A little over a week ago I took daughter and her family sailing via Pacifica. My background in sailing is fairly proficient and I wanted their first experience aboard a boat to be a positive one so that I'll be able to progress their sailing/boating lives. After consulting w Mick, a nice and extremely helpful gent, we decided that a catamaran would be a great experience, and it was. It's a monohull w training wheels. Capt Curtis and Mitch met me at the docks, above and beyond for Mitch, and we were off. Curtis was great w all my grandkids ( 4 - 6 to 14 ) and all their questions. In the future I would recommend Pacifica as a charter company with no reservations. read more

I booked a 2 hour sail for my birthday with captain Curtis and we had a blast. Captain Curtis was very kind and polite to my group. It was kind of chilly out on the water that day but there were plenty of blankets on the boat for us to use to keep warm. We had a very relaxing afternoon and will definitely be returning read more

Hello Nick at Pacifica Charters! A big shout out and thank you to Nick for our sailing trips this past Saturday and Sunday! We so enjoyed sailing on San Diego Bay, getting valuable lessons on sailing, reading the seas and rules of the "road!" I am grateful also for Nick's patience as he took us to specific coordinates so I could place flowers on my mother's resting place. Thanks again, Nick. Hope to meet up again! Wishing you an awesome week! Nancy Ebbinghaus read more

Pacifica Sailing Charters are absolutely wonderful. It was our anniversary yesterday and was initially bummed when we received notice that the time we selected was not available. While we were trying to figure out what to do instead, they called back and told us they had found us a boat and Captain. I was stunned and so excited! We couldn't believe it! Captain Mike reached out to us during the day via text to confirm time, location and even sent us a wonderful picture so, we knew what he looked like. We just knew we were going to be in good hands. "Inspiration" was a beautiful boat! Captain Mike did not disappoint. We went over safety instructions, toured the boat and got settled in for a beautiful late afternoon on the water. We absolutely loved Captain Mike! He was so personable and made our anniversary perfect. We talked, laughed and learned a thing or two. We couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the day! San Diego is stunning from the water. Thank you Pacifica Sailing Charters and Captain Mike! We look forward to another day on the water with you soon. Christina and Jeff read more

CAPTAIN MICK IS THE MAN!!! Not only was he a professional, fantastic captain, but also -- given how welcoming, friendly and downright hilarious he was -- he felt like an old family friend to our group. Our group of 10 or so girls went on the sunset ~booze cruise~ and I know I speak for all of us when I say that anytime we're back in San Diego we'd LOVE to go again. Thanks again, Mick! What's a pirates favorite letter???? If you're still shallow enough to believe it's "argh" then Capitan Mick can definitely expand your horizons! We took a two hour cruise on mission bay, out past ballast point, and I can undeniably say that due to the excellent piloting, conversation, and local insight it was a cruise to remember! A cruise like this will only leave you in awe of sailing's elegance and looking for your next lesson! 12/10 cannot recommend enough!! read more

My husband & I chartered a sailboat for a couple of hours with Captain Mick, and we had an absolute blast! Mick was so knowledgeable and fun to talk to as well. Four of us had a great Memorial day charter! Like many others we had snatched up the Groupon, which I advise scoping out for a sweet discount. Parking was super easy and we found our stalwart captain, Mick at the designated meeting spot, right on time. There's a small deli nearby where you can grab some supplies and use an ATM. Captain Mick had us set off in no time, and we could tell he has loads of experience and local knowledge. Our sailboat, the 'Masquerade' had taken pole in a race the day prior, and bolstered my respect for the boat and captain. An hour out and an hour back went by quick, as did a few cans of BYOB. I learned about the San Diego bay, nautical history and the story behind Ballast Point. We saw a good number of seals, which the Navy was working with this day. Every part of the trip felt safe and in control, and we were shown life preserver location and radio operation. Along with the head. Regarding another reviewer and PSC asking for reviews, we were also asked to leave a positive one; "..if we enjoyed our tour." which we certainly did. Reviews helps smaller companies a lot, and if I didn't fully enjoy my trip, I'd note it here. read more

