deactivated. The front desk could I understand any facility needs maintenance but having all this happen in the space of out two week stays was vey discouraging. I hope to return to Kaanapali Ali'i in the future but will definitely first be monitoring reviews and contacting the facility directly to try to determine what to expect. This is a discouraging turn in Maui vacation planning.

If I were to visit Maui again, or had friends/family visiting, would I recommend this place, NO…read more We booked a one bedroom condo and ended up with a studio; half of the bedroom wall was missing. When we inquired about our room and if it was correct, we were told it was and that some owners of the condos renovate the condos and they may not match the online postings exactly. We were very displeased with this and this is clearly false advertising. If I wanted a studio, I would have booked and paid for a studio. As a family, we had no privacy because of this and made the sleeping situation undesirable. We could also hear the people above us every night. At around 3am they would be up stomping around and you could hear everything. The rooms are supposed to be updated but I would not consider our room updated. There was no housekeeping. I had to call and request it but our room was only serviced once. Luckily we weren't charged, unlike other reviews I have seen. The larger pool was fine; definitely not resort style. But it could use some maintenance each day because the pool seemed dirty and not cleaned from the various people frequenting it each day. I would have given this place a one star but I gave it two stars due to: 1) the front desk staff we interacted with was very kind and helpful; truly so nice. 2) our kids enjoyed the morning hot cocoa 3) the location to the beach is nice and the beach was enjoyable 4) the walking path and proximity to local spots and hotels was convenient. But again, we were disappointed and would not stay here

The resort grounds were also really well kept and had a nice overall feel. The pool area is on the smaller side and there weren't a ton of lounge chairs, so that could get a little crowded. I did love that the resort is right on the beach, although the rentals for chairs, umbrellas, beach gear, etc. were a little pricey. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful, the property was well maintained, and the renovated rooms were a definite plus.

Our partial ocean view was exactly what the pictures showed on the website. A microwave or toaster would be a great item to add to the rooms, or at least near the vending machines on each floor. Beach access- BEAUTIFUL. so close. Constant views. The beach is seconds away from the resort. Maui brewing co also has ocean front views and was super nice for sunset. Resort- the pool was cleaned every morning and always warm. Plenty of seating options around the pool and around the resort in general. The vegetation was really nice. All staff were SO kind. The grounds always seemed clean and relaxing. Cultural classes- absolute favorite part of our trip. We had so much fun learning about the Hawaiian culture through story telling, history, garden walks, lei ceremony, lei making, and wood carving. Overall we had such an amazing experience, learned so much, and had constant beautiful views. Only complaint is that I wish there were more food options at our resort, or microwaves. Maui Brewing Co was okay, but limited. Whalers Village is a quick walk and has a variety of options.
