Our 6 person group had a great time aboard the Grumpa with captain Ryan and first mate David. Despite the weather being spotty and the seas a little rough at times, we caught more Bluefish than our tired arms could handle and then loaded up on porgies and sea bass for our fish fry later that day. Ryan really knew what he was doing and Dave was very attentive and helpful. He explained each technique very well as we switched from diamond jig to umbrella rig to bottom fishing for porgies. Just a great day for all of us. The 6 person charter is the way to go to maximize your experience. Whether the larger party boat or the 6 person Grumpa, I highly recommend Sunbeam and will be back in the fall. read more

My husband and I had a great time on the 'Sunset Striper' trip even though it was rainy. The deck-crew really bust their @$$es to make sure you are taken care of and you know how to use the rods and how to best attract the types of fish based on the location of the boat. My arm got a work out reeling in the lines each time they indicated to get your lines up, because they were about to reposition the boat. There were quite a few 'regulars' who brought their own gear and were also kind and fun to watch. Someone caught a 40 inch striper but had to toss it back because of the rules. The deck crew Dave always was there to untangle our spooled line or bait a hook or see if we had reached the bottom. I would suggest wearing galoshes an a waterproof windbreaker. Also a fish towel that you can clip to your pants. Bring a cooler with ice for your catch. We also brought our sandwiches and snacks. They have beer and soda cans for sale. I would highly recommend this trip for teens and adults who like adventure read more

My first time out on a saltwater boat and because of these guys, i can't wait to come back!! Captain Mike, Kiwi, DJ and Tucker were all absolutely amazing!!! They teach everyone everything you need to know and are there the second you need them! We had a party of 5 including my 11 year old son and a friends 10 yr old. These boys (and even myself) were baiting their own hooks and catching fish all day!! On the way back the crew even filleted all our fish! My only complaint is wishing the day didn't have to end!! If I could give them zero stars I would. The lady here is a nasty women who doesn't know how to run her business properly. I originally booked with them for my bachelor party outting but changed my mind because the charter would have only been 5 hours which 3 of would have been getting to and from the spot. I called and canceled and she charged my CC anyways and said she has no record of me canceling. Fail to see how that's my problem but when I called to question her she said she should be charging me double. Will never do or recommend business with them again. read more

So we went on this fishing boat today!!!! Never have we had such an amazing day! The trip was fun, relaxing and soooo enjoyable. It is a family run business and they so appreciate everyone's business. We have gone on other charters that have been so stressful, the captain is stressed and unfriendly. A great experience for family and kids at a great price. This is our third trip on the Sunbeam fleet for the Thursday kids trip (usually leaves at 230 pm). This is a great experience for kids because the trip is only 2 hours so if your kids love it or hate it it's not the usual 8 hours. The prices are great too for a fishing trip and good for just trying sea fishing on a boat. You don't have to fish either - just go out and cruise on the sound. We went out on a beautiful day with calm water and great fishing. The crew were very helpful for the entire trip. They taught you how to fish, assisted with casting and baiting (not exclusively but hey it's three mates between 30 people), and made you feel at home. Capt. Bob even let the kids sit up with him while cruising out to the sound. The crew (Kiwi, Tina, John) were great, kid friendly, and hard working. When going bring some extra cash for snacks and gratuities (20% of fare total - you give to them separately at end of trip). We caught a lot of fish and for a fee ($1 per) the crew filleted them for us. In summary this is an amazing experience for the kids and even adults. They know how to do it right and make it enjoyable. We like it so much we come once a year and bring guests from out of town on this short and great adventure. read more

My family of five had the BEST day ever! Yes, it was a great day to fish, we caught about forty, yes forty, blues, a sea bass and a flounder (on a jig haha). Kept six blues and they processed all the fish on the ride home. Dropped lines in seven or eight locations and each one brought in fish. About 25 on board total and everyone caught something. Plenty of room. Even for the little ones they would hook them and let the kids reel in. Everyone on the crew was great, and Quinn took care of us, helped the younger ones, remembered all their names and joked around. Don't bother bringing a bunch of stuff, just sunscreen up before hand, bring a cooler with drinks on board and hopefully a cooler of fish on the return! read more

So this was the second time I took my nine year old out with Sunbeam. The first time was just last week, on their three hour, "kid friendly" trip. The crew was really excellent with all of the kids on board, and the captain circulated around making jokes and asking whether anyone wanted to take a turn steering the boat. We had such a great time that my son asked to go out on one of the eight hour trips, and we're heading back to shore as I type this. The trip out and back was considerably longer this time, but guys were catching porgies, fluke, and sea bass at every drift. (Bring something to keep the kids occupied during travel time, if you think you may need it.) Again, the crew was fantastic. They took the time to learn my son's name and to talk with him about the fish we were reeling in, what kind of bait works best for which fish, etc. All in all, I love this fleet. They're friendly, knowledgeable, and they make it easy even for beginners like me to feel halfway competent. If you're thinking of heading out for some saltwater fishing, with kids or without, I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Went on the boat for the first time was not very happy one of the mates looked like he was high they charge you 70 dollars for the trip and charge you 1 dollar a fish the captain said we were going for blues and bass so on are way out he said that we weren't going for blues and bass we are doing porgies very miss leading I will tell all my friends never to use that boat read more
