We had 7 kids ranging from 11 to 16. All had an amazing time and all of the surf guides we very attentive. They supported and encouraged those that had some struggles . All came off the hour lesson wanting to go again.

Soooooo much FUN! My 9 yr old had a blast learning how to surf! Free only 5 mins he was up and riding waves. He can not wait until next year to do it again.

Saw a flier for them in a coffee shop Labor Day weekend - who knew low-tech advertising still works. Called the number, spoke with Lisa and for just $85 plus a mere $20 to both drop off/pick up, had an almost brand new SurfTech 12'6" board for the next 24 hrs. Thanx the Seamus for the easy hand off/retrieval. Life vest and Great adjustable carbon paddle - NOT the usual crappy aluminum one with the blister-enduring metal button adjuster - trust me, if you've used one you never forget/hate it. Took the board out both on the back of the Breachway and out on the ocean next morning. Board handled great. Steady as a Sidewalk. Can't wait to call these folks on our next visit. Five Stars all the way.

I am Paddle Boarding back in after my 1 hour lesson with Tyler

If you ever take a pit stop in Watch Hill or you're trying to stalk Taylor Swift at her waterfront…read morehome here, make sure to take a quick stop and check out the oldest operating merry go round in the US. Unfortunately, it's only for small kids as there's a weight limit due to the way it's designed, so if you got kids, hopefully they can appreciate the history behind it and enjoy the ride.

The Watch Hill Flying Horse Carousel is a historic carousel that has been operating in Watch Hill,…read moreRhode Island since 1884. The carousel was manufactured by the Charles W.F. Dare Company in Brooklyn, New York. It is unclear when exactly the carousel was manufactured, with some experts believing that it was assembled as early as 1867. It is one of the two oldest carousels in the United States, along with the Flying Horses Carousel in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard. The Watch Hill Carousel is also the oldest carousel in the United States in which the horses are suspended from chains. According to local legend, the carousel originally belonged to a traveling carnival. They brought it to Watch Hill some time between 1897-1883 and left it there for unknown reasons. It contains 20 horses in two sizes and it's believed that the bodies of the horses were carved from single blocks of wood, with the legs carved and attached separately. When the carousel rotates, centrifugal force drives the horses outward, giving rise to the name "flying horses." The New England Hurricane of 1938 caused extensive damage to the carousel. The horses were recovered from sand dunes and the carousel was restored to operation. Today the carousel runs from June to Labor Day. My family and I recently visited the Watch Hill Flying Horses Carousel. We were visiting some friends of ours who were vacationing in the area. I remembered hearing that one of the oldest carousels was located in Watch Hill and asked if we could all visit. Like other early carousels, the Watch Hill Carousel features a brass ring device. We first learned about this concept when we visited the Flying Horses Carousel in Martha's Vineyard. A wooden arm dispenses iron rings that carousel riders try to grab as they pass by. If a rider gets a 'brass ring', then they win a free ride. This whole concept adds a fun competive element to the ride. We let our older son ride a couple of times and he was lucky enough to grab a prized brass ring and win a free ride. We all had a fun time visiting the historic carousel and look forward to returning in the future!

Beautiful Spot, But Pricing and Policies Hurt Locals…read more Dubois Beach is undeniably a beautiful place to spend a summer day--calm water, great views, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels like classic Stonington. The setting itself easily earns five stars. Unfortunately, the overall experience gets weighed down by the pricing and policies that make it harder for locals to enjoy a beach that's been part of the community for generations. The biggest issue is the cost. Between admission fees and parking charges, a simple beach visit adds up quickly. For visitors, that might be expected, but for residents who already pay some of the highest taxes in the area, it feels like an unnecessary burden. Locals shouldn't have to pay to park at their own town beach when they're already contributing through property taxes year‑round. It creates a sense that the beach is more geared toward tourists than the people who live here and support the community. Staff interactions can be hit or miss as well. Some are friendly and welcoming, while others come across as rigid or uninterested, especially when it comes to enforcing rules or handling questions about pricing. It's not enough to ruin the day, but it does take away from what should be a relaxed, hometown experience. Dubois Beach is a gem, no doubt--but the current system makes it harder for locals to fully enjoy it. With more reasonable pricing and a more community‑minded approach, it could easily be a five‑star destination for everyone.

We parked a bit up the street, which gave us a pleasant walk past charming homes and the low hum of weekend life in the borough. The beach itself, tucked at the southern tip of Water Street, was calm and inviting, with its shaded gazebo and views stretching across Fisher's Island Sound. Don't miss the granite memorial to the 1814 defense of Stonington stood quietly, commemorating the town's defiant stand against the British warship Ramillies. It's a modest but powerful reminder that this peaceful spot once echoed with cannon fire and resolve. [Review 1072 of 2025 - 125 in Connecticut - 24626 overall]
