The restaurant is conveniently located near tourist areas, and has a cozy, traditional atmosphere. There was a crackling fire in the fireplace, and lots of traditional woodwork. It was decorated for Christmas, which was nice. The staff was efficient and friendly. We ordered a bottle of white wine to go along with our traditional cheese fondue and were a little disappointed in receiving an old bottle of white wine that tasted off. After the server had the bar tender try the wine, they agreed it was old and provided us with a new/fresh bottle. The cheese fondue was served at the table (as you'd expect) with fresh bread and other accompaniments. The cheese fondue was good (what's not to love about cheese fondue, right?) but to be honest, I've had better. Typically one can taste a few different cheeses (emmenthaler, gruyere). This fondue, while fine, seemed a bit basic/standard for a restaurant that specializes in fondue. Overall a good experience, and I'd certainly recommend the place to others. Perhaps the other types of fondue offer a bit more complexity than the one we ordered.

The atmosphere and decor are nice and cozy, it looks just like the pictures on their website. We ordered the mixed meat fondue for all of us, with added lamb. It comes with fries and salad and if you run out they'll bring you more, free of charge. We ordered the house red which was a wonderful wine at a great price. The staff was very attentive. Parking is very close to the restaurant, but we didn't have to park as we stayed at a hotel across the street. I would have given them 5 stars if they had done a fondue for dessert, there's no better dessert at a fondue restaurant than a chocolate fondue!

(You can't leave Belgium without trying their beer, mussels, waffles, and fries right?) Luckily, both chicken and mussels were juicy and tender. I especially loved the white sauce they made for the mussels, simple but full of flavor. In fact, I couldn't stop adding the sauce to every bite. I even copied their recipe to make the white sauce at home, and it was a hit haha Ambiance was really nice. Everything looked beautifully displayed in the restaurant, I honestly enjoyed dining there. The biggest complaint would be the waiting time. After we placed the order, it took quite a while (like 30-40 mins) to get our food. It was our last meal and last day in Bruges, and we had to catch our train. So, we ended up packing half of our food to go and enjoyed it on the train. Even the packing took awhile, everything moved so slowly at the restaurant. Good thing it was nicely packed and still tasted good, but I just wish we didn't need to rush like that and eat. The restaurant offers outdoor seating with a cover/heat lamps, making it bearable during colder months. We ordered two main entrees to split: - Mussels and Frites (€19.95) - Dowsed in white wine sauce with a basket of fries on the side, this was our must-eat while in Belgium. Still a good portion with decent mussels to enjoy. - Vlammse Stoverij (€15.95) - Bruges' popular beef stew that everyone in the chocolate shops recommended we try. The plate of meat was not bad but a bit on the saltier side. I could have used some more bread to help combat some of that sodium. We were both stuffed by the end of our meal that we didn't bother with dessert... yet. So not a bad restaurant to try some Belgian offerings. The soup of the day was tomato soup. It was thick and hearty and you can tell it was made with real vegetables. The mussels in cream sauce was flavorful and fresh. The salmon was fresh and tasty. The bernaise sauce it was served with added a nice touch. The stewed beef was flavorful and tender but seemed a bit dry to me (if that even makes sense). Both entrees were served with a small salad and plenty of fries (which was amazing). The ice cream was, well, ice cream but the slice of cake was delicious! Layers of chocolate, cake, and what tasted like a mixed nut cream was amazing - not too sweet and not too heavy. I would recommend this place for the value of the food but if you're in a rush, this may not be the place for you. Lunch took a little over an hour - we got there at 2pm and did not finish until 3:10pm. We are pretty quick diners. Service was good despite the speed.

The staff is friendly and helpful, which was another reason I returned for dinner after my afternoon stop. My waitress Charlotte suggested the Gehaktballetjes, a meatball dish stuffed with melted cheese and all I can say is a big Belgium yum to that one. The Flemish stew was amazing. The honey wasn't too hungry so we shared a bowl of it and the portion size was perfect, along with it being one of the most delicious stews we had while in Belgium. The service was helpful and prompt and I can't speak highly enough about our experience. So if you're visiting Bruges, De Gastro is a must-eat stop during your visit.

My family got the Filet Mignon and they all liked theirs and they were cooked to order. I got the Kangaroo steak (see photo). Everything was tasty. The Kangaroo is likely a dish I wouldn't get again as it just wasn't my thing. Perhaps it was just the sauce/gravy and the Kangaroo was good. I'm not sure. Service was a little slow and the restaurant wasn't that busy. I just don't think they were in a rush for anything. This is not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation.
