The waiting list is loooongg and the ground is hard to dig. I am ashamed to say that I gave up my allotment here after just a few months as I ran out of time (head down to the community allotment every now and then instead). However, if you are a dedicated veggie grower and are located in the East of the city - this is the place for you. Get your name on the list now and you might just about be able to start growing next spring!
The site is on the whole tidy and well situated, just off of the cycle path opposite the old Elizabeth Fry Chocolate factory. It's quite likely that on a morning or evening visit someone and his dog will say a jolly hello to you, and the advice on horiculture is ripe for the picking from old regulars.
The plots are massive (be prepared to put a LOT of time and effort into it) and some are overgrown with brambles etc so can take a while to clear. The soil itself is good and fertile - and there are plenty of shed dotted about too (although not every plot comes with a shed). The best thing is that the annual 'rent' is just £26 a year!
