Went to PWAT with a group of friends and had the best time! Our instructor, Eileen/Blitz was energetic and supportive and gave great instructions that made it easy to follow along. Everyone left with a unique picture and a fun memory. Looking forward to coming back with my boyfriend! read more

Painting with a Twist - Art Classes Near Me - Newark, Delaware

I usually don't like writing negative reviews, but after our experience, I feel it's important to share what happened. A group of friends and I try to do something together about once a month, and we had originally scheduled a Valentine's Day Paint & Twist. Unfortunately, life happened, and we had to cancel. We were given a credit and were told it needed to be used by August 11. We rescheduled for August 1, but unfortunately, one of my friends had chemotherapy and wasn't feeling well, while I ended up in the emergency room with chest pain. We contacted the business that day, explained the circumstances, apologized, and completely understood if the credit could no longer be honored. The young lady we spoke with was extremely kind, understanding, and empathetic. She contacted the owner on our behalf and told us that the credit would be honored for all six people. Because we were told the six-person credit would be honored, we decided to invite three additional friends so that we could use the full credit. We felt it should be a girls night and leave the husbands at home. When we arrived, one other friend ended up coming along as well, making a total of seven people. We completely understood that this person was not included in the original credit, and we appreciated that they were able to accommodate the additional person, especially since reservations are required in advance. I also want to acknowledge Jake, who was absolutely phenomenal. He was professional, courteous, and genuinely tried to help us resolve the situation. He had only been scheduled for three people, so we explained that we had previously spoken with an employee who had contacted the owner and told us the six-person credit would be honored. Jake contacted the owner. Unfortunately, this is where our experience became very disappointing. The owner told us she was only honoring the credit for three people. We explained that there had apparently been a miscommunication, but that we had specifically spoken with an employee who had communicated with her and told us the six-person credit would be honored. What bothered me most was not the misunderstanding itself. I completely understand that this is a small business and that miscommunications can happen. What I found completely unnecessary was the way the owner spoke to my friend Donna. Donna calmly explained what had happened and reminded her that she had previously explained the circumstances surrounding her chemotherapy and my emergency room visit. Instead of simply acknowledging that there had been a miscommunication and working with us to resolve it, the owner became rude and confrontational and even told Donna that she didn't think she would want her coming back to the establishment. That was extremely disappointing. We were not demanding anything unreasonable. We were simply relying on what one of the employees had communicated to us after speaking with the owner. If there had been a misunderstanding, we would have understood. What we did not expect was for the conversation to become so hostile. I do want to give Jake credit because he was wonderful throughout the situation. We also appreciated that they accommodated the additional friend who came with us, even though that person was not part of our original reservation. Unfortunately, the owner's manner of handling the situation overshadowed what could have simply been an understandable misunderstanding. As a small business, customer service and the way you communicate with customers matter. We left disappointed--not because of the credit, but because of how my friend was treated. A difficult situation can be handled professionally and respectfully, even when there has been a misunderstanding. That was what we expected, and unfortunately, that was not our experience. read more

The owner of this business was incredibly rude, insensitive, and completely lacking in compassion. The only reason my group decided to stay and paint was because of the instructor, Jake, who was kind and professional throughout the situation. When I initially had to reschedule our appointment, I explained that I was undergoing breast cancer treatment and had received a double dose of chemotherapy a couple of days before. The treatment had taken a serious toll on my body, and I simply was not well enough to attend. Although the owner was snippy with me at the time, she ultimately agreed to the rescheduling. I thanked her and confirmed that the six people who had already paid would attend on the new date. On the rescheduled date, I unfortunately had to call again and ask for understanding because of another unexpected situation. My best friend, who was supposed to attend with us, had to be rushed to the emergency room. I was completely transparent with the employee who answered the phone and explained that I had previously needed to reschedule because of my chemotherapy. The employee spoke with the owner, and I was told that the owner authorized all SIX of us to come and paint on August 11. I expressed my apologies and gratitude. When we arrived to paint, the owner told the instructor that only three people would be allowed to paint. I then spoke with the owner directly, and she told me that she would only honor three painters and claimed that this information had been sent to me by email. I explained that, just as I had told her employee, I had recently undergone chemotherapy and did not have the opportunity to constantly check my email. I had also been traveling to New York to be with my sisters during this difficult time. Her employee had told me that she understood the circumstances and that everything was confirmed for six people on August 11. Instead of showing even a small amount of compassion or attempting to resolve the misunderstanding, the owner was extremely rude and disrespectful. She interrupted me, told me that she did not care about what I had discussed with her employee, and essentially dismissed everything I was saying. She also told me that although she would honor the three painters, I should not think about coming back to her business. I have never been treated so poorly by a business owner, especially after being completely honest about what I was going through. I understand that businesses have policies, but there is a huge difference between enforcing a policy and treating a customer with cruelty and disrespect. The owner's behavior was completely unacceptable. I sincerely hope she learns that compassion, communication, and basic courtesy matter--especially when someone is going through an extremely difficult time. read more

