The nice dude let me have my one portion done two ways because I couldn't decide. After finishing up my entire plate, I still wouldn't be able to decide if I'd prefer grilled or crumbed. But now I'd know they are so good, I could go for seconds!

Our food was hot and delicious. My fish was battered, and it was a bit oily but not outrageously so. Could maybe have used a minute on a paper towel, but that would be my only complaint. Lots of outdoor tables with a very casual atmosphere.

A variety of dried chilli's (Birdseye, chipotle) and mushrooms (shiitake, porcini, chanterelle) to name a few. The owner Chris was very helpful and incredibly knowledgable on his products. Custom making an assortment of spices for me to gift to my Dad for his new smoker. Beautifully fragrant Baharat, Jamaican jerk, Manzanillo taco and paella spices and a Mexican espresso rub. Other items for sale included hot sauces, spice jars, pottery and women's and kids aprons which were almost too lovely to risk getting food on. Definitely worth a look. I'll be coming back for some Cajun spice, it smelt delicious.

Have you seen my headline? It says "cheese please." In other words... this place is my mecca, my…read moreheaven, my paradise. Much better than the famous Smelly Cheese Shop in my opinion. Maybe the variety isn't as expansive but it gets the job done. They had two tasting stations set up with about 9-10 different cheeses we could try. I tried about 8 of them and there was only 1 that I wasn't a fan of. The marinated soft cheese in sun dried tomato was heavenly and their brie? Holy cow (pun intended). The goat's cheese was smooth and subtle unlike some overpowering goat varieties. They also have a wide variety of jams, oils and chutneys to try. I tried a few and wanted to purchase two of the oils but at $25 a pop I couldn't justify it. Instead I got a hot and spicy green chilli jam for $18 bucks. My advice? Skip the overcrowded, underwhelming Smelly Cheese Shop and head here for the friendly service, abundant samples and delicious cheese and homemade oils and jams.

One of the coolest shops I've ever been in period…read more Herbie's was one of the stops on a gourmet food tour I got to go on in June of 2010. I could have bought everything in the shop! The place is owned by someone who many people claim to be the spice guru of Sydney, Ian Hemphill (nickname Herbie). He's written a few cookbooks and was quite the authority. The shops website is a great resource for all things spices and I believe you can order online from there as well. And if you get really into herbs and spices, Herbie takes tourists to India for a spice tour from time to time! Although the store is tiny, they have a wide selection and they carry quite a few things you're not likely to find in a regular super market (plus the quality is much better). They sell spice kits to get you started and these kits would be perfect gifts for the beginner cook. They sells mills, trivets and mortar and pestles too! PS. I recently started paying more attention to herbs and spices as a result of Ayurveda and I'm willing to bet Herbies could provide many of the things I take daily to balance my body.

It is clever how they have a leash stand and a water bottle for those dog owners to put their dogs outside with a sign which says "customer barking." It is just extremely clever. When you come into this establishment; feel welcome and buy a few packets of some quality spice and use it in your culinary delights; you will begin to understand why they are the choice for spices in the MasterChef kitchen. Just love the flavours; they are real and authentic, and they make any high quality (yet even a simple dish) taste so delicious and bursting with flavour: we are talking about real, authentic flavour here. Great spices available here to give any cook that much needed leverage and enjoyment, especially when cooking can get somewhat mundane. Needs to be visited and seen to be appreciated and enjoyed. Love those herbs and spices.
