Our Blackbeard to Banksy - Bristol walking tour ended around 1:30pm just around the corner of this Museum, and our tour guide Duncan suggested we come here, as there was a Banksy "the Grim Reaper" on display here. Also we were still too full from breakfast and didn't want lunch.
So we headed over and as we got to the M shed entrance, I spotted a sign for a boat ride up the Avon, on a real 1930s tugboat, and since it was a glorious sunny day, my brother purchased tickets, and off we went on our 30 min round trip ride. This was such a high treat - they boat could only seat 10 people and we went up to the lock and also passed Brunel's SS Great Britain, so if you are visiting on the weekend, definitely recommend this as one of the things to do from the M shed!
After the boat ride, we actually headed a bit along the Avon river walk (saw my 2nd Banksy - Girl with pierced ear-drum) and only came back to the M shed around 4ish, wandering around a bit, before heading to the 1st floor where I saw my 3rd Banksy!
My other highlights at this museum were the map of Bristol on the ground floor with the hot air balloons on the ceiling and also all the Roman artifacts- especially a beautiful preserved mosaic. Also the best part, visiting this museum is absolutely free!
Oh, also a note on the name - the building seems to be housed in one of the former dry dock sheds and it was M shed and hence the name, which I thought was pretty cool. Other remnants of its ship-building past can be found in these massive goods unloading cranes, and on the weekend for £2, they have guided tours of this heavy machinery. I decided to skip this treat on this visit, but maybe next time?
Had a fabulous visit wandering around and checking this museum out, so definitely recommend.
