The Pawn Shop is one of the coolest speakeasy experiences ever. From the moment you walk in, it…read morefeels like a real pawn shop - filled with precarious things, creepy decor, and organized chaos. The host was hilarious, friendly, and just the right amount of sassy. To get in, they asked if we had anything to pawn. We were caught completely off guard! So here's your heads-up: bring something small to 'pawn' if you want to fully enjoy the experience. We didn't have reservations, but since there were only two of us, they were able to squeeze us in for an hour, which was plenty of time to enjoy the food and drinks. I was pleasantly surprised to find orange wine on the menu. Coming from Oregon where it's everywhere, I didn't realize it was harder to find in the bay. Now for the food: do not leave without ordering the octopus. It was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked. Easily the standout dish of the night! We also had the salmon roe over eggs, which was fresh and light. The only thing I'd skip next time is the 'charcuterie board'. For the price, it felt underwhelming with just a few slices of bread, cheese, and cured meat. The influencers were right - this place absolutely lives up to the hype. Come for the immersive speakeasy experience, stay for the food, and definitely make a reservation if you can!

How good can a meal possibly be? Can it be so good that you never want it to end? Oh my God,…read moreeverything we ate was that good. We. Were. OBSESSED!!! As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed with applause, like everyone was already our friend. We sat at the big communal tables with other groups, and honestly, we loved that experience. I can't remember the name of the potato dish right now, but I included a photo of it--it was the second best potato dish I've ever had in my life. And that octopus... you just want to reach over and hug it because it's too perfect to eat. It was incredibly tender on the inside, with the lightest, crispiest exterior. And that amazing flavor... ahhh, it was so, so good. We also ordered a steak, but I realized I forgot to take a picture of it. It was delicious too. The only bad thing about this place? The portions eventually come to an end. Guys, you seriously need to invent never-ending portions. The churros were amazing too. Every single dish was unique. You could tell so much thought and effort had gone into creating flavors that were anything but ordinary. Even though we were seated about 30 minutes after our reservation, it honestly didn't bother us one bit. I think I could've waited two hours and still thought it was worth it. How did you do this??? How did you manage to get a review like this out of me? Seriously, well done. We'll definitely be back as soon as possible!

I ran into a bad time with my mortgage company when I had some emergency expenses during March of…read morethis year. I called and let them know what was going on and that I would make a double payment at the beginning of April. Much to my surprise, they told me that this wasn't going to work for them and if I didn't pay them immediately, they were going to foreclose on my house! I was like, "After a month? Are you serious?!" Indeed they were, and I had no idea a mortgage company could foreclose if someone was only ONE MONTH LATE! I didn't have the money to cover it nor anyone to borrow from. So I started thinking what I could pawn to get the money right away. I settled on a collector guitar that I owned and started making calls. No one was willing to loan me much on it, and Maxferd was highly rated and I explained what I had when I called. I had spoken to Michael and he explained that they didn't deal with musical instruments and he gave me a referral to another local shop. I checked with them and a couple of other shops and no one was able to provide the loan that I wanted. I called back Maxferd's and spoke with Michael again. He said he had a couple more referrals if I needed them. I said no, I'm really in a hurry to do this because time is short and the guitar was so valuable that I really didn't even like taking it out of the house! Then I asked him about the jewelry loans and explained a bit about what I had to borrow against and he said I should be good to borrow that much with what I had, but of course, he would have to see the items first before he would know for sure. So I went in the next day and brought everything over. I pawned 5 rings for the 1K loan, including a custom handmade one of a kind ring that had belonged to my mother and had been in my family for 50 years. Michael gave me the lowest rate on that ring so that I could afford to get it back the soonest. He also knew which ring was a keepsake from working for the phone company, another custom one-of-a-kind ring that I had bought from the daughter of a fellow phone company employee. So he gave me the best rate on those 2 rings so that I could afford to get them back first. When my pension check came, I went down there right away to pick both of them up. And I was so relieved to have them back! I had to pick up the other 3 rings much later in the loan, and I would call - a few times - to check on the interest and how long I had left to pick them up. I ended up being able to get them about a week before the loan was due and - I lost the pawn tickets!!! OMG! Most pawn shops really sock it to you if you lose those tickets. I called again to check what the extra charges would be for a lost ticket. They only charge $2 per lost ticket, plus they thoroughly verify ID. So I just picked my last 3 rings up a couple of days ago, and they were just as kind and considerate as always. No one wants to have to borrow money against their most prized possessions, but sometimes life will hit you like that. And if it does, Maxferd is the best place to go. The folks there are the kindest and most considerate that I have ever dealt with at a pawn shop. Highly Recommended!!!

Then I'd go to the SF Gold Buyer in San Francisco, out on West Portal, and I'd get double to triple the price. I was told by this place that it had no value but the silver that amounted to nothing. I drove over to SF Gold Buyers and the bought it. "The figure I mentioned" was the scrap value, which is precisely what your employee told me that your "current rate" is. That "rate" is the lowest amount that a silver coin could possibly be worth, without losing money on it. The other coin buyers I work with pay nearly double that amount, for reasons I mentioned (the fungibility of silver coins). So it sounds to me like there is either a disconnect between your policy and your employee's understanding of it, or that you're just trying to spin this in a positive way. Either way, I wasted my time. I took the coins to Polyak on Monday and was paid about double the scrap value, which is much higher than what you would've paid me. ‍ But I'll give you another star for at least responding.