Ahoy! Mick sets the bar high. From the second I booked this charter to boarding his fabulous sailboat, our trip was well planned, easy, and full of adventure. Mick gives you all of the direction you need to find him and find your ship. When we arrived he was so excited to see us! Greeting us with a warm smile on Father's Day, Mick helped us onto his boat. Ladies, leave your wedges and your heels at home for this tour! Boat shoes only, you'll thank me later! Stepping on his boat immediately gave us the feeling of "I am on vacation for real now!" As Mick prepared the sails we embarked onto the San Diego big bay. After giving us a detailed overview of the safety precautions, he then offered us snacks, soft beverages and even beer he had left over! Score!!! As these were not included. He made sure we knew where life preservers were and how to use the radio in case of emergency. We felt incredibly safe through out our ride today. We set sail, the waves were crashing, the sun was shining and Mick began sharing stories about the history of San Diego and his experiences at sea. Some of his sailing stories had me at the edge of my seat. He has truly seen it all, ask him about the last time he saw a great white! First he brought us to Ballast point which was beautiful. Rich with knowledge of the site, Mick shared endless stories about this landmark and other interesting things he has seen during his time in the open sea. Next he got us SO CLOSE to the government sealed area where there was a submarine docked. It was majestic! There was nothing holding him back from getting us close enough to snap a few photos. On our way back he brought us by some wild life where we saw pelicans, sea lions, and other species of birds! This was a fun way to end our tour. Mick's sailboat is large, beautiful, and intimate. He will make you feel welcome and at home. We were on a private tour and got so much more value then what we paid on Groupon. We will absolutely be booking a tour with Mick again. Thanks for the laughs, conversation and the tour! read more

We had such a fun day with Pacifica Sailing Charters and captain Jason! It was the perfect bachelorette afternoon with my favorite friends! It was a beautiful tour of the San Diego bay while we had drinks, listened to music, and enjoyed the power yacht. I thought it was the perfect amount of time. First of all I wouldn't trust the 5 star reviews, they emailed me after my sail asking for a 5 star review in exchange for a potential free boat ride. I wouldn't use this company again even if it was free. We were in San Diego for the weekend celebrating our anniversary and I wanted to take my husband on a boat ride, found this company and went to book the sail. Upon check out there was a spot for a promo code, I googled to see if any existed and found there was a groupon for half the price of what I was planning on booking which I thought was a great deal. We redeemed the cruise on 8.28 and it was an all around really bad and uncomfortable experience. When the captain Mick met us at the dock, the first thing out of his mouth was that the company sells these cruises for next to nothing and doesn't pay him and he can only do this if we tip and we should know the retail value of this cruise is $480 and he was expecting 4 people and that's unfortunate because that's the amount we have to burden. We literally had not even opened the gate to walk onto the dock that leads to the boat before he badgered us with this. He even said "I guess I can still take you guys but just wanted you to know" I honestly didn't want to get on the boat at that point - he had set such an uncomfortable tone. The sail then proceeded to be completely awkward and silent (not to mention there was no water or snacks provided as stated). You could tell he didn't want to be there, he just picked a point out in the water, sailed there and turned around. I want to be very clear that this had nothing to do with money. I was more than willing to buy the private 2 person 2.5 hour cruise for $280 that Pacifica offers but randomly found the groupon instead. This was not a $480 cruise for 4-6 people as advertised on their website. The company's confirmation email ahead of time clearly stated it was retailed at $250. I just am so disappointed that we had such a terrible time. I booked this trip as a special part of our weekend didn't enjoy a second of the ride which is the fault of the captain Mick. We ended up tipping him $60 because he made the entire situation so uncomfortable. I wish I gave him zero and never went on this trip. It honestly made our day worse instead of this expected wonderful sail. read more
