If something isn't in stock it can be reserved and this is free if the reservation is made on a children's ticket. Has recently become automated which is a shame because it reduces interaction with the very pleasant staff. Everyone should be a member of a library!

Another excellent local library, that has brilliant, friendly staff. It's bigger than Laira…read morelibrary, and does a great rhyme time for the kids at 10:30 every Friday. The rhyme time gets completely ram packed, so it's easier to go to another one (Laira is very underused). There are lots of new books, and the building is bright and tidy. The library caters really well for young and old alike - along with the rhyme time, there's a wide selection of large print books. Whilst the stock is fairly small, they're happy to order books from other branches for you, and do so for free (which is great).

But it's everything a small local library should be: warm,friendly,accessible and with lovely events which hook kids into books. We lived in the adjacent road for years and our two children loved coming here. It's especially a great place for lonely elderly people and frazzled young Mums-the library brings company and calm in equal measure. This has gone down as one of the best places in our family memories.

They meet every month on a Saturday and cover a wide range of genre from classical English poetry to haiku, tanka and haibun. Short stories are also enjoyed as are various forms of creative fiction and non-creative texts. There's computer access, and many large print books for those who need them. In all of Plymouth's libraries, I've been able to order books in from around the other city branches, but St Budeaux is the only branch that charges me £1 to do this. Maybe that's because it's not central? The library seems to cater to the very old and very young, and books for the inbetweeners like myself are not catered for as strongly as other city brances.

Churston library is very convenient with good parking and easy access. The library has a good…read moreselection of books, an excellent childrens section and several computers that you can book to use. They have full internet connections and are free to members. They offer children's activities in the school holidays but these need to be booked as they are very popular. The library also stocks CDs and DVDs. It has lots of information about local events. The staff are friendly and helpful and they will get you books from other libraries if they don't have what you want.

Books that are 'in the stack' can be ordered and collected when taken out of storage a few hours later. As with all libraries, there's a sense of 'shhh' in this one. There are always a selection of old stock for sale, which is interesting to peruse, and I have picked up a few good autobiographies here. All in all, it's not as friendly as the smaller local branches, but has way more selection to choose from.

This library is located on a road running off the Crownhill shopping area, so does have a lot of…read morefootfall as Crownhill is a popular little shopping area. There isn't a great deal of parking, there is a fairly small carpark off Crownhill Village but apart from that parking is just on the street but you need to be aware of time restrictions. The library as fairly small but is essential for this area and very popular. It is fairly modern and is very clean and bright inside, mainly due to the amount of natural light from all the windows (there are a lot). The staff are really friendly and helpful and can put names to everyones faces. I started going to the library again as my two little boys love reading and i thought I could really help them by stimulating them with as many books as possible. It has now become a weekly outing which they love and look forward to. I have also asked for books that have been recomended by friends, and the staff here have ordered them if they have not been in stock or have been out on loan for a long time so not likely to be returned. The childrens section is fairly small which is a shame, but there is lots of comfy seating and space for the children to explore at there own leisure. The books are all set out at childs eye level and all the furniture is very child friendly which just adds to the experience. A lovely place to visit if you are in the area.
