I have paddled with Tim and Paddle Method four times now. He is a wonderful paddle boarding instructor. He is always supportive and kind. He is very knowledgable and safety conscience, but super fun as well! Tim makes sure you know exactly how to paddle properly with the correct technique, so I can go out and come back in through the waves safely. You will most certainly have a terrific experience. Stand up paddle boarding is a great activity for all ages. I have taken out my parents, grandparents and friends. I had my first paddle boarding experience on July 5, 2014. it was amazing!!!! Tim was super flexible, I called for a same day appointment/lesson for a group of 4. he gave me directions over the phone and said he would be out at location all day for whenever we were able to make it. we got there, checked in and changed. he provided an on land lesson showing proper technique and form and explaining the parts of the board which was really helpful since all four of us were newbies! once in the water he was completely present and helpful, correcting technique and offering tips. I actually fell off my board and he was quick to paddle over to me and make sure I was okay and then encourage me back onto the board and off I went. I would definitely recommend Tim and his team for newcomers to the experience and he also offers tours and paddle boarding experiences out of different areas for those that are more experienced or more adventurous ;) I can't wait for my next paddle boarding lesson and possible tour!! Tim was kind but verbose and the overall experience was not good. We have paddled dozens of times in 4 places. First, we were treated as if we knew nothing (which may be real for some customers). The paddling was great, with mostly flat water and little wind. The location can get "boaty" ... no issue. But the prices should never be a mystery. We looked online and saw one price, then we got charged another price (small increase), then the website changed the same day. Inflation may be a real thing this year, but I did not appreciate the surprise. The web price should always match reality. read more

Great lesson and great tour. Very friendly and caring. The lesson was step by step and safety was of primary concern. Marina del Rey is also a good location to learn paddleboarding. The water is pretty smooth, even though there is a pretty good amount of boat traffic. The guide stays with you the entire time to make sure you have an enjoyable and safe experience. I've been SUPing about 5-6 times in the past and my friend wanted to take the Level 1 class as it was her first time. Based on the reviews stating it's "not just your typical instruction" I decided to go for it. I did SUP for the first time last week with Paddle Method. I loved it! I went out with a few friends for a nighttime paddle. It was so lovely to be out in the bay in the evening, away from the noise of the city...It was relaxing yet invigorating at the same time, if that's at all possible. I highly recommend it! Pro's: - Tim is an awesome instructor - super knowledgable and really nice - Reasonable rates - they have really good packages available, and there is a 20% off for your first lesson/tour if you book in July. - Paddle Method is a smaller shop, so you get totally personalized service - Parking is easy for Paddle Method, unlike many other places in MDR - just park at Jamaica Bay Inn, the hotel right next to Paddle Method - Tours - I so loved my evening paddle boarding experience, I'm going to book the SUP tour in Paradise Cove. Amazing. By far would recommend no one else. I would know, I was duped into paying the same for a "lesson" but really a supervised rental the week before by an outfit in Laguna... If you want a lesson, please go see Tim. He is a rock star - personable, knowledgeable, stand up (get it? ;)). I had originally wanted to take the 11a class but couldn't online so went w the 2p. I let Tim know and he told me that there was still space for 11a but warned me there were some 13 yos so if I wanted a more rigorous paddle I might want to stick w 2p. We did - and my husband and I ended up getting a private lesson when Tim had every incentive to persuade us to take the 11 for an afternoon off. I've been paddling with Tim and the Paddle method for months now and I couldn't recommend a better instructor and company. Tim instructs with authenticity and passion for the water, paddling, and human connection. One second he'll be dropping knowledge about kelp and the next pointing out a group of dolphins and sea life easily missed by the common eye. There is something about Tim that draws people in and makes more difficult paddling technique and concepts achievable to even the beginner paddler. It would honestly be a mistake to go anywhere else for your paddling experience. My friends and I are obsessed with the Palos Verdes with incredible coastal views of Malibu. AMAZING! Tim and Chris were so knowledgeable and fun! My cousin was visiting from out of town and as a last minute activity we wanted to go paddle boarding. We called around several places and no one was willing to just let us try paddle boarding without a prior reservation or class. Folks, please don't go out into the water without lessons. This stuff is harder than it looks especially when you, a tiny SUP-er, are surrounded by speedboats and large boats. I took 6 lessons from Tim in the summer of 2017 before heading out into the main channel in the marina on my own (in MDR). The lessons are so well structured. Tim goes out of his way to make you comfortable. You will come out of the lessons with a repertoire of SUP skills that can get you out of the hairiest of situations. Before whining about the cost which I think is very reasonable (the cost, not whining), ask yourself "What is my life worth?". read more

I always say that it takes a special kind of person to be a teacher. Tim is this special kind of person! He is smart, knowledgeable , patient and friendly. He takes you through all of the things you need to know on the sand before you even go into the water. Tim makes sure you feel comfortable and understand everything you need know. I also really liked that he really emphasized safely and being able to quickly maneuver out of the way of boats and people etc. We got out on the water and I felt a bit nervous initially, but Tim talks you through what you need to do. Plus, it helped that it was only me and my sister in our group. (Not sure how big his groups normally are) It wasn't long before I was "zooming" ahead of Tim and my sister. (Zooming by my definition. Paddle Method is the way to go for standup paddle boarding! Last week I went for lesson 1 - Basic Flatwater Skills and it was great! Then this weekend I took the Sea Lion Tour around the Marina and it was also great - lots of sea lions and sunny weather! Tim's training techniques from Flatwater Lesson 1 and again on the beach prior to the Tour really made the difference and boosted my confidence. I then did Flatwater Lesson 2 and learned some additional techniques to get more out of my paddling and my core while out on the water. What a fun experience. My wife and I signed up for the seal lion tour which included intro lessons. Spencer was our guide. I was nervous that my wife might not like it (not much of an ocean person), or get tired (2 hours), or go for a swim. But Spencer made it fun, enjoyable with clear instructions and a good eye to keep everyone in our group of four moving together, and we had a super time. I just finished a private two-hour introductory SUP class from Tim. It's my first SUP experience. Tim is an excellent instructor, one of the best sports instructors I've ever had met. In addition to showing you "how", I am particularly impressed with the fact that Tim always taught me "why". Before the class, Tim was super attentive and patient during the communication. After a recent shoulder surgery I have been missing my outdoor fitness activities. I had SUP'd once before, last summer, and thought the core and balance workout would not only feel great but also work into my physical therapy. Although it is "winter," it was a beautiful and warm day in the Marina, and probably a little less busier than summer months. Tim is an excellent instructor, helping me remember the correct form, so I would get the most out of my lesson and not reinjure myself.
