[My dad worked for him in one of their many satellite offices, my sister and I met Sandy Weill in an elevator, funny story] The Weills' money is quietly invested here in the beautiful Green Music Center at Sonoma State College in a natural landscape filled with field flowers and lush grasses. The campus itself is spread out with plentiful student housing rumored to be pretty posh and spacious. Sonoma State seems to have a focus on liberal arts with a concentration in the arts and STEM. The outdoor pool adjacent to the gym is pretty good but the locker rooms are dated, cramped and dirty and in need of an overhaul. You'll see evidence of Peanuts' Charles Schulz at Sonoma State. I've asked the new parents what made them join us at YES and they reported that "in addition to all the amazing benefits of the school [they] joined because of the principal and the staff. They really are one-of-a-kind. They work with each child one-on-one, which really helped my son who can be a handful at times. My daughter came in reading at grade level and by the time she finished she was reading at college level and reading Charles dickens!!!! She even enjoyed reading, I don't know what the school did but they goodness for them. The school utilizes project-based learning just like new tech hiand they provide one on one coaching to the kids so that each kid reaches their highest potential. What I love most about the school is the parent involvement. We've got to several schools and been a part of many PTAs our last school had almost 500 kids in it and the state threatened to shut down the PTA because we only had three volunteers. The school has like 50% involvement rate! End it isn't a requirement to help out it's just happens to be such a cool environment that people naturally chip in and help out. This is also the only school that I have ever been to where the principal helps out as much as she does. She and Sonia, the office admin are the heart of the school. They know everything that's going on and they are happy to help. The other schools we have been to the secretaries are too busy that don't involve themselves in the schools activities. It really makes a difference that anytime I have a question I can go to the office and they help me find the answer. They are also at every school event, supporting everything that we do. The school is like a family! Even the PTA has called family club. You should check it out! Even if you live in Napa you're able to go to this awesome school with open enrollment.

I just moved to the area and was trying to enroll my 3rd grader into the school and Mrs. Diane was very unhelpful. She had an attitude from the moment I first calles the office. Her line to me was "I don't know what you want me to tell you" ... Doesn't make it very comfortable to feel that way when your trying to place your 7 year old in a new school. I am a front desk receptionist at my job where we deal with injured workers all day. Do you think if they walked in and I was treating them with that kind of respect, that they would ever want to return? No! The first person you come across sets the tone for the entire workplace ... I am sorry but Mrs. Diane has not set a good tone with me on multiple occasions. I understand its the beginning of school and its busy and frustrating but so is life and if you can't handle it then find a new career. Needless to say I enrolled my son in a completely different school because I would much rather that then have to deal with Mrs. Diane each time I need to deal with the school. I would think really hard Mrs. Dana about finding yourself a new candidate for the front desk....

Because the school is fairly small, the teachers are able to give attention to each students needs while maintaining an orderly classroom. The teachers enthusiasm and love for the students is evidenced in and out of the classroom. It is not just about education though. It is also about building the character of the students through godly instruction, consistent modeling of thoughtful behaviors and use of kind words. The administration has worked hard to build the school into the kind of place kids want to attend and that parents are happy to support. The administrative staff is stellar as well! The tuition is competitive and there are not nearly as many "hidden costs" as other area schools. My children have had a wonderful school experience going to Grace Academy!

West County/Analy High School exceeded our expectations. Not only are the teachers outstanding, their athletic department and the staff are dedicated professionals. I was able to attend her classes during the pandemic (spying in the background on zoom classes LOL) and her teachers were so kind, interesting, and helpful during that crises. Lots of wonderful families help out every year and make it a great place for learning and being a part of a community. We moved from the east coast to California and it was quite the adjustment. Each teacher she has been with has taken a personal interest in seeing her success. I have thought about moving for better programs several times but every member of the staff here takes a large amount of pride in their work and you can tell by the way the kids talk about them. Everyone from the kitchen to the teacher's aids are well loved by their students and in their school. They had a pretty cute Spanish Club that she loved and always wanted to go to homework club until she got to 4th grade and had longer school hours. The lunch program is so wonderful and they use fresh produce from the garden the kids keep up! I wish I could pay for lunch online because I am always that parent that gets a notice, in the PO Box I don't check, about how she ate lunch there instead of whatever was in her box. It would be nice if they had more funding or students to be able to add more art, music, sports or other types classes. I have looked into driving a distance to be able to allow my children to participate in programs like orchestra, gymnastics or FFA. That seems to be rare to find in Northern California schools though as well. The 1-3 grades have a nice little after care program going on where they hang out until the big kids get out for those who have older siblings (or just want to play with their friends after school). Not having a bus that picks up at houses is such an issue. Might be the east coaster in me but we were picked up in front of our house or very close to it. If you don't have a school bus program that is good enough to get most of the kids to school then the pick up drop off area could be organized better. The website was just redone. I have to say I really like the emails that they have been sending out. Keeps me more informed. Though I can not see any of the attachments or calendars or photos on the web site. I asked about it and the "tech guy" said he doesn't make it anymore so he can't do anything about it. Told me that you can't see it on your phone, Safari or on internet explorer. Why would you pay someone to make a website that did not work on platforms that people most use? Whatever.. I guess I don't need to know when school is off. I will figure it out when I pull up and there aren't parents parked in the no parking zone. **************************************************************** Something that they cannot help but the parents attending could: The parking is so terrible here and none of the parents seem to want to get on the same page. The principle asks over and over again to not park in the drop off area and I am not sure why they don't understand. It would be so much easier if I could just drive in have her jump in the car and go. Alas, I have to park far away and pull my young baby out of the car to drag him all sleepy eyed to the flagpole while walking by screaming jumping children banging into me clutching my child scared of the children that are not scolded by their parents, too good to park in the parking lot, while they sparkly ask if I need help. Yes.. I need help from you to get your children to respect a stranger's space and understand how it is inappropriate to bounce into random people holding infants. Also.. I need help from you not parking in the drop off area so that I don't have to bring my poor bubby out of the car after he JUST fell asleep. Not something that the school can help. Just annoying to look at other reviews on school review sites and watch the parents bash the principle for having cars towed once. That has not happened since my children have gone here but some times I wish it would!!! They should auction off more of those preferred parking spots.. take my money.. it is so worth it.
