When I thought it was the end of the world and my previous hair stylist ditched me....I felt I had to wonder the streets of San Antonio to find a good hair color stylist and then, lol. I found Rhonda! Rhonda welcomed me in like an old friend with open arms. I could tell I was going to be in good hands with the quality of product that she uses to produce healthy roots in ones hair and to protect it from hair damage and hair fall out! Rhonda is a true hair profesional! She is very knowledgeable in her field and since she cares very much about her clientele she updates herself in hair techniques often. She gave me the right tone of blond highlights without going over board and leaving my hair soft, vibrant and full of color! Rhonda new just what I needed when I showed her pictures of my hair previously and what I wanted so she had a clear vision of what I wanted to be done in my hair. I won't be coming back to see Rhonda because I didn't get what I asked for. I wasn't told prices until the middle of the job. She doesn't have them listed anywhere and changes them at her whim depending on her mood. She got frustrated and high blood pressure and started slapping the foils when I suggested ways to make it better. I am a professional, I just can't work on my self due to injuries but I know how bleach and color work MY hair. She mentioned charging me for extra time and product but at the end (5hrs later) changed her mind because she knew I knew she was over charging me and didn't give me what I wanted but could have if she listened to my suggestions. She charged me $230 and I paid it just so I could leave but I didn't get what I wanted at all. She said she could do it and after she started she said she couldn't in one process. I was there from 430-954pm when she said it would be a 2-3 hr process via text. She wouldn't listen to me that I put violet shampoo deposits on my hair and decided to spend 2 hrs fishing around them as if I needed a color correction. to see they came out as soon as she clarified the hair. she jacked it up and gave me straight highlights instead of just the full balayage I wanted. She asked me to send pics so she could do a consult over the phone because of covid and then when I got in person she said she couldn't tell anything from that pic and she needed to get her hands in my hair and see what was going on to do a good consult but then she proceeded to not listen to me at all. It's like everything I told her she did the opposite. I'm adding pics to this review of what I wanted and what I got. I slept on it 2 days before this review and now I'm honestly just mad and want to cry that I let her touch my hair. I knew what was going on with it and now it's messed up and I'm out $230. My previous salon raised their prices rather egregiously, so I when I had the time to get my hair cut I needed to find somewhere to go. I stay pretty busy and don't get to the salon very often, so when I do go I take my time finding someone great to do it. I liked what I had to read about Rhonda's Paintbox Salon so I gave her a call to set up an appointment and came in the next day. I have very long hair - past my hips - and think she did a very nice job. She trimmed it, helped me get some style back, and thinned it out a bit for me. Then she curled it and I am very happy with the results...just wish I knew how to curl my hair like she does! I wanted to try a new stylist and immediately went to Yelp for help. Searched by reviews and found Salons by JC with the Paintbox inside. Stated hairstylist, colorist, balayage specialist. Rhonda was a nice person but I did not get what I had hoped. I showed her lots of pics and told her she had free reign to do anything even if she wanted to go shorter. I thought we understood each other but basically said my hair needed to grow in the front and she would taper back and sides. (She was shooting for one of the pics I showed her with a longer front). Including shampoo I was in her chair about 10 minutes. She mentioned something about being able to go higher as in fullness but was being conservative because I was a new client. She blew dry forward so I thought it was different. I just had someone else fix it. So my 50.00 haircut turned into 100.00. I don't doubt she has great color skills since there are photos but in the pixie arena, well it might not be her forte. Some people are better at styling/cutting long hair. Please make sure and ask any new stylist if they know how to cut/style short hair. It's very different no matter what salon professionals say. read more

I went to Rhonda for a cut, highlights, and lowlights. I took pictures of what I thought I wanted my hair to look like after it was cut, and then told her what I wanted. Rhonda gently pointed out that what I SAID I wanted and what the pictures would give me would be very different, and then spent a lot of time talking to me and explaining what she was going to do so that she and I both had a vision of what the final haircut would look like. In the end, I would absolutely recommend Rhonda for cuts and coloring (I didn't even mention how beautiful the color job she did is!).
