What…read morebegan as something fun and new has grown into a really rewarding hobby that I look forward to every week. Over the past year, I've expanded into new dance styles and started focusing on the finer details--like arm styling and hip movement, not just footwork. I've joined the dance team, performed in group showcases, and taken part in coaching lessons with incredible visiting instructors who've given me professional feedback to grow from. When my first instructor, Valerie, moved and transferred to another Arthur Murray studio, I wasn't sure what to expect--but I was left in great hands. Angela, my new main instructor, has been amazing at challenging me and helping me push my limits. I've also taken lessons with Alexia and Nathan, and all three have supported my growth with their unique styles and encouragement. One big milestone this year has been dancing in front of others through demos. It's helped me shake off nerves, have fun with mistakes, and just keep dancing. My confidence has grown immensely--I now step onto the dance floor excited, not anxious. I've even started receiving compliments on my leading and technique, which feels incredibly rewarding. If you're thinking about trying dance, I can't recommend Arthur Murray enough. But here's the key: don't just take a lesson or two--immerse yourself in the full experience. Take lessons weekly, go to group classes, attend the parties. You'll get so much more out of it if you fully embrace the experience.

Ms. Chelsea is the instructor/choreographer and her mother Ms. Lethia runs the office. Ms. Chelsea is an extremely talented dancer and instructor and teaches with kindness and compassion. Through this studio my daughter has performed at numerous venues over the years, including at Universal Studios. This is not a competition studio, it is focused on fundamentals and performing, which I like. I'm very happy with this studio and highly recommend it, but what's most important is that my daughter loves it here, which she absolutely does.

My 5yrs old…read moredaughter went to Summer dance camp and loved it there so much we enrolled her for Ballet, Jazz and Hula for the fall/winter. We also enrolled her 3yrs old sister for Ballet. What sold me on this studio was when I watched Hazel, the owner reminded the children to be respectful of their Team Leaders at Summer dance camp. Ms. Hazel's demeanor is kind, gentle yet firm. You can tell she truly cares about her students and also teaches them good character. The older dancers were also good role models and well mannered. I wanted my girls to be at a place where they can learn to dance in a positive environment and grow with as a family. I can say we've found it here at En Pointe. I also wanted to share my experience with my 3yrs old. For the first 3 or 4 classes, she would cry and would not stay or participate in class without me there. I was thinking about withdrawing her and Hazel understood. She didn't make me feel bad or tried to talk me out of it. Then that next class, my daughter didn't cry and I didn't need to be there. Apparently she found it comforting to dance side by side with Ms. Tiffany. Eventually, Ms. Tiffany would get her back in line with the other dancers but it worked. From then on she went to class and participated and they are practicing for the winter recital now. I love how the instructors connect with each child to build a trusting relationship. Now my daughter gets excited and goes to class even before I tell her to. In summary, I'm giving 5 stars because: 1. Great location 2. Kind, organized Owner always has a smile on her face and very prompt with any emails or texts. 3. Professional and Patient instructors 4. Well mannered older dancers which are good role models for my young children 5. Relax atmosphere for parents and non dancing children in the waiting room 6. Gorgeous studio. After a lifetime of enjoying middle eastern music and admiring bellydancers from afar, I finally…read moregot up the courage to give it a try myself as part of my new years resolutions for 2012. I went to a couple different classes from different teachers in the city, one of which was Asia's Saturday class at City Dance. Although I mostly flailed around that first class, I was really moved by the power of dancing to live music and the grace that the other, more experienced dancers showed. Serendipitously, Asia was starting up her beginning bellydance class at Ocean Yoga in Pacifica on Wednesdays that very week. I have been going to one or both of these classes every week for the past 9 months and couldn't be happier. If I had to describe Asia's teaching style in one word, it would be "well-rounded." For starters, Asia is a literal treasure-trove of knowledge about middle eastern dances. She shows us many different moves and routines from traditional cultural dances and often talks a little bit about the history of them. I enjoy her classes specifically because she provides a firm foundation like this, but then shows us ways to draw from these different traditions to make new routines and styles. Her knowledge and passion extends well beyond just the dancing, though. She has a strong musical background (also her husband is one of the Saturday class drummers) and often talks about how to interpret the music and connect it with the movements and pattern of the dance. She highly encourages us to work with zils--even when we hate it--specifically so that we are more connected to the music. I have ZERO musical background and have learned so much about understanding rhythms and parts of a song from this alone. She also has many hilarious stories from her personal history as a professional dancer. I've seen many people come and go from the class, likely because they are intimidated by the work and commitment it takes to really get good (Ive been doing weekly classes for nine months and im still discovering new muscle groups in my hips and low back). But if you are committed to learning the dance, or even if all you want to do is come out and have fun and flail around to live music and learn a little bit about the art of another culture, then Asia's classes are the place to be.
