My first grader goes to Maret, and it's such a lovely community. It definitely has the vibe of a DC…read moreelite school without the elitism. My daughter came from a Montessori program which was very self-guided, and the transition to Maret - which naturally has more structure - has been really well received by her. The school's pedagogy preserves the importance of agency in its students, something that will be critical for Generation Alpha kids with access to LLMs that can do anything for them. My sense from conversations with the high schoolers is that self-worth (not self-flagellation) is prioritized as students enter the rat race for college; excellence is expected, but it's not designed to be an unhealthy pressure cooker.

While I did get top-quality education at Thomas S. Wootton, aka Woo-ten, or WOOT'n (no one can ever…read morepronounce it), the school itself lacked in diversity. Sure, it was one of the top public schools in the nation with a 95% graduation rate, but everyone was SO spoiled (including myself). If I were to ever move back to MD and have kids, I would never send my kids there. (I guess never say never). Wootton does offer 1st class education, but not 1st class etiquette/social skills. I take 1 star off for the lame brats who go there (including myself, an alumnus)... but seriously 4 stars b/c I don't want the public school system to hate on me.

I personally have t had a great experience at Wootton, but I have t been there for too long. The…read moreschool doesn't lack diversity in my opinion, what it lacks is a good group of students. Majority of students are spoiled brats who have their parents money and think that they're the one ones in the world that matter, some of the teachers are either weirdos or assholes, and admin doesn't really do shit. My counselor is horrible, she put me in a class with a student that harassed me throughout middle school and she was specifically told not to put me in any classes with her because of that, yet she did. My counselor also never deals with any of my problems and I actually had a teacher deal with it quicker than my own counselor, which is fucking horrible. The bathrooms always have plastic wrap over the urinals and toilets, so students can only really use a few bathrooms, and the air conditioning sucks ass, it's always hot, even in summer. The busses are horrible and so is my bus driver. My bus driver is rude and aggressive when he doesn't like students, and breaks hard on the bus when a students he doesn't like is on the bus, I've almost hit my head and fallen out of my seat, and nothing's been done, and this was first reported a year ago. He would also kick kids off of the bus and claim they never used the bus even when they did everyday and he would literally kick them off just because he didn't like them.

I truly believe any facility dedicated to the education of our future (our children) should be given five stars. I was a little perplexed about the size of the lockers. They look like they belonged in an elementary school. In this day and age where high schoolers are 10 feet tall, I don't think they should have to get on their knees to get in and out of their lockers. Maybe that is their exercise for the day. Who knows. The school was very clean and their trophy case was loaded. I would have taken a picture, however I hate to be in pictures (via reflective glass).

From Day 1, the faculty and other students made her feel at home and a part of the community. Many schools encourage students to bring their "whole selves" into the school but Field really means it. The community is tight-knit and there is so much JOY at the school. The art and theater are incredible and the sports have been a great experience for my daughter, with the older girls on the team guiding & supporting the younger girls. The academics have also blown me away. The teachers are engaging, supportive, and fun. And they go deep into their subjects. The faculty not only has a great sense of the students' academic lives, but of their social-emotional lives, as well, and they work hard to make sure the students are thriving in ALL areas of life. We feel so grateful to have found Field! It is truly a special place.
