The brace provided to me was very large and uncomfortable, and I initially did not want to take it. I was told it was covered by insurance, so I accepted it. I was not aware that I would be responsible for almost $400 bill. If I had known the actual cost, I would not have accepted it. I used the brace only twice, to get home and then return for my appointment. When I came back for my MRI results, I was provided with a different brace. I contacted the billing department hoping to discuss the situation and find a reasonable resolution. Unfortunately, I was told that the charge was my responsibility because I had signed the paperwork. I understand the importance of signed documents, but I hoped the circumstances would also be considered. I have no issue paying for medical care or equipment that is appropriate and genuinely helps me. However, the overall experience in this situation felt more like a financial transaction than a patient-care experience. I sincerely wish the billing department had been more understanding and willing to work with me toward a reasonable solution.

My relationship with him started in April 2023 after suffering a level for AC Joint separation from an inline speedskating crash. He was very conservative and did not initially recommend surgery which I very much appreciated. After further review and discussion we decided that surgery was necessary to put my right shoulder back together. The surgery and the follow-up PT he recommended was perfect. My right shoulder is fully functional. In July 2025, I suffered an broken clavicle and scapula of the right shoulder from a cycling accident. Went back to Dr. Petrie. He again evaluated my condition very conservatively and advised that surgery was not necessary this time. In fact, I think the surgery he did in 2023 made the shoulder stronger so the injury was to unrelated areas, i.e. the clavicle and scapula. We did multiple follow ups to ensure the clavicle and scapula were healing well. Back on the bike again. Dr. Petrie is on my speed dial as, while I'm 69, I'm still cycling like a youngster and may need his care again. Would not consider anyone other than Dr. Petrie.

Dr. Todd Peters (now retired) and his assistant Kaylee were excellent for low back consultations, X-rays, and PT prescriptions--always available and thorough. Dr. Melikian, a spine specialist, saw me for neck/shoulder pain. Despite bringing neck X-rays/MRIs, he quickly identified shoulders as the primary issue (limited rotation vs. decent neck mobility) and referred me to Dr. Shore. He never rushed me, always ensured I had no more questions, and his assistant Joanna was phenomenal--one of the best I've encountered. She performed quick but detailed tests (grip strength, rotation, tender points) and genuinely cared, helping shift focus to my shoulder effectively. Dr. Vivek Babaria (pain management) treated chronic neck tightness and cervical radiculopathy. In 2023, he did facet joint injections; in 2025, an epidural steroid injection (C5-C7 herniations) that finally helped with issues where neck pain was keeping me from sleeping. His newer assistant Hank in late 2025 was equally impressive, starting with conservative treatment when I brought an MRI showing mild shoulder tendinosis/bursitis, prescribing PT and baclofen, then noting clear posture/pain improvement at month follow-up. They did not overtreat and go straight to another injection which was nice. From imaging reviews to injections and conservative care, everyone at DISC stands out for attentiveness and expertise. Highly recommend Dr. Melikian, Dr. Babaria, and likely anyone else for neck, back, shoulder, nerve, etc pain issues.

While I understand that patients are responsible for knowing their insurance benefits, I also expect a basic level of communication and customer service from a medical office. A clinic should have a system to track the number of authorized visits and alert patients when they are approaching or exceeding their coverage limits. Instead, I was left feeling like the responsibility was shifted entirely onto me for an issue that could have been prevented with better internal tracking and communication.
