There is a specific kind of danger that comes with visiting a neighborhood staple like Rogers…read moreMarket, which is located right there at the corner of Lockwood and Big Bend. It isn't the parking. It isn't the crowds. The danger is that you walk in intending to grab "just a quick thing for dinner" and walk out feeling like a triumphant local hero who just cracked the code to the universe, all for about twelve dollars. The staff here has been operating this corner for decades, absorbing neighborhood secrets and botanical wisdom through osmosis. They are entirely too helpful. You ask a simple question like, "Is this squash friendly?" and suddenly you're receiving a TED Talk on roasting techniques, paired with a warm smile that makes you want to invite them to your family Thanksgiving. You came for a walk-in errand and you will leave feeling deeply, personally seen and championed. If you don't mind standing outside on the sidewalk, browsing colorful bins of goods straight from the earth, and experiencing the warm, community-centered hug of a small business that's been doing it right for decades, then Roger's produce Market which is located at Lockwood and Big Bend is calling.

Roger's Produce is a gem. No, it's not fancy, and it's definitely not in pristine shape either…read more However, if you want to support a family owned business instead of giving overpriced grocery stores your money, this is the place to do it. I feel better going here than Kirkwood Farmer's Market because it's lesser known and the prices are cheaper. Don't get me wrong, I love both, but Roger's is cheaper and sometimes has even better looking vegetables. They have a pretty good selection of pumpkins; most are uniquely shaped/colored. Nice spot!

This place is such a STL Staple. Fresh produce, local food vendors, and people selling their body…read moreoils, fragrances, foods and more. Prices on everything is reasonable. It gets crowded on the weekends. If you try and stagger the time that you go, it may not be as busy. Parking is meter/paid parking, but you may luck up and find free parking. It's a must if you are ever visiting STL or if you simply want to go to the farmers market!! I love going to the Soulard spice shop. It is one of my favourites.I have a few preferred produce stands i love going to for fresh fruits and vegetables. And don't forget about the flower shop.

Review Title: 4 Easy steps to 52 Saturdays of CONTROLLED CHAOS!…read more The MUST-DO thing for all St. Louis'ians and Non-St. Louis'ians. But you gotta do it right! Step 1: Schedule a Saturday off to yourself (yes, the Market's open Wed-Sat, but you get 100% vendorship on Saturdays) Step 2: Set your alarm clock EARLY! The trick is the "when" do you get there? Wait til the later hours of the day.. and every shop will be empty that you went for! I've learned this too many times in my sleep-in days, to get there way too late to find so many of the shops sold out, or the "runts" of the sales left. So figure out Early and then getup before then! Step 3: Get in your car and go shopping!!! (Follow the map of course!) Plain and simple you want fresh produce.. this is where you go. Whether it's veggies,. meats, baked goods, coffee, soaps, sweets, snacks, and even alchy beverages if you so desire! (and you just might as the day goes on) Get there early and load up! (Just warning you, you may have to make a few runs between your shops and your car, considering what you -could- load up on. Now as stated by many, it's a smorgasboard of what you can find, all along the entire market. (but just a word of advice, whatever you buy at the market, please clean and store PROPERLY as soon as you get home, this is a farmer's market and you can lose some fresh produce REALLY QUICK!) And just remember you're going to have to fight your way through the crowds. because EVERYONE and their relative knows to come here. (Picture yourself in a demolition derby with everyone.. cause that's what it's going to feel llike... Controlled Chaos! **See I knew I'd fit the title in here somewhere*) I will admit you there are some vendors that sell the usual "touristy wares" on occasion, such as "gold jewelry", Sports uniforms (Battlehawks, Cardinals, Blues), you know the quick .. touristy stuff. But the real value is the food and the food 'trucks', including BBQ , New Orleans style cuisine, mediterranean.. you know everything you can find at a farmer's market :) STEP 4: And to top off the day. a real daiquiri or bloody mary to seal the deal! And there you have it folks... 4 steps to a Controlled Chaos of a Saturday in the Lou!!

Great place for a variety of fresh produce…read more I got huge, red tomatoes, last Thursday, August 6. My girlfriend got half a watermelon and tomatoes. Also available: cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, peaches, radishes, cauliflower, plums, celery, cantaloupe, green beans, eggplant, garlic, jalapeno peppers. Much, much more. I don't know any place where you can get half a seedless watermelon. But they had a half ready for my girlfriend -- all wrapped up -- and it was beautiful. It comes from Sikeston. The folks are so friendly and personable, as are the patrons. The address is Delmar, but the open-air market is really behind the shops on Delmar along the huge parking lot that spans east from Cicero's for a couple blocks. It's adjacent to Midtown Farmers Market.

Let me just say that I am into honey like "whoa". I like it on pizza (the whole thing... not just…read morethe crust), on peanut butter toast, in tea, with fried chicken, as a dipping sauce for fries, the list could go on-and-on. Thanks to Blood and Sand, I also realized that honey could be an insanely good addition to a cheese pasta dish with a little truffle and toasted walnuts. Stinger honey is a unique experience and awesome departure from the typical store bought kind. My friend, Blake F received a jar for a Christmas gift from his employer, and couldn't figure out when or how he'd use it. Being the friend I am, I offered to take it off his hands. As the jar was nearing it's end #sadface, I knew I had to get in touch with Ms. Joy Stinger (yup, that's her real surname) to get some more. I called to make sure she'd be at the Clayton Farmer's Market on the Saturday that I was going, and she was, so off I went. She is a sweet, sweet lady, who got into bee keeping about 25 years ago, and produces a killer product (no pun intended). The honey I sampled at the market was so unique and flavorful. I can do nothing but rave about it... and rave, I have! If you know me, you've probably heard me at least mention it. I love honey, and this is the best I've tasted. She explained how the time of year, and the flowers blooming really make a difference in the flavors. She had three varieties for me to try, and all were so different. The darkest was a little much for me, but really tasted like fall. The spring (light) honey tasted like the plants in her yard that the bees had pollinated. There was also a creamed honey that was so interesting, I couldn't resist it. I am not sure how to use this yet, but I will find a way and enjoy it thoroughly. I ended up spending over $40, but wouldn't ever regret it. A cool thing to mention is that she loves to re-purpose glass jars for the honey so that she's not wasting. This means that when you take a look at her collection, you're selecting a unique jar as well. Some are big and some are small, but all make it unique and fun. Go visit her at the Clayton Farmer's Market from 8am - noon on Saturday's from late May through September or at her home at the address listed for this business. Also, there are some more interesting facts and places to buy at the link from Feast Magazine. http://www.feaststl.com/this-months-feast/feature-articles/article_17691e10-5592-11e0-9b20-0017a4a78c22.html Happy Honey-ing!
