The man turned us away saying they only deal with locals. He said you have to understand we have only time for so many. They were not busy it was the middle of the day. I will never forget how helpless we felt trying to find aver clinic. Finally the hillside vet helped us. We needed are renewal of prescription all they had to do was call our vet that prescribed it. The guy was condescending and horrible. I left crying as our dog was suffering. I now live here and after that experience I give them a no thumbs up. I would never set foot in there again... I was actually crying when I turned away and he said so sorry there is nothing I can do... He was a Horrible little man.

The staff and the vet were so wonderful during this, allowing me to be with her almost every step of the way. She referred us to VCA in Victoria where Oncological Surgeon Dr. Seguin said surgery was not an option and offered chemo treatment with Palladia. Medical Oncologist Dr. Bowal carefully monitored Ollie's bloodwork and weight, helping him to stay active, bright, and happy for over a year. When Ollie's time to go came, Dr. Bowal, Techs Eva and Matt, and Manager Sarah were astonishingly kind to Ollie and to us. They are all exceptional. My family and I are grateful to them for their skill and kindness. I should mention that this level of veterinary care is expensive and that it was largely covered by our pet insurance with TruePanion, which I highly recommend to all pet owners.

I was panicked , talked to the vet who was over double price for full examination at my vet office. I showed her the footage I had of my dogs episodes she had been having all morning. in the end she said not to worry it's just notmal for bulldog breed and it's possible it may never happen again , no medication , no tests , no poison med precautions . just a sheet with no advice on it or medications home remedies. I left and as soon as we got home they got so much worse I panicked and called back and said I just left it's so much worse I know this is not normal. THEY SAID IF I WANT TO BRING HER BACK OR RECIEVE ANY ADVICE ON WHAT I CAN DO IT WILL BE A NEW APPOINTMENT AT 250$ I said I literally just left ? was there 10 mins ago ? she said I could try to go to the other animal hospital. this is the worst "emergency " . I didn't get any real answers of what it was , what caused it , what I can do , just sent me on my way and turned me away unless I had another 250$. said I could try calling poison control whixh is 100$ for a phone call. what a nightmare today was I begged them in tears to just please help her I just wanted your help I don't want to lose my dog and they had no empathy . I asked like can I jjsy ask if I should try charcoal or something to help her like she may be poisoned. they said can't give any advice without the new fee. i drove away 10 mins prior literally

McKenzie vet was recommended to me by my Mom, who had been taking her high-needs border collie there for years. As a new client, I brought my 18-year old cat with kidney disease and bad teeth in, and was treated with the utmost respect and care- none of my concerns were dismissed and I found the waiting room to be inviting and excellent for even the most nervous kitties. Dr. Paul Vega could see the writing on the wall, as could I, and his kindness and respect will stay with me for the rest of my life. Despite my cat's obvious signs of decline, he still gave my cat a through examination and found some issues that had not yet been addressed. He sent me home with new medications which worked amazingly for a month or so, and called to check in after a blood pressure follow-up. Unfortunately at that point these last measures met their match in his failing health, and he provided me with further resources over the phone to help me with the hard decision I was facing. Because my cat was in so much discomfort, and McKenzie was booked up on the day his health really took a hit, I ended up having to take him somewhere else to put him down- even so I received a beautiful, heartwarming sympathy card from Dr. Vega and the staff. I would recommend McKenzie to anyone, in a heartbeat. When it comes to pets, I have never felt so heard and cared for by a Vet and a clinic's staff. They're booked up for a reason. Thank you, McKenzie staff! You made a very difficult time much more bearable with your care and support.

BEWARE! The management and care providers at this clinic are unprofessional, dishonest and…read moreopportunistic. I brought my almost 13 year old dog in for vaccinations and during our appointment Dr. Victoria Rudd pointed out his enlarged lymph nodes and attributed them to gingivitis, suggested I brush his teeth, but did not suggest any blood tests or other causes of the enlarged lymph nodes. Dr. Rudd did not even show me where to feel the lymph nodes so that I could monitor them myself. Two months later my dog began showing symptoms of end stage lymphoma, necessitating emergency veterinary care while I was away from home. Two weeks later he was euthanized. I called and complained to Dr. Rudd and asked if it is their normal policy to vaccinate pets who are showing signs of serious illness and they assured me that it is not. However, they had already administered the vaccinations without allowing me to make that decision once the enlarged lymph nodes were noted. I then spoke to their supervisor, Dr. Shergill, and complained again that my dog had been vaccinated despite the enlarged lymph nodes and that had they simply done further testing, the lymphoma could have been confirmed. The vaccinations in all likelihood exacerbated and accelerated my dogs cancer and were unnecessary, given that his lymphoma was already advanced. Therefore, it seems that the choice to vaccinate him was made opportunistically, to bill me over $300. Dr. Shergill said he would refund me for the vaccinations, and agreed that they should not have been administered and I asked him to pay my $1100 emergency vet bill, which never should have been incurred, because if they had done the appropriate testing my dog would have already been treated for lymphoma or euthanized. Dr. Shergill agreed to pay 50% of that bill. While speaking to Dr. Shergill he became quite rude and belligerent over the phone and because of that, I knew that he would likely re-neg on his agreement to pay those costs. After the initial grief period following my dog's euthanasia I called and made an appointment, requesting to speak with Drs. Rudd and Shergill together and even the receptionist was lacking professionalism so given the purpose of my call, I again voiced my displeasure at that. That evening I got an email from the clinic saying they would not see me and I should seek veterinary care elsewhere. I had not yet told them I no longer have a pet. I responded with a request that Dr. Shergill honor his offer to re-imburse me for vaccinations and emergency care and I was refused and told that on closer consideration, they felt they had done nothing wrong. Staff at this clinic will likely counter that I was rude over the phone. If so, please tell me how you would feel if you entrusted the health of your 13 year old pet to people whose diagnosis went from gingivitis to end stage lymphoma in a matter of a few weeks. For our final appointments we went to Breadner Veterinary in Brentwood Bay and had a MUCH better experience, they never left me waiting 40 minutes after our appointment time and never talked over me when I asked questions, as Vic West did and were thorough, caring and professional. For in home euthanasia we used Epiphany Veterinary services and they were prompt, professional and supremely compassionate as I said goodbye to my companion of 13 years.

So much so that I had to stop going in with our fur babies as our family had fallen on some financial difficulties. We knew we needed flea treatment and could afford that but was denied the preferred treatment we had our pets on for years because I denied a check up that I could not afford at the time temporarily. We could afford the flea treatment at the time but when explaining this to her secretary at the time she didn't care, so I asked to speak with Dr. Chalmers herself. I patiently waited while she tended to another client and then her secretary went in and spoke with her. Not sure what was said but Dr. Chalmers sided with the secretary and we were denied flea treatments that I preferred unless we booked a check up for our 3 Tzu's. Fair enough. I went and saw my father who kindly came with me to help me out. The fee for check up, shots and flea treatment was well over $500 which I nearly had heart failure over as I told her prior to the appointment I could not afford much. Long story short I left feeling embarrassed, ashamed, angry and couldn't go back. I never did get my fur babies to a vet again and thankful they lived to be 12 and 14 years trying to treat fleas, and any other ailments myself. Hopefully Dr. Chalmers reads this and learns from it. It's not about the money it's supposed to be about caring for the animals, I was left feeling that she only wanted to treat those clients with money. She's a good Veterinarian but wish she would change the attitude within he clinic.
