Delicious food presented well. Very good service. Interesting (in a good way) environment. I'm vegetarian and they were very accommodating and were knowledgeable about details. WARNING: Food is super spicy even at the #1 spicy level. We were informed after ordering that a #0 spicy level was available. Oh well, we will have to remember for next time! Would be helpful if menu or wait staff would routinely inform guests of the high spice level and of this #0 option. We only knew of the high spicy level of this restaurant by reading reviews prior to arriving, but other customers may not read reviews. Also there seemed to be inconsistency in spicy level among the dishes we ordered. The food is authentic PERIOD. The flavors are similar to what you can get from Thailand street stand, even the spicy level is no joke. What I really like about this restaurant is that they are not spending time and mind on how to decorate the food or restaurant to make it look fancier, but rather, serving the traditional nice dishes. Went here based on review as most authentic Thai restaurant. What a disappointment. Started with a chicken sate which traditionally gets served with vinegar and onion and cucumber and sauce served seperate. Chicken tasted uncooked but it was more the quality of the chicken used. Grilled mainly on one side i am sure it was reheated. The main. Ussaman curry was salt, potatoes not cooked properly and added last minute to the mussaman curry. OVERALL JUST SEND BACK, But the biggest let down is the service. No sense of customer service, claimed the mussaman curry should be salty and just dismissed feedback. Absolutely delicious and authentic Thai food! The Thai cooks did a fantastic job preparing the food and the servers were very friendly. If you have ever been to Thailand you will know right away this food is authentic. Good size portions so you will not leave hungry and the prices are reasonable as well. I would say that this place is a "hidden" gem of Maastricht but based on the amount of TripAdvisor awards they have hanging on the walls, and the fact that they're packed to the brim every time I visit, I can't really say that the hidden part is true. But it is absolutely a gem. In fact I hesitated to write another glowing review for it because it's already getting difficult to reserve a table ;-) I discovered this restaurant when I was brought here by a friend who had recently returned from Thailand. Yep, this is about as authentic as Thai food gets outside of Thailand... and about the best atmosphere I've ever seen in a thai restaurant. This year I have been to Maastricht and the thing that stood out was this Thai restaurant. They have a few tables and are mostly booked to the brim. As we were two we were fitted in. They are a small family and cooking everything themselves. They are proud of their offerings and very elaborate on the explanation of the food and its origin. You could tell that the people eating here (and taking food home) were locals and very few tourists. I think that once you know about this place you don't go anywhere else. (I would do the same if I lived in Maastricht) I cannot remember what I had for main (something with beef) but the Tom Yam with chicken was perfect - still thinking back make my mouth water. Hot? yes, but well worth it - hey it is authentic. I highly recommend going here when visiting. - book first though. BTW they have a 'no tie' policy to ensure atmosphere :o) read more

Beer was good and cold. I was warned that the Tom yum gui was really spicy. It was and nothing else. Very little besides the 5-alarm broth. Pad Thai was totally bland and the worst I've ever had. All the other reviews aren't lying--this place is amazing! One major tip: get a reservation. Twice we went in to eat but they were fully booked and couldn't seat us. I'm so glad we finally called ahead and got our spot reserved because everything we had was delicious and amazingly well spiced. If I could grant another star, I would. This place is absolutely amazing. The curries are all fantastic. I've never had a bad meal here (ate here at least once every 2 weeks). The owner is very personable (when he has time to chat) and the is staff always very accommodating. Anytime we had visitors, Pet Thai was definitely a stop. NOTE: Reservations are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Serious spice. Not for the untrained palate! But authentic and delicious. The noodle dishes are also quite large - a small is in my book, a large. Therefore, if you're sharing, two dishes and a small noodle dishes is plenty of food. Soups are also delicious. I wanted to order the "fermented fish soup", but the server came back, and asked me if I'm sure. When my wife and I are deciding what to eat for dinner it's either mexican food or Thai food. (We're from Los Angeles). Being in Maastricht, we decided to see if their Thai food was any good. We ordered the spring rolls and tom ka gai to start with. The spring rolls were decent, pretty much what you'd expect from any Thai restaurant. The tom ka gai was very good. Much different from what we've had before, and it had this nice slow burn (I like spicy, but my wife can handle it much better). For our main entrées we ordered the panang curry and the cashew chicken. We almost alway order these dishes, and the panang is usually how I judge a Thai place. I have to say that both dishes were very good, and much different from what I've eaten before. I would have given this place a 4 for the food, but the owner was so personable, that the environment alone is worth the visit. P.S.
