Overall I have been satisfied with the services rendered and professionalism of Dr. Malavia and most of his staff. Dr. Malavia is helpful and professional. One employee, however, seems to need additional training in customer service. Today, I went to the front desk to drop off a medical records release originating from a retina/cataract specialist in Flagstaff and handed her a form I filled out to the best of my ability from the other doctor. The employee at the front desk at Page Eye Center asked me what it was. I told her that it was a records release for my retina/cataract doctor. She told me that I had not included the FAX number. I told her that I didn't know what it was and that I assumed that since they routinely did business with the doctor in Flagstaff that her office would have it already. She claimed that there were "several FAX numbers there and that it was OK, she would do my job for me". I couldn't believe what I had just heard! I did a double take and told her "Excuse me, what do you mean MY job?" She proceeded to tell me that it was my responsibility to provide the FAX number. She asked me if I needed the chart right then. I told her I didn't and that the other doctor would be contacting her anyway and I was just trying to speed up the process by providing her the form since I was already in town at the time and I live about 20 minutes out of town. I honestly thought I was doing Page Eye Center a FAVOR by hand delivering the form! I have not been treated with so little respect, and so much rudeness, in a long time.
I was outraged that this was happening in a doctor's office. This is NOT the first time this employee has treated this customer in an rude manner. Another time, I had been overchanged for my insurance co-pay and had to ask the same employee for a refund of the overpayment. It seemed I had asked her to complete a very difficult task! In fact, I've had to ask for a refund of overpayment again. It seems that Page Eye Center keeps charging me for a co-pay as if they were a 'specialist' when, in fact, the copay is for a regular non-specialist office visit. While I have been refunded the overpayment, I have had to take time out of my day to pick up a check after several days of getting the check issued.
This time, she even said that she was already too busy with the only two other patients already sitting in the waiting room. Her attitude came across to me that 'how dare I give her work to do because she was way too busy!' Seems to me that this clinic gets paid handsomely with my co-pay, out of pocket and insurance payments. Perhaps this clinic is too busy and perhaps I just need to keep working with my doctor in Flagstaff?
I am retired and have no problem driving to Flagstaff for eye exams, where that clinic apparently has learned professionalism and outstanding customer service! read more
