The shop…read morehas a quaint, peaceful vibe--the kind of place you could sit and relax with a book or catch up with friends without feeling rushed. I ordered a flat white, which was solid--smooth, nicely balanced, no complaints. But then I tasted my friends' drinks... and wow, I definitely missed out. They had variations of coffee and chocolate drinks, and every single one I tried was really, really good. Rich, velvety, and chocolatey without being overly sweet. That touch of chocolate added so much depth without overpowering the coffee. The guy at the counter was incredibly kind and patient with our group and gave genuinely great recommendations. You could tell he knew the menu well and really wanted people to enjoy what they ordered. All around, this place just hits the mark--cozy atmosphere, great drinks, and top-notch service. I'll definitely be back next time, and I'm going straight for the chocolate.

A modicum of caution kept me from doing so and only decreased my enjoyment of the place marginally. Mercado Hidalgo is that bustling market that sells pretty much every sort of (Mexico-adjacent) food one can imagine as well as a wide assortment of other things. It's picturesque, stimulating, and colorful and I'm not sure we have anything equivalent in the US. All the more reason to visit. I walked out with Mexican candy (a safe bet) and a brain full of images of this large place knowing that I'll settle - a bit sadly - for a state-side Shrimp Cocktail now that I'm back at home.
