Helen (the English landlady) is excellent at what she does. Her Greek husband, Michael, prepares really good food. On Thursday nights they always have fresh fish, and the haddock and chips is consistently good and among the best I have ever eaten. It's best to phone for a table reservation on Thursday, Friday or Saturday evenings and/or for Sunday lunch.

It is no longer so much a traditional pub as it appears from the outside, but more emphasis on the restaurant side of it. Fine with us, it was the only cooked food source within easy walking distance our cottage in the country. What good food it was, as good and wholesome as anything served in our 'foodie' neck of the woods here in the San Francisco Bay area. With cheeses like Winterdale Shaw, (they have their own dairy herd, and chalk lined cellar to mature the cheese in), and Bloomy Rinded Somerset Brie, it was a pleasure dining there.

I am sorry if I offended anybody by putting an incorrect review. I have never been to The Chequers Inn Kemsing, but I do know a few of their locals who love it here. It is supposed to be one of the nicest pubs in the area, very old with lots of character and charm. I have driven past and it certainly looks very impressive.
