Laughing at me as I walked in drenched and looking like a drowned rat, he had no shame in telling me all about the sun, the heat and the warm evenings he enjoys back at home. Weather aside, the shop is really good for fruit and veg, alcohol supplies and the general items you expect to find in a newsagent. I usually come in here for water, which I usually resent buying, but the bottled water is sooooo cheap here- around 30p.

The staff here are efficient and fast, but not overly friendly. The prices reflect their convenient location and working hours. The reason I've given this seemingly ordinary newsagents such a high rating is that they often have certain special offers which make shopping there a treat. Just last week I got a copy of The Times and a free DH Laurence book for just 30p! So whenever you're walking by, keep an eye out for this one-off discounts.

I also popped in here on my way to work for a milkshake, juice or sandwich, as their prices aren't all that bad for this area, and it beats the hell out of going to Tesco in the early morning rush hour. I was only slightly irked that they weren't open as I returned at about half six, but that's a minor thing really. Yes, I like this place.

Whenever I'm in need of heading to the post office to mail something off, I always end up wandering around this massive store just for a bit of a browse. And there's plenty to browse from whether you're into books, board games, or even stationary. When it comes to books specifically, there is definitely a lot here. I've bought more than my share of Christmas presents from here before for the kids and adults; a beginner's guide to Minecraft, a Pokemon stickerbook, and a few cookbooks as well. It's probably cheating, but WHSmith makes Christmas shopping a breeze because I often come through for some inspiration on what to purchase as gifts with how much they have on offer. --- I do like WHSmith, but this WHSmith in particular is just plain awesome. Or you can buy your dress and bangles first, nip into Carphone Warehouse for a quick glance, and then go to Smith to buy a novel, a crossword book, or the latest fashion mag. The main disadvantage of this store is the cashier area. At a glance it appears to be a brilliant idea: four tills planted on a half-spheric counter. The doors that are used both as exit and entrance (as it happens in most shops) are located at both ends of the counter. The disadvantage is that the whole area gets terribly crowded, and people have to wriggle around the stands and each other. Not the most pleasant preoccupation for one of Britain's holiday hotspots. And the stock apparently causes occasional grievance to customers. Most of the time they cannot find a leading local newspaper. However, when I was there a guy with American accent was desperately searching for a copy of The Economist. He didn't find it, and it leaves one to wonder if he posted on his blog about this peculiar fact...

The newspapers are right by the door, so you can buy these without having to go into the scrum of the rest of the downstairs. Always take the escalator to the first floor for the same reason!
