The price is extremely reasonable as well fo rent spaces. The one downside is that if you rehearse late at night then the heating isn't good, so wrap up warm. I'll usually turn up with a t-shirt, jumper, hoodie and coat as well as a scalf, hat and gloves, and if I stand still for 2 minutes i'll still feel the cold!

They have sone a stunning job at revamping this old fire station. The walls of the Boneyard Bar are painted a bright cerulean and their are some stencils by the art tart above the door and day of the dead artwork on the walls. Artwork dons all the walls and every event is done differently. The Island is a huge complex, not all of which opens up. For some of the larger events, stalls are built in the large courtyard. Every event I go to, the experience is different. The Island is the HQ for The Invisible Circus, who undoubtedly put one of the most creative and interactive nights in the UK. I have seen the best fireshow, the best arial performance and had the best crumpets at the Island! Its a fantastic space and worth keeping an eye out to see what nights are happening here, from the spectacular carnyville, heavy metal acid panto to klezmer craziness, the Island is an amazing creative hub in the heart of the City.

Staff were friendly and altogether it was a good evening out. I bought most of my ticket on my Nectar points, which made it good value. I do not buy food or drink at the cinema as it is too expensive and I imagine if it were cheaper a lot more would be sold.

I don't quite know what to make of Art Original. Is it a gallery? Is it a glorified memorabilia…read moreshop? Who can say! This hard to navigate shop is packed to the brim with celebrity inspired works, signed sports photographs and posters of local hot spots. The staff say a friendly hello upon entering but did give me a suspicious look when I lingered too long. Not a comfortable or enjoyable shopping experience.

Therefore, there's a lot of musical icons here, with some of the framed pictures, posters and prints apparently signed by said celebs. Next up, there's various sporting heroes from today (such as Man U or Arsenal team shots to bloody Nigel Mansell!) All in all, it's a bizarre shop that charges over the odds for things that might work as the ultimate present for some people, but seems cheap and tacky to me. Meh.

They do special cinema nights, such as Ghostbusters on Halloween (genius) and an up-coming David Lynch night. Find out what's on by joining their Facebook group and also influence what films you want to see. They also have a lot of stand up comedy here - it has moved up to four nights a week. I have yet to go to one of these but the line ups are impressive. Let's hope the Jester's crowd don't find out about it.... Recently they also had a Playstation night with Pro Evo competition. Part of the delightfully eclectic St Nicholas Market, this glorified market stall is bulging, not only with rolls of material, but also sewing accessories, needles, buttons, zips, velcro by the metre.. We have As an avid sewer of fancy dress costumes, I can often be found rummaging through the reels of stuff. Luckily much of it is less than a fiver a metre and the lady running the stall is as helpful-as-can-be. The stall is great for dress-making and home-furnishing as they've started stocking upholstery and curtain fabric too.

A gem of a fabric stall in St Nicholas Market, Avon Textiles is easiest to find if you go in from…read morethe side entrance on High Street, there you'll find a wealth of rolls stacked up against the wall opposite a late night takeaway stall. Avon Textiles stocks a surprisingly large range of materials, from dressmaking staples such as calico, to fake fur, neon stretch lycra and silk. The prices are relatively cheap too, which is always a bonus. The man that runs the stall is also fairly tolerant of students which is a blessing as this is often the destination of choice for those looking to make fancy dress costumes, particularly the animal kind as there are always several varieties of fake fur on the go at any one time. Rolls are stacked somewhat haphazardly so normally you just point to what you want and the man gets it for you. Whilst occasionally irritating, as you don't get to initially touch and feel the fabrics yourself, this is a blessing if you have butterfingers and are prone to Laurel & Hardy style mishaps when handling 3m long polls!
