There's a section of Best Sellers that current popular books are available for check out. I've checked out some epic reads without having to wait. I like browsing the shelves and seeing staff picks placed on placards next to the book on the shelf. I've read many books that I wouldn't have read otherwise from the recommendations. I've recently started checking audio books and books on Kindle through the Libby app. I love it! I love that they do different events. I've taken my grandkids to family friendly events. Last week I had to check out the current artwork being displayed. I was mesmerized by the Warrior Women Portraits by Danyel Rogers. I received an email that there was an artist reception being put on for her. Many of the subjects of her photographs were in the audience. The reception was nicely done. I hope to make many future events!

So many others have mentioned the books, DVDs, library of things, Kanopy subscription, events and…read moreother elements that make it worthwhile to hold a library card here (the donuts aren't bad, either). But I can think of three reason off of the top of their catalog to keep going here: 1. Flamer by Mike Curato 2. Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out by Susan Kulkin 3. Heartstopper, by Alice Oseman You don't have to travel very far from Brookwood Parkway to find people who want these books taken out of kids' hands or incinerated just because they're unwilling to have conversation with their own children or unable to cope with what those conversations might mean. You don't have to pretend that it's only the burden of far-flung portions of the state to deal with those who'd prefer to ban books than discuss their context or meaning. In the library's backyard, there are folks with a friendly smile on their face and a cup of coffee to sell you who'd have each of these books removed expeditiously for specious reasons while outright slurring the people depicted within the pages. Granted, they call a lot of these same good folks neighbors, clergy, employees, family, and "friends" while taking their labor, payment, and tithes, but I guess letting people reach their own conclusions about their stories is the step they won't take. Well, many thanks to the Hillsboro Public Library for offering these books to anyone willing to read them. A library is often a first step along anyone's journey of self discovery (someone in the comments figured out they wanted to make horror movies, and started that walk here), and offering them the freedom to do so is a foundational portion of a public library's existence. Instead of closing that road, more of the library's neighbors should come along for the trip.

Small and great. Super clean and full of all the amenities you would find at any other large…read morelibrary. What makes it better is that it's part of the Shute Park, that includes a large play structure, the aquatic center, green areas and a parking lot that accommodates about 30 cars. You can spend a whole day with the family here, full of fun and healthy activities. There's a family restroom by the children's area, a large meeting room as well as a few small meeting rooms. Internet is free and desks have electric outlets so you can work here comfortably. You may bring food and drinks in. A computer training room is available, with about 29 computers and a projector. Since it's a small library, the selection of books and movies is limited, but that doesn't stop people from coming to enjoy a quiet, relaxing and entertaining place to read or browse on the Internet.

The MFA program was great, however three years later I am trying to make a start deadline for my…read moredoctorate at another school, and asked the registrar and the MFA program director if someone would send a quick note confirming I graduated because I live below the poverty line and needed that documentation only one week before I was able to order official transcripts. I politely explained I wasn't asking in lieu of the official document, but they wouldn't budge and they the registrar treated me as spam with only a second email. I'd think a school would be more willing to help alumni - It's good if you're not poor.

It's part of the…read moreWashington County library system, so the available catalog is huge, and if they don't have something the librarians can help find a way to get it, such as an inter-library loan. Stop in to get a Washington County library card and help setting up the Libby App which grants you access to e-books, audiobooks, and magazines from the entire Washington County catalog. They also offer tons of programs for kids and adults including story times, tech help, and homework help (by yours truly!).

It's clean, well kept, and organized. The books shelves looked a little light, but this place rocks as a community gathering and study spot. It also has a very nice children's section and lots of plug-in opportunities for keeping one's electronics up and running.

However the idea that a library is supposed to be a quiet place is no longer accurate. I mean the kids section of the Shute Park Library is one thing, I mean kids are supposed to be there and let's face it, kids learn better when they are active. Today's visit was more like a zoo. So today there was a visitor who was having a conversation out loud. This wasn't unusual...the unusual part was that another visitor started to get aggressive verbally with them. This was both disturbing and upsetting (kinda the same thing). I believe a library employee was familiar with this person and was able to de-escalate the situation rather quickly. Then there was a 20 minute situation between two visitors and their door dash/grub hub driver. I didn't even realize you could eat in the library, but i guess that has changed too. Despite these distractions I was able to complete my work, but I wish libraries were quieter. But I am glad they are cooling stations as well.

This library is part of the Washington County Cooperative. And that means you can get books from…read moreANY WA county library here AND return them here too. Which is awesome. It's a small library but full of great books! They have a lot of activities and offer a lot to the community.

Hadn't visited this library before until this month, and now I've been a couple of times in the…read morepast two weeks. Seems geared toward kids -- 75% of the stacks are picture books, early readers, etc. And a good portion of those are bilingual and non-English materials (mostly Spanish). There's also a play area (play kitchen), duplos, bins full of board books, and coloring pages. And, yes, there is a hand sanitizer. The adult section is tucked into one nook -- this is where you'll find fiction, NF, graphic novels, and YA. Like any library there are computers; wasn't too busy on a late Saturday morning. Bonus for easy parking (lot and street) and the park right across the way! We'll probably end up going to the big sibling Brookwood location more often, just for proximity and larger size of its collection, but this branch isn't half bad.
