It is only a small library but Erica will order books for you and also tapes, cd's and talking books. As it is quite a away from Exeter and Okehampton it's handy for all sorts of things - Even a chat!!!

Churston library is very convenient with good parking and easy access. The library has a good…read moreselection of books, an excellent childrens section and several computers that you can book to use. They have full internet connections and are free to members. They offer children's activities in the school holidays but these need to be booked as they are very popular. The library also stocks CDs and DVDs. It has lots of information about local events. The staff are friendly and helpful and they will get you books from other libraries if they don't have what you want.

Fantastic university library, with great selection of the latest scholarly material, and a good…read morestock of the older stuff just down the hill in the 'old' library. The electronic offerings are also top notch. As a distance student, I have been able to access most things that I needed electronically. There are large study rooms all around to serve the rapidly expanding student population, so finding a spot to study is not hard. Also, the students are generally quite respectful and there for study, not play, so there isn't much distraction.

This Library has gone from strength to strength, and I have found it to be very useful in my…read morestudies. The library is now open 24 hours a day, and has undergone extensive refurbishment. It is now a thoroughly modern and appealing place to come and study. My only criticism would be the lack of popular fiction books - it's generally only stocked with books relevant to University courses, which is understandable but limits the potential uses for this lovely building. The library has quite a few computers which have access to the internet this is always useful especially when your own computer decides to pack up!

Books that are 'in the stack' can be ordered and collected when taken out of storage a few hours later. As with all libraries, there's a sense of 'shhh' in this one. There are always a selection of old stock for sale, which is interesting to peruse, and I have picked up a few good autobiographies here. All in all, it's not as friendly as the smaller local branches, but has way more selection to choose from.

But the staff are very friendly and ask if they can help you find something - they seem approachable which means alot. Another excellent local library, that has brilliant, friendly staff. It's bigger than Laira…read morelibrary, and does a great rhyme time for the kids at 10:30 every Friday. The rhyme time gets completely ram packed, so it's easier to go to another one (Laira is very underused). There are lots of new books, and the building is bright and tidy. The library caters really well for young and old alike - along with the rhyme time, there's a wide selection of large print books. Whilst the stock is fairly small, they're happy to order books from other branches for you, and do so for free (which is great).

But it's everything a small local library should be: warm,friendly,accessible and with lovely events which hook kids into books. We lived in the adjacent road for years and our two children loved coming here. It's especially a great place for lonely elderly people and frazzled young Mums-the library brings company and calm in equal measure. As it is run by the National Trust, the entry fee is quite high, but the money does go towards the proper upkeep of the house and grounds. Wander around the gardens, and you will also see a range of different bird species, which are resident here. The house is interesting, with the most spectacular room being the green salon at the front of the house, and there are volunteers about, who will be happy to tell you about its history. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take your camera inside. There is also a reasonably priced café near the entrance, which serve good lunch and afternoon tea.

The computer facilities are very good and you can book a computer and internet use for free. The library may be replaced in the future, plans have been drawn up for a modern library which will have more space. I hope they don't lose the atmosphere which is lovely. The library is on the edge of Victoria Park so it is a nice place for families with children as you can combine a visit to the park and library.

St Thomas Library is a fairly small library but they stock a variety of different books. They also…read morehave a small childrens' area and hold fortnightly singing sessions on a Wednesday where you can go with your little ones and sing nursery rhymes as part of a group. The stock doesn't change as frequently as the central library in town and obviously they don't have as much choice so if you want something specific you are probably better of going into town. However if you are local and just fancy picking up a quick read it's ideal to be able to pop in here without having to trapse into town. You can also return books here that you have borrowed from the main library which i find handy, as again it saves a trip into town.