Had the best birthday experience here. The staff was great, the vibe was wonderful, and people interacted wonderfully and happily amongst each other. My family made candles, then we painted. We had a blast!! Initially, the two men that came with my group later expressed that they didn't want to come to a painting event, but admitted afterwards that they had the best time. One even said that it was therapeutic. Will definitely do this again. The staff here are so friendly and patient. read more

I went here under protest thinking I would hate it. Not sure why, I think I just thought it would be one of those "forced fun" sort of outings! It was actually a blast. If you could watch and learn you could turn out a pretty decent painting (although my husband's is awesome!) I went my own way when they mentioned you could do your own thing, because I just didn't want the same two paintings in our house. They not only had several wines, they also had several craft beers and sodas. Best of, this one had ladies of the Moose Lodge participants, so everyone was required to bring snacks so we had a ton of finger foods. They also had a roaming artist who gave tips and encouragement. My painting is the trees. read more

Made this reservation with my SO because of a T Mobile Tuesday offer. The Delaware location was appealing to us because they had a really beautiful sunset picture that was available on the day that was convenient for us. However, I am so glad we came to this location for several other reasons! The instructor, Jenn, made an effort to get to know us and to come around to see if we had any questions and to give us feedback in real time. I will say, the class was a little rushed at the end so that is my one point of constructive feedback, because the post at the front of the picture is the most challenging part of the painting!! This was also just like, SO fun. If you're thinking "will this really be that enjoyable?" the answer is YES! They also had mimosas and a good selection of White Claw, Beer, and Wine that was available during our three breaks during the session! Don't drink too much or else you won't be able to focus on the painting, lol! read more

We celebrated my daughter's 10th birthday here but there was a slight misunderstanding with her party booking. I spoke with the owner and she offered a solution that seemed fair to me. In the end, not only did she do what we had spoken about she went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied. It was completely unexpected but very much appreciated! My daughter had an amazing time with her friends, we will definitely be back! Jen taught the class she was good with the kids. read more

Brought my parents here for their anniversary. The people were nice enough to let me sit with them. They purposely kept us on the end of the table so that we 3 could sit comfortably. It was "date night" so they each drew a half of a larger painting. Once we arrived, we found our name tags on the table. The open bar served wine, beer & some non alcoholic drinks. The entire place was filled with paintings which gave out a very cheerful vibe. The instructor explained every step in an easily comprehendable and fun manner. There were a couple breaks in between when the bar would be open. My parents, being it their first time, had a blast! I will definitely bring more people here. Great way to spend an evening with your loved ones! But be sure to choose which painting you'd like to create by checking on their website. read more

Wonderful, creative experience! Great for parties, hanging with a friend or occupying your time individually. DIY candle was fun too!

Chose this studio from Yelp for my Goddaughter's 19th birthday celebration and it was the best decision we could have made. Two of our guests have suppressed immune systems, so we operate out of an abundance of caution. ALL of our questions were answered rapidly and with such care. From the time I arrived (30 mins late), all of my stress melted away. Everything was seamless, we had a private room with an instructor, a designated set up area for food, a beverage station right outside the door, music playing...it was the best. Our artist was so kind and especially encouraging to my Goddaughter, who is also an artist. The artist gave us tips on how to alter our pieces to make them our own and even changed hers. I've been to paint and "sips" (although we only sipped on juice) before, but this was by far the best experience. Ps...if you don't finish your painting or would like to make changes, the studio offers a free class every Sunday to do so! It's a really nice option if you live in the area. read more

I'm in love with PWAT! We visited this location during their grand opening. It is located in a shopping plaza, but the store itself is somewhat small. When you enter in, the painting space is right there. There doesn't seem to be room for more than one party at a time, unlike some of the other PWAT in the TriState area. The artist are extremely friendly, and know their stuff. read more

We absolutely love this place! I've been here several times in the past year with my kids, Mom, husband and bestie and I've never been disappointed. My kids have attended the camp which is a great way to let their creative sides roar while they aren't in school. I love experiencing new things and creating memories with loved ones. Painting with a Twist, does just that :) read more

It's hidden in the corner and could be easily missed but like that great little restaurant that you love, you don't want to miss this! Painting With A Twist is a really fun way to release stress and let out your inner artist! I like to go alone and have some me time but many go for parties too. I've met several wonderful people on my excursions. I have a nice glass of wine and create something beautiful to enjoy when I'm finished. The staff are really helpful and fun to be around, there is no downside! Treat yourself, bring a friend, you will be glad you did! read more

I wasn't sure what to expect but glad I tried this. The atmosphere is fun, upbeat and lively. I'm not sure if every class is similar but while I was there music was playing and instructors were dancing and cracking jokes. This is a fun activity for groups, couples or even by yourself. Check their website for upcoming dates and artwork selections. Be mindful that pictures online may vary in person. I think the art that was featured on the web came out differently during the class based on the colors they gave us to use, but still a cool experience. read more

Had a great time here painting vintage flowers. Our instructor Lisa was very funny and charming and easy to follow along with.

