I couldn't find the Marketta Cafe, so I have a strange feeling that the cafe is part the Miami Marketta. We went there to get an iced coffee after the beach. They didn't have Iced Americanos on the menu, but they gladly made them for us. Also, I was short about 1 dollar since we were trying to get ride of all of our Australian coins, and the lady happily said, no worries that's enough. She was super nice and to top it off the coffee was the best we had since our stay on the Gold Coast (better than Zarraffa's, which I am sure is not difficult). The cafe was fully mums and babies (it was Tuesday late morning), and from the menu I saw that there was some delicious smoothies as well as other yummy snacks and cabinet food. Being a small service area, they only make a small range of toasties and the bowls, as well as providing a small selection of muffins, and between 9:30-10:30am you can get a bacon and egg burger. Once we arrived in Burleigh Heads, we checked out Quest one morning, and quickly realized that this was THE place to be! We ended up going every morning and loved the laid back ambiance and friendly, local vibes. Even the owner seemed to know everyone on a first name basis and greeted everyone! Our coffees were always perfectly rich, bold and balanced, and they paired so nicely with one of their delicious baked goods (everything is baked in-house btw!). What made our experience even better was that they had a variety of yummy vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options. Our favorites were their banana bread and zucchini & pineapple bread, which they will also toast for you if you'd like. We honestly miss this place already and wish they had a location here in the Bay Area, California! Guess we'll just have to find a way to get back to the Gold Coast again soon!

It's preposterous how cheap you guys get some killer basic Italian nosh! Absolutely ludicrous! Coffee and cake for only $2.80? Okay, so I'm too afraid to try the coffee. But it's not like I come to Maurita every single time I am down the coast for the coffee... It's the cannoli. A mere $3 each shell, with fillings of vanilla custard, chocolate custard, or--my personal favourite--ricotta and fresh cream, otherwise known as cannoli Sicilliani. Be still, my beating heart. Ever since the guy at work who lives down on the GC brought in a whole jenga stack of cannoli for us office drones, I have been a fan. For my birthday at work earlier this year, my only request was "CANNOLI, PLEASE". Any time I've had to do a work favour for this guy, I've asked for payment in cannoli. And then, earlier this year, I was down on the GC for a day, and I realised... I could have it all. I could have my cannoli and eat it, too. I could visit Cannolo Mecca. The work guy coughed up the name and address and it was immediately added to my itinerary. It wasn't until I got to Maurita that I discovered it's got a lot more going on than just cannoli, though if they wanted to close down everything else there and just focus on cannoli, I'd still be okay with it.