I've been here twice (once for a kids birthday party and again recently for an adult private party. Each time I had a total blast. The instructors are thorough but laid-back and fun in the process. You Also have the flexibility to make each painting your own, with color and design. There is an open bar for the adult events which is included in the price. I am far from being a talented artist but it's super fun and I cannot wait to go back!!! read more

Good place for the kids and adults. Everyone feels like an artist and gets creative with their work. The method the artists use to walk you through the process is really helpful. Especially for us that are less art inclined. Its easy to become discouraged when your painting doesn't come out "perfect" but the best thing to remember is everyone's painting is their own unique work. The only concern I had was the slightly less than ample drying stations for the paint. But with the free beverages offered, I was more than happy to wait. read more

Had a private party Sunday night and LOVED it! The artist was so nice, there are so many paintings to choose from and had our own private room. You can bring your own munchies and there is a limited bar provided within the cost. Everyone's paintings came out awesome and a perfect night was had by all. Down side: felt very rushed once we finished our paintings, to hurry up, clean up our stuff and go. It was late but there really isn't time in between to take care of getting things wrapped up. read more

I have been to a few of these in the past at different locations but I have to say I have never had as much fun as this one! The atmosphere was great. The instructor kept it very fun and having an open bar made it even more fun! I would definitely come back! read more

What a fun night...Very upbeat group of artists! I'm by far not an artistic person and I must say my painting turned out great! The owners Steph and Bill made sure everyone enjoyed their night with complimentary beverages of their choice. I did what the concept suggested and enjoyed painting my picture with a twist of wine! Will definitely return. My thought is to paint seasonal pictures!! read more

Reserved a party for my 12 year and her friends yesterday, November 27. Bad experience to say the least. First off, it's suggested to arrive 15 minutes before you party to set up. I arrived 16 minutes before my party, but did not go in until 14 minutes. Once inside, I was standing in another party and was never greeted. A minute passed and finally a female at the desk (showing annoyance) said, "Yes". No greeting or anything. My best friend, Dionne said, "hi, we're here for the 2:00 party". She replied, "go to the back". The response was rude, unprofessional and uninviting. If my daughter wasn't looking forward to the experience- I would have left. Once we were "shooed" to the back room... We were not greeted by our Artist until 1:58pm. This was our first time at this location and it seemed that we were treated differently because of our party. We were not treated like we were valued. After spending $250 on this party I thought the pleasantries would have been automatic. The party along with myself were uncomfortable. Parents were rushed to the back as if we were interrupting something and we were in the way. If this is the case, they need to restructure the facility making a greeting area, then private rooms- so when guest walk in they will not be in the middle of someone else's party and feel they did something wrong. Additionally, I was told that juice would be provided to my party. When I was setting things up, the artist told me to go up front where there was coffee, tea and water. I replied, that's not what you said you offered for a kids party. She sighed, and replied, I will make you some pink lemonade. Our party was over at 4; however, our artist was cleaning the room at 3:30 and took the pink lemonade out to the other party- never asked if we were done. We felt so put off that we left the building and waited outside at 3:41. I would NEVER recommend this facility to anyone. They are not friendly, inviting or professional. I will contact their corporate office on Monday. read more

I have not painted for 30 years and I can not draw... So, I was a bit nervous, but it was a great time!! The instructor and assistant makes you feel at ease. I'm actually looking on the calendar to book my next one!! If you are thinking about going- don't be nervous. I have no skills in the art ( even wrapping gifts is questionable! hahaha) and I was so surprised how good my painting turned out. This is a great time! Also, if you can't get friends together to go on a certain day, it's okay!! you can come by yourself and enjoy. No stress. read more

I was quite disappointed with Painting with a Twist. I went to Kennett Design once before and loved it! It was a relaxing evening that consisted of painting, wine, and space to enjoy a snack. I decided to try Painting with a Twist because I really liked some of the paintings posted on their site. Initially I invited my mother to join me for this as a 69th birthday gift but last minute, she was unable to attend. I'm very glad because she NEVER would have been able to keep up with the pace of the painting. It was a sold out painting and the room was PACKED. The paper plates that held the paint went under the easel as there was no where else to put it. A place for a drink? Barely. A place for a snack? NO WAY. The event was only two hours but should have been 2.5 hours. The event got started about 10 minutes late and the first few steps of the painting were a quick but manageable pace. As the painting progressed, the instructor pumped up the pace. I was 2-3 steps behind each step and many around me were as well. The instructor then yelled.. "15 more minutes to get this done.. another 36 people are coming in. Six more minutes to finish up, another 36 people are coming in." If you want a relaxing event with friends, this is not the place. This is a company that is overbooking a small space and raking in the dough but does not care about their customers and their final product. I am proudly able to display my painting from Kennett Design but unfortunately my painting from Painting with a Twist will be thown out. I felt very rushed and it was not a nice, relaxing afternoon. Although I feel that I am artistic, my rushed painting did not reflect that at all. read more
